①You want to go on holiday, but don't have enough money for luxury hotels and expensive trips? Backpacking might be right up your street. 

②Backpacking is a very cheap kind of travel. European and American students and young adults who may not have all that much money often do it. It is called backpacking because, instead of using a suitcase, people put all their things in a large backpack. A backpack sits on your back, and you pack all your clothes inside. 

③The most popular places for backpacking are Southeast Asia and South America. These countries aren't very expensive, and are also very hot for most of the year. India and Australia are also very popular. Last year over 400, 000 backpackers hit Australia. 

④Backpacking, in fact, is much more than a holiday—for young people in Europe, it is seen as a way of learning about the world. Backpackers often travel alone for many months, as this is seen as more of an adventure and challenge. Beyond finding new worlds, backpacking, people say, is all about "finding yourself". 

Have you ever seen or used a saw, or" ju" in Chinese? Do you know who invented it?

The inventor was Lu Ban. He was born in the state of Lu in ancient China more than2,500 years ago. That is where Qufu lies in the east of Jining.

Lu Ban was the greatest carpenter(木匠) in his time. Once the king ordered him and his team to build a palace in a very short time. They would be punished if they missed the deadline(最后期限). They had only axes, or fuzi in Chinese, to cut the trees and prepare the wood for the palace, so work was very slow.

One day Lu Ban rushed up the hill to see how things were going. Suddenly the sharp teeth of a leaf cut his hand. Then a bright idea came into his head. Soon he made a tool with teeth along the side of a long iron bar(条状物). With this tool, work became much faster, and they completed the work before the deadline.

That is how the saw was invented.

Lu Ban invented many other useful tools for carpenters and interesting toys for children. The Wooden Bird, for example, could stay in the air for three days. That's why he is regarded as the God of Carpentry.

Our Food Club held a food f{#blank#}1{#/blank#} last Saturday.  Many club members a{#blank#}2{#/blank#} the fair.  Everyone shared some traditional food they brought from home with each other. 

Miss Wang, our head teacher, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (teach) us how to make delicious s{#blank#}4{#/blank#}.  I tried to cook some biscuits by myself, but it was really difficult.  I couldn't make it w{#blank#}5{#/blank#} my classmates' help.  Miss Wang also showed us some modern cooking machines.  The modern ones are very different from {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (tradition) ones.  The biggest {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (different) is that they can help us cook much easier. 

After cooking, we had a charity food s{#blank#}8{#/blank#}.  We tried to d{#blank#}9{#/blank#} the place with beautiful flowers to attract (吸引) people.  We made a lot of money, and the money will be used to buy books for our town library next month. 

All of us had a f{#blank#}10{#/blank#} time and learnt a lot from it.  I can't wait for the next food fair. 

 In a new study, researchers found a fact. Whether it's sports practice, music lessons or a usual catch- up with friends, when children are doing after- school activities, they may feel happier and healthier than those who always look at a screen.

 What's more, children's happiness improved when they joined in after- school activities, while things were completely ▲ when they spent time on social media (媒体) or playing video games.

 The researchers studied 61,759 school students from Grade Four to Grade Nine. They worked out how many days every week children joined in after- school activities from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Then they compared the number to well- being factors (幸福的因素 ) like satisfaction, sadness and worry.

 Lead researcher Dr. Rosa Virgara said the research showed how some out- of- school activities can improve children's happiness, while others, especially screens, can be bad for their mental(精神上的) and physical health." Screens are a big distraction(分散注意力的事物) for children of all ages. Whether children are playing games, watching TV or using social media, there is something about all screens that hurts their happiness," she said.

 The study also showed that even children who were already happy also benefited (得益于) from joining in after- school activities." This shows that there is a big need to find ways to encourage children of all ages and backgrounds to join in activities that keep them away from TVs, computers and smart phones," Dr. Rosa Virgara said.
