Whales are known as the largest animals in the ocean. It's a pity that they are in danger. The reason behind this is that some people kill them for their meat and oil. People want to protect these great animals. Every year, they go swimming along with whales in the ocean. People from various corners of the world come to watch. It's known as "The Great Whale Trail (GWT)". It raises money to protect the whales.

You can join in by helping us raise money. You have the chance to swim 10 kilometers in the sea with the large animal. The activity will take place on the 20th of July. The water can be cold, so it's important to wear a wetsuit (潜水衣). After the swim, there will be a party with music and food. You can bring your family and friends to join in the celebrations.

The activity only costs $50. This includes (含有) the swim, the party, and a T-shirt. Please help us to protect these great animals. We all love whales and understand their importance to our world.

Nowadays, more and more people like to travel in their holidays. I have read a report about the1 people spend their holidays. It is reported that in recent years several new holiday habits(习惯) have 2 . Among them, the most3 one is the growth of holiday camps. 

From the report we can see that, in 1990, forty percent of people stayed at home for their holidays. However, now the percentage has 4 to nine percent. More people go out for fun. People enjoy the 5 air, clean water and green hills when they go camping in places far from the city. In 1990, thirty－eight percent of people6 going to the seaside. However, in 20027 twenty seven percent were interested in going there. What great8 !

Why have those changes9 ? I think there are several reasons. First, it's because people can afford to travel. Second, people prefer to live a high-quality and colourful life. Third, their attitudes(态度) to relaxation have 10 changed. Fewer and fewer people want to save much money by living a simple life. 

Nobody likes making mistakes, but the truth is that everyone makes mistakes. It's just a part of life. However, how you treat those mistakes makes a difference in how you learn and whether you repeat the same mistakes. Here's some advice on what you can do, if you are upset about your mistakes. 

Think about your mistakes and learn from them. It helps you to learn to think like a scientist and develop scientific thinking habits. ▲ One of them is to make educated guesses called hypotheses ( 假 说 ) and test those guesses to see if they' re right or wrong. They look at the results of their tests and learn from their mistakes — since hypotheses are often wrong. Then, they change their hypotheses and run new tests on them again. 

Try to keep practicing dealing with your mistakes. Research over the years supports an idea known as the 10, 000-hour rule. It says it takes about 10, 000 hours to become an expert in something. It means that practice is necessary for people to be good at something. Research also shows that the best improvements come from deliberate( 有 意 的 ) practice. It means paying full attention to your mistakes and fixing those problems before moving on. Even though you might not be trying to become an expert right now, you can still use deliberate practice to get good at dealing with your mistakes and grow as a learner. 

Don't feel bad or worry too much next time you make a mistake. See it as a chance to learn and take the time to find out what went wrong. It will help your brain remember the mistake and what you' ve learned from the mistake. These memories will help you not repeat the same mistakes in the future and also help you learn to think like a scientist and learn from your mistakes!

 Oct 16 is World Food Day. So what can you do {#blank#}1{#/blank#} ( help) hungry people? Now you can play a game and make the world a {#blank#}2{#/blank#} ( good) place at the same time. It's called Freerice.

 My geography teacher in high school told us {#blank#}3{#/blank#} this game. It's an educational trivia game(益智问答游戏) and it's so special. If you answer a question {#blank#}4{#/blank#} ( correct), you will raise 10 grains(粒) of rice for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to support its work saving and changing lives worldwide.

{#blank#}5{#/blank#} I first started playing, it only had English trivia questions. But now it can test you on arts and culture, math, science, languages, and more.

I now like to use it to practice my Chinese and also geography — two favorite subjects of {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (I). It's also good because it fits all ages and has different difficulty {#blank#}7{#/blank#} ( level). Besides, you can play by yourself or even make a group with your family, friends or classmates.

 According to the Freerice website, since 2010, Freerice has raised more than 214 billion grains of rice for people in need. That is about US $1.41 million. One top donator(捐赠者) is a {#blank#}8{#/blank#} ( use) named Handsome JFr. He has donated 63,925,020 grains of rice!

Henry is going through a very hard time. His wife just passed away(去世). They always loved and cared about each other, so he feels hopeless and sad about everything in his life. For months, Henry sits in his house, doing nothing.

One of Henry's neighbours, an old woman named Lisa, sees him from her yard one day. She doesn't see him outside in days! Then she asks him to come closer to the fence(篱笆) next to her house.

"Hello, Henry! A nice day, isn't it? Just look at this fence. It is falling apart. You are a strong man. Can you help me fix(修补) this fence?" Lisa asks.

Henry is actually angry inside. He is the one who needs help right now. He thinks the old lady is rude. But she is old and cannot fix the fence herself, so he agrees.

Henry works on the fence for days. When he finishes, she thanks him. Henry smiles for the first time in months.

"What a wonderful job you have done! Could you please paint it for me?" Lisa says to him.

Henry cannot believe she is asking for more help. "Why does she ask for another job? What I need now is rest, not work," he says to himself. Anyway, he agrees again. Every day he works hard painting the fence in the hot sun. As their neighbours pass by, they all tell Henry what a beautiful job he has done. Hearing this, Henry feels quite happy.

Several days later, Henry feels that life is still hopeful. He finally understands that Lisa isn't being rude. She knows that staying busy can help people forget their sorrow. So she keeps asking him for help to make him get busy. He helped her, but she truly saved him.
