Why does the Sky Change Colours?

What is the sky? How high is it? What colour is it? What birds can live above it? These questions are difficult to answer, aren't they?

In fact, the sky has no colour. Then why does the sky look blue?

We know that there is air around the world. When planes fly, they need air to lift their wings (机翼). Planes can't fly very high. That's because the air gets thinner when they go higher. The same will happen to us if we go high enough. If we go up about 1,000 kilometres from the earth, we'll find no air there. Some birds can fly into the sky as high as a plane, but they cannot fly or live without air.

Looking up above us, you will see the blue sky with white clouds. It is usually light blue. The colour will be bluer when you see on the top of a high mountain. And you will see fewer clouds in the sky between you and the sun.

Sometimes the sky doesn't look blue. When the sun rises or falls, you will see red, orange, and other colours in the sky. Such are the most beautiful moments of the day.

Who can see the colours of the sky high above the earth? The astronauts! They can see those beautiful colours of the sky from outer space. However, before flying into outer space, they sit in a spaceship high above the earth, and there is no air at all. The sky will be that dark and its colour will be black.

Now you may understand that we see colours because the air scatters (使散射) the sunlight. Light travels through the air. Without air, there would be no light or colours.

In China, there is a fun activity on a baby's 1st birthday. People call it "Zhuazhou". 

On that day, parents usually put a table on the bed. On the table, there are some books, pens, rulers, food, toys and so on. Then parents put the baby at the table and the baby can take anything on it. 

The things may show what the baby may be good at in the future. For example, if a baby takes a book, people will say he or she will be good at writing. If a baby takes a kitchen ware (厨具), people will say he or she will be a good cook. When a baby takes a cake or a toy, people will say he or she will know how to enjoy life more. 

Today, we have a "Zhuazhou" for my cousin. He takes a book from the table. My uncle is very happy and calls him "Wenhao". He puts much hope(希望) on the name.

This is my family. My grandpa's name is Harry Brown, and my grandma's name is Jean Brown. These are my father Jeff and my mother Lily. I have a sister, and her name is Gina Brown. My name is Tom Brown. We're in No.1 Middle School. In my family, I have a cat Mimi and a dog Vivi. Mimi is yellow and white, and Vivi is black and white. They are very lovely, and my family is also very warm（温暖的）.I love my family.

 Everyone should eat healthy food and drinks. Vegetables, fruit, milk, eggs are all healthy. Carrots, eggs and sweet potatoes are {#blank#}1{#/blank#}for our eyes. Milk, cheese and fish are good for our {#blank#}2{#/blank#}. Chicken soup can make us less tired. A lot of vegetables and fruit help us{#blank#}3{#/blank#} healthy. Ice cream, hamburgers and cola are not healthy. Meat is healthy but too much meat can make{#blank#}4{#/blank#} fat and unhealthy. Too much coffee is bad for our {#blank#}5{#/blank#}.

 It is important to have a right {#blank#}6{#/blank#} every day. It is helpful for kids to drink a glass of milk {#blank#}7{#/blank#}bedtime. Now many kids like{#blank#}8{#/blank#} fast food, such as fried chicken and hamburgers. They are popular because it's {#blank#}9{#/blank#}and convenient(方便的). They are delicious but bad. {#blank#}10{#/blank#} children should eat less.

 Remember: eat well stay healthy, stay away from unhealthy food and drink.
