Long, long ago, a Frenchman traveled to a small Italian town. He was staying with his wife at the best hotel there. One night, he went out for {#blank#}1{#/blank#} walk alone. It was very late and the small street was dark and quiet. Suddenly he felt someone behind him. He turned his head and saw an Italian young man {#blank#}2{#/blank#} quickly walked past him. The man was {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (near) out of sight when the Frenchman suddenly found his watch {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (go). He thought that it must be the Italian who had taken his watch. He decided to get back the watch.

    Soon the Frenchman caught up {#blank#}5{#/blank#} the Italian, but {#blank#}6{#/blank#} of them understood the other's language. The Frenchman frightened the Italian with his fist and {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (point) to the Italian's watch. {#blank#}8{#/blank#} the end, the Italian gave up his watch to the Frenchman.

    As soon as he returned to the hotel, the Frenchman told his wife {#blank#}9{#/blank#} had happened. He was greatly {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (surprise) when his wife pointed to the watch on the table. Then he realized that he had robbed the Italian's watch by mistake.

    There was a man who had four sons. He wanted his sons to learn not to judge things too{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(quick). So he sent them each to go and look at a pear tree that was far{#blank#}2{#/blank#}

    The first son went in the winter, the second in the spring, the{#blank#}3{#/blank#}in the summer, and the youngest son went in the autumn. When they had all{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(go) and came back, he called them together to describe what they{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(see)．

The first son said that the tree was ugly. The second son said no—it was covered with green buds and full of promise.

    No one thought that young Albert Einstein would grow up to change the world. He was so slow in learning to speak that he was considered a bit {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(fool).

    Albert Einstein was never happy in school.     To celebrate the Lantern Festival the Palace Museum organized its first light show in the Forbidden City.

    The complex, home to Chinese emperors for five {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(century), was opened at night for the first time in 94 years. It was lit up with giant red lanterns and projections of ancient paintings. Masterpieces such as Along the River During the Qingming Festival were projected on the roofs, giving visitors a feeling like walking {#blank#}2{#/blank#} time. The design team smartly combined high technology{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(light) with the principles of cultural relic preservation.

    In the past a gentleman would offer his seat {#blank#}1{#/blank#} a lady on a crowded bus.  But now, he will probably look out of the window or hide behind his newspaper, {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(leave) the lady standing {#blank#}3{#/blank#} someone else gets off.  You can't entirely blame men for this change in manners. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(go) are the days when women could be referred to the weak. A whole generation has grown up demanding {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(equal) with men in jobs, in education and in social life.  Hold a door for some women {#blank#}6{#/blank#} you are likely to get {#blank#}7{#/blank#} angry lecture on treating women {#blank#}8{#/blank#} weaklings.  Take a girl out for a meal and she'll probably insist on paying {#blank#}9{#/blank#} share of the bill.  All these, according to some sociologists, will change men's attitude towards women and the conventional active politeness is perhaps slowly being {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(replace) by true consideration for the needs and feeling of women, so that men can see women as equal human beings.
