Do you want to become an astronaut? If you want to be one of the few people to experience the thrill of lift-of (发射) and see the Earth from the space and float (漂浮) in a spacecraft (航天器), and then how do you go about it?

First, you must really want to become an astronaut as it takes many years of study and work before you even begin your astronaut training. Most astronauts begin when they are between 27 and 37.

Second, you need to be clever enough to attend a university to study engineering, medicine or one of sciences. Many astronauts also learn to be pilots (航天员) in their country's air force (空军).

Third, astronauts come from many different countries, so they need to speak English. Then they can all talk to one another.

Fourth, you must be healthy as astronaut training can be very tiring.

Lastly, on a spacecraft, astronauts live and work in very small space, so you need to get on well with people.

Are you still interested? If so, maybe you will become one of the men or women that orbit (环绕……运行) the Earth in a spacecraft, walk in space or visit Mars. See you in space!

Kate is both my neighbour and my best friend. I first met her five years ago. 

Kate is tall and slim(苗条的). She has long hair. She has big eyes and a small nose. I like her smiling face best. It makes her look really pretty and kind. Kate is a friendly girl. She always has a smile on her face and looks happy. She likes to help people. She helps me with my homework and she is very patient. When I feel bored or unhappy, I often go to her. She will talk to me and tell me interesting things. 

Kate wants to work with children. She would like to be a teacher when she grows up. I think she will be a great teacher. 

James Cleveland Owens was the son of a farmer and the grandson of black slaves. His family moved to Cleveland when he was 9. There, a school teacher asked the youth his name.

"J. C.," he replied.

She thought he had said "Jesse", and he had a new name.

Owens ran his first race at age 13. After high school, he went to Ohio State University. He had to work part time so as to pay for his education. As a second-year student, in the Big Ten games in 1935, he set even more records than he would in the Olympic Games a year later.

A week before the Big Ten meet, Owens accidentally fell down the stairs. His back hurt so much that he could not exercise all week, and he had to be helped in and out of the car that drove him to the meet. He refused to listen to the suggestions that he give up and said he would try, event by event. He did try, and the results are in the record book.

The stage was set for Owens' victory at the Olympic Games in Berlin the next year, and his success would come to be regarded as not only athletic but also political. Hitler did not congratulate any of the African-American winners.

"It was all right with me," he said years later. "I didn't go to Berlin to shake hands with him, anyway."

Having returned from Berlin, he received no telephone calls from the president of his own country, either. In fact, he was not honored by the United States until 1976, four years before his death.

Owens' Olympic victories made little difference to him. He earned his living by looking after a school playground, and accepted money to race against cars, trucks, motorcycles, and dogs.

"Sure, it bothered me," he said later. "But at least it was an honest living. I had to eat."

In time, however, his gold medals changed his life. "They have kept me alive over the years," he once said. "Time has stood still for me. That golden moment dies hard."

Running a marathon(马拉松) is not easy. To run a marathon you have to run over 42 km! Think about it this way: 42 km is the same as running around a football field(足球场) more than 100 times. It takes most people about four or five hours to finish.

30-year-old Lea Tambellini has run more than five marathons before and doesn't want to stop. Her parents have a strong love for marathons and when she was 22， they helped her train for her first marathon.

Lea ran her first marathon in Cincinnati, Ohio, US. "I worried a lot about the race," she said, "but my mum ran with me. That helped."Running the race was hard, but the hardest part was when she ran past a restaurant and smelled(闻到)hamburgers. "I just wanted to stop," she said,"but my mum kept me running."

To get ready for one of the marathons, Lea ran four to five times a week. On weekdays, she ran 8 or 9 km. But at the weekend she ran 20 km, 25 km and 30 km!

"I like training because it is exciting to work hard for something. And I love running with friends," said Lea.

How would you like to build a time machine? Paper, sticks, glue and string are all you need. Put them together to build a kite. A kite connects you to the past. 

No one knows who flew the first kite. It was probably someone in China or perhaps in Indonesia. Indonesian fishermen hung fishhooks on kites and sent them out to sea to catch fish. About 2, 000 years ago, Chinese farmers flew kites to welcome the New Year and bring good luck to the earth. 

In China, people also used kites during wartime. One Chinese story tells how soldiers put noise makers on kites and flew them at night over the enemy(敌人) camps. The enemies felt afraid by the noise and ran away. 

About 1, 300 years ago, Chinese travellers took kites to Japan. Soon kites filled the sky there. Kites reached Thailand about 700 years ago. During floods (洪水), Thai farmers flew kites over their fields. They hoped the kites would drive away the clouds and stop the rain. Over time, kites flew their way out of Asia. Today people have a passion for kites all over the world. Kite fans meet at festivals in many parts of the world and have great fun. 

Over the years, kites have also helped people to understand the world. In 1749, for example, thermometers (温度计) were tied to kites to measure temperatures. In 1906, cameras hanging from kites took pictures of San Francisco, California after an earthquake. The photos helped people plan what to do. 

Kites also helped inventors find out how to make airplanes. The Wright brothers studied how kites flew, which helped them make the first successful airplane. 

Since the ancient Chinese set their kites into the air, people have loved flying kites. Kites give us ways to celebrate, relax and explore. So fly a kite! Enjoy the sense of wonder that kite flyers have for centuries. 

 The theatre is an amazing place where stories come to life! Actors and {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(女演员) dress up and act out different characters, helping us understand ourselves and others better. It's {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(放松的) for us to leave our school and homework behind. It really makes us {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(忘记) the unhappiness for a moment and work better later.

 The theatre is a window to the past. It's a special place to learn about the {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(社会) and its changes. In the {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(第二十) century, the theatre was getting more and more popular. It was a {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(象征) of hope and changes, because it was {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(对抗) bad things and it showed people that there was always a way to stand up. What's more, the theatre was a place where people could learn about {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(普通的) life stories. It was a mirror to what was happening around us. However, if we close our eyes to the theatre, we may {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(错过) the fun it brings to us.

 So, let's keep the {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(魔术) of the theatre alive and enjoy the stories it tells!
