When parents send their children to school，often they don't know what happens day to day. Parents depend on what their children tell them about they are doing and what they are learning. Generally schools will host parent-teacher meeting at least twice a year. Parent-teacher meetings are short meetings between parents and their children's teacher. Usually they are held when teachers give put a student's grades for the term. The parent-teacher meetings give teachers a chance to let parents know how their child is doing. A teacher will let a parent know the student's advantages and bring to the parent's attention any problems with grades or behavior(行为).The meetings also offer parents the chance to ask questions and see what their child is learning.

    Most children do not go along with their parents to the meetings. This allows both the parent and teacher to talk honestly about the child's progress without making the child feel bad. Usually a teacher will offer advice to the parent on how to support their child's education.

Jerry is a world-famous mountain climber. He climbed many high mountains in the world. Starting in 2015, he and his friends spent two years on an adventure (探险) in South America. In 2018, a famous geography magazine even named him Adventure of the Year.

Although Jerry achieved great success, he didn't feel satisfied. He asked himself, "Is it enough to climb the highest mountains? Am I doing something helpful? How can I change my adventures into something that can help the world?"

Jerry learned that scientists need plants, rocks and water samples (样本) from the places far away to do research. But scientists can't get there themselves because such places are hard to reach—only the bravest adventurers can make it. Jerry thought he could do something to help. He then came up with an idea. He organized a team of top adventurers to collect samples for scientists. By studying the samples, scientists could know more about the earth and find ways to protect it.

Recently Jerry and his adventurer friends have discovered a special plant life of Mount Qomolangma. The samples they brought back have helped scientists study how plants live in extreme (极端的) condition.

For Jerry, this kind of adventure is most satisfying. "Such adventures had made us see life in a different way. Now, being the best climber isn't important for me. What matters is doing something helpful while climbing the mountains. There is still much more we can do," Jerry said to a newspaper.

It's amazing that Zijun Jia, from Henan, went to the university at the age of 14. He became the {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (young) freshman at Beihang University. 

"I didn't know that until I got here, and it feels q{#blank#}2{#/blank#} cool! "Jia said. Jia took the college entrance exam and got a total score of 642. People often think students like him must be t{#blank#}3{#/blank#} smart. But Jia believes his s {#blank#}4{#/blank#} is from curiosity (好奇) and study habits. 

As he went to high school, he found things were getting harder to learn. So he started to make p{#blank#}5{#/blank#} every day to get prepared ahead. Jia would also review what he learned each day before going to bed. If there was s{#blank#}6{#/blank#} he couldn't remember well, he'd take a look at it the next morning. 

"I did not do well {#blank#}7{#/blank#} English in high school, so I printed the vocabulary list and stuck (粘贴) it onto my bed. Every morning when I w{#blank#}8{#/blank#} up, I looked through them, and it is a good way."

When Jia felt stressed, he had a special way to r{#blank#}9{#/blank#}: working on math problems. "I'd find difficult problems to challenge myself, and when I worked them out, I felt really happy. "He told the reporter that he hopes he can keep his curiosity and study habits in university, which makes a big {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (different) to his life. 

When I was a boy, every holiday that I had seemed wonderful. My parents took me by train or by car to a hotel by the 1 . I seem to remember I 2  on the sands with some other children all day. We were strangely 3 . We made houses and gardens, and 4  the tide(潮水) destroy them. When the tide went out, we climbed over the rocks and 5  the fish in the rock pools. 

In those days, the sun seemed to shine always 6  and the water was always warm. Sometimes we 7  the beach and walked in the country, exploring(探索) broken houses, dark woods and climbing trees. There were sweets in one's pockets or good places where one could 8  ice creams. Each day seemed like a lifetime.

That day I went home in Mom's car. When Mom2 at a red light，someone on the side of the road caught my eye. It was a man dressed3 rags（破旧衣服）. He was homeless. That didn't interest me，4 I had seen many people like him before. Those people usually looked unhappy and hopeless. But this man was5 in some way. He was not sitting down with a6 expression. Instead，he had a7 in his hand and was dancing happily to the music. The radio seemed to be the most precious thing he had. "Mom，why does that man have a radio though he's8 ? " I asked
