What did people do to communicate in ancient times? Here are some very interesting answers to this question.

Alphorns（阿尔卑斯长号角） were once used to communicate in the mountains in Switzerland. They are very long and they are very heavy, too. So, alphorns are hard work to blow. Then why use them? Well, they make a loud sound which travels much further than the human voice. Herdsmen（牧民） used them to call cows in the distance for milking. At sunset, alphorns were also used to send a message down to villagers that all was well. These days, they're mostly used as musical instruments.

The people of La Gomera, an island in Europe, have their own special way of sending messages from mountain to mountain. They use a whistled（口哨） language called el silbo, which comes from their language Spanish. Whistling can be heard within five kilorneters, which means it can be used across much greater distances than shouting. El silbo can be used for all kinds of messages, including greetings and announcements. El silbo is used a lot less than it used to be, but primary school students in La Gomera have to leave it.

Did you know it 's also possible to send messages without making a noise? This is called visual communication, and it includes the use of flags and even smoke. Long ago, soldiers along the Great Wall of China used smoke as a warning. If they noticed the enemy from their signal（信号） tower, they lit a smoky fire. When soldiers in other towers saw the smoke signal, they lit fires, too. In this way, messages about the enemy's arrival could travel as far as 800 km in just a few hours.

Have you noticed these days the temperature is not so normal？The greenhouse effect（温室效应） is one of the reasons. 

How does it work？

A greenhouse is a building with glass walls. In the daytime，sunlight shines into the greenhouse and warms the plants and air inside. At nighttime，it's colder outside，but the greenhouse stays warm inside. That's because the glass walls of the greenhouse keep the sun's heat inside. 

The greenhouse effect works much the same way on Earth. Greenhouse gases in the air such as CO₂ hold heat like the glass walls of a greenhouse. During the day，the sun shines and Earth's surface warms up in the sunlight. At night，Earth's surface cools，giving heat back into the air. But some of the heat is kept by the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. That s what keeps Earth warm. 

How do humans influence the greenhouse effect？

Human activities are changing Earth's natural greenhouse effect. Burning fuels（燃料） like coal and petrol puts more CO₂ into our atmosphere. Too much of these greenhouse gases can cause Earth's atmosphere to hold more and more heat. 

What brings down the greenhouse effect on Earth？

Plants can help a lot. All plants—from big trees to tiny plants in the ocean—take in CO₂ and give off O₂. 

Live- streaming(直播) has become very popular in China. Viewers( people who watch it) can communicate with hosts by sending them messages, buying them gifts, or tipping( giving them some money). 

 However, some children are spending too much money on live- stream platforms(平台). Earlier this year, a 17- year old boy in Hubei, sent 150, 000 yu an to a host. That was his parents' life money. 

 To stop things like this from happening again, the National Radio and Television Administration introduced a new rule on Nov 23 to better manage(管理) live- streaming services. 

 The rule bans children from giving money or sending gifts to live- stream hosts and performers. It also asks people to register(注册) on live- streaming sites with their real names. 

 Parents welcome this new rule very much. According to China Daily, about one- fifth of live- stream viewers in 2021were children. 

" Online shows and live- streaming have become so popular. I always feel worried that my son might become lost in them. " said a mother of a 15- year- old boy in Beijing. " Stricter rule makes me feel safer. "

In addition, there are some other ways to help manage live- streaming services. For example, live- streaming platforms will put a limit(限制) on how much money people can send to the hosts. When viewers reach the limit, they will not be able to send gifts or give money. If the host asks viewers to send gifts or tips, he or she will be added to blacklist(黑名单). 

The Feyman Technique(费曼学习法) was developed by Nobel Prize-winning physicist(物理学家)Richard Feynman. It's a study method that helps students learn by teaching others. 

The Feyman Technique has been one of the most effective study methods for many years. For one thing, it helps students really understand something instead of just memorizing information. Plus, unlike traditional study methods like re-reading textbooks or reviewing notes, it pushes students to be more actively involved(参与) in the learning process. 

If you want to use the Feynman Technique to study better, follow these steps. To begin with, choose a topic you want to learn, including sub-topics(子主题). If not, you'll end up jumping between topics without developing a deeper understanding of any of them. 

The second step is the heart of the Feynman Technique: explaining the topic simply enough to be understood by a sixth-grade student. This requires you to help the child understand by using the simplest and clearest language. This step helps divide indigestible topics into their most basic parts. 

Next, review your explanation and try to find any area where you felt that you couldn't explain the topic simply. When possible, it can be very helpful to get advice from someone whose understanding is similar to that of a sixth-grader. 

The fourth step is to improve your explanation using the information collected from the third step. Finally, repeat the steps. The Feynman Technique works best with repetition, and that is why going through all the prior(先前的)steps just once is usually not enough to fully understand the topic. 

Once you're confident you've learned the topic, it's time to give yourself-a prize. Perhaps, like me, enjoy a nice cup of coffee.
