Oct 16 is World Food Day. So what can you do ( help) hungry people? Now you can play a game and make the world a ( good) place at the same time. It's called Freerice.
My geography teacher in high school told us this game. It's an educational trivia game(益智问答游戏) and it's so special. If you answer a question ( correct), you will raise 10 grains(粒) of rice for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to support its work saving and changing lives worldwide.
I first started playing, it only had English trivia questions. But now it can test you on arts and culture, math, science, languages, and more.
I now like to use it to practice my Chinese and also geography — two favorite subjects of (I). It's also good because it fits all ages and has different difficulty ( level). Besides, you can play by yourself or even make a group with your family, friends or classmates.
According to the Freerice website, since 2010, Freerice has raised more than 214 billion grains of rice for people in need. That is about US $1.41 million. One top donator(捐赠者) is a ( use) named Handsome JFr. He has donated 63,925,020 grains of rice!
Why do many Chinese people refuse to cut their hair during the first month of the lunar year?
This is because people in China believe that getting a haircut during the first lunar month will cause their mothers' brothers to die. Although it's not true, some people still believe it. So, after waiting for a month, people usually can't wait to cut their hair on Dragon Head-raising Day —the second day of the second lunar month. It is common to see people line up outside barbershops(理发店) on the day.
Dragon Head-raising Day is an important traditional Chinese festival. Ancient people believed that after this day, rainfall would increase because the rain-bringing Dragon King would wake up from his winter sleep. So that day is the start of spring and farming.
A well-known saying goes, "On the second day of the second-lunar month, the dragon lifts his head."
Besides cutting their hair, people do other things to celebrate this festival. For example, they eat food with "dragon names". People call noodles the dragon's bear d (龙须). Dumplings are the dragon's ears and spring rolls (春卷) are the dragon's scales(龙鳞).

Last Friday morning, we had a Chinese lesson. Our teacher asked us a question, "Who is the best {#blank#}1{#/blank#} in Chinese history?" Many students said Confucius.

He visited many famous teachers to get {#blank#}3{#/blank#} . When he was thirty, he became a teacher. He taught about 3,000 students, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} Chinese people say he was a great thinker(思想家). And many of his students were great thinkers, {#blank#}5{#/blank#} .
Now people still {#blank#}6{#/blank#} him and love him after so many years. Why? Because his ideas help {#blank#}7{#/blank#} in our everyday life. His most important ideas are to be kind to others.
Confucius said young people should be,{#blank#}8{#/blank#} to the old people. Brothers and sisters should love each other. If someone makes mistakes, we should{#blank#}9{#/blank#} them out. The ideas are always famous {#blank#}10{#/blank#} China. People in many other places welcome them too. They think his ideas make the world a better place. We should learn from the great thinker.
