When I was in Grade Eight, one thing made me sad. I could never get good grades in my1 exam.

One day, I talked to my mom about that. She asked me to think about the2 . I thought about it seriously. And then I3 what my problem was.

"Mom, the math questions are really4 . So I work them out quickly."

"Oh?" Mom listened carefully.

Hello, I'm Selina. I'm very happy to tell you about my family. I have a good and big family. My mother's name is Catherine and she's 38. She works in a clothes shop. My father's name is Ted. He's 40. He works in an office. He's an office worker. I have a sister and a brother. My sister is Sarah and she is in Grade Nine. My brother Paul is seven. He is a very cute boy. 

There is a white dog in my family. His name is Simon and he is my good friend. We also have a brown cat. Her name is Loli. Brown is my sister's favorite color, so she loves Loli.

Emma was nervous about the ceremony. She was the valedictorian(致告别辞者) for their class, and she was {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(worry) about speaking in front of such a large audience(观众). Emma wanted to practice her speech one more time with Julie.

But {#blank#}2{#/blank#} was Julie? Emma looked everywhere, but she couldn't find her. She called Julie's cell phone and sent her a few text {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (message), but Julie didn't answer. Emma didn't have much time, so she practiced her speech behind the curtains in the hall. Nobody saw her.

" Sorry, I didn't hear my phone," replied Julie.

"I was in the hall, practicing my speech," said Emma.

" Where? I didn't see you there," said Julie.

"I was behind the curtains," Emma said and laughed." That's why you couldn't find me!"

Julie laughed, too." Don't worry. You' ll do {#blank#}7{#/blank#} great job!" They took their seats. Emma sat in the front row. She was still {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (real) nervous. Then, someone handed her a piece{#blank#}9{#/blank#} paper. It was a note from Julie! It said," Good luck! You can do it!" Emma felt better and smiled.

" Sometimes paper is the {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(good) technology!" she thought.

There once lived a bird and her two new- born babies in a forest. One day, there was a big storm. There was thunder lightning and rain and the wind blew down many trees. The tall tree in which the birds lived also came down. A big, heavy branch hit the nest and killed the mother bird. Fortunately for the baby birds, the strong wind blew them away to the other side of the forest. One of them came down near a cave where a gang of robbers(强盗) lived. The other landed outside a wise man's ashrama little distance away.

Days passed and the baby birds became big birds. One day, the king of the country came to the forest to hunt. He saw a deer and rode after it. It ran deep into the forest followed by the king. Soon the king lost his way.

He rode on for a long time till he came to the other side of the forest. Very tired by now, he got off his horse and sat down under a tree that stood near a cave. Suddenly he heard a voice cry out," Ouick! Hurry up! There's someone under the tree. Come and take his jewels and his horse. Hurry or else he'll slip away." The king was amazed. He looked up and saw a big, brown bird on the tree under which he was sitting. He also heard faint noises coming from the cave. He quickly got on to his horse and rode away as fast as he could.

Soon, he came to a clearing which looked like an ashram. It was the wise man's ashram. The king tied his horse to a tree and sat down. Suddenly he heard a gentle voice announce," Welcome, Sir. Please go inside and rest. The host will be back soon. Come and make yourself comfortable." The king looked up and saw a big, brown bird. He was amazed." This one looks like the other bird outside the cave," he said to himself.

Later the wise man came back." Welcome, Sir," he said to the king." Please come inside. You look tired. Rest for a while. Then you can share my food."

The king told the wise man the story of the two birds and how each had behaved so differently though they looked so alike." The forest is full of surprises," he said.

The wise man smiled and said," After all, one is known by the company one keeps.    That bird has always heard the talk of robbers. He talks about robbing people. This one has repeated what he has always heard. He welcomes people to the ashram."

Are you able to hang (悬挂) clothes? Are you able to put a nail (钉子) into the wall? For many people, doing these things is quite easy. But how do people who have trouble using their hands do these things? Well, they can use artificial (人造的) hands to help them out.

In Suzhou, some engineers are busy making a special hand better. The special hand is helpful and people can control it with the electrical signals (电信号) which come from their bodies.

These engineers hope to make it much better for Xu Min, who lost her right forearm in an accident in 1992. The woman wore the hand to take part in the Cybathlon Challenges in February. She finished tasks like hanging clothes, putting a nail into the wall and taking a nail out of the wall.

"These things are common in our daily lives and people want to test if the special hand, which was created by humans, can work just like a real hand," Xu said. Because she won the competition (比赛) in February, she was more confident about entering the October global finals — Cybathlon2024 in Zurich, Switzerland.

Cybathlon is the top event in the area. The event was first held in 2016. It takes place every four years. The competition tries to create a world without difficulty for people like Xu. In October, the competition will draw many teams from across the world.

Xu was a little nervous about competing with other people and companies from her country and other places. However, she and her team wanted to show their new product and how humans and machines could work together. Xu said she couldn't wait to get the hand ready and start the training.

Lily is a little girl at school. She is shy and many students do not know her. But she enjoys playing football. Her friends and classmates always laugh at Lily for her interest in football.  ▲ , and she wants to become a great football player. 

 Every day, after coming back from school, Lily quickly finishes her homework and goes out to practise football. Her mother understands Lily's love for the sport and always encourages her to play football. 

 One day, the school says there will be a football game. Lily wants to have a try. She takes part in the game and her classmates laugh at her once again. Lily does not give up. She tries her best to score goals(进球), one after another. 

 The other students are surprised to see how well Lily plays. Their team did well with her help. They even won the game in the end. With her hard work, Lily proves(证明) herself to others. If you're strong and determined like her, you can make your dream come true one day.
