Stanley Karras works as a meteorologist (气象学家) in Tampa, Florida. His job is to follow hurricanes (飓风) by plane and provide information about them for scientists.

What do you like most about your job?

I love the travel most. Running after hurricanes has taken me all over the world. It's exciting to end up in different cities and different countries day after day. If you're a meteorologist, you have to love flying. I also love working with top scientists. I have learnt so much from them and we have had a lot of exciting time together.

Do you make any sacrifices (牺牲) to do this job?

Yes, I'm so far away from my family. They all live in the UK. My wife is with me, of course, but her family is also in the UK. So we're pretty cut off from them all over here.

What would you like to do next?

I'd like to join a space programme and be the first meteorologist in space, but I have not come up with an experiment(实验) to do in space yet. There aren't any hurricanes!

What tips would you give to someone wanting to do your job?

Study maths, science and meteorology well. There are many areas in meteorology to study. I have taken the hurricane hunter path, but you could be a weather reporter or study in other areas.

What may come to your mind first when you think of London? Is it the Big Ben or the Tower Bridge? How {#blank#}1{#/blank#} the London Eye? The London Bye has become a place of interest in London {#blank#}2{#/blank#} it was open in 2000. It is a {#blank#}3{#/blank#} of the modern Britain, and it is called London's Eiffel Tower.

At first, it was built to celebrate the new year. So people thought it would only be open during the year 2000, or perhaps just for a few years more. Nobody {#blank#}4{#/blank#} it to be so successful.

Today it is one of the UK's most popular places and is visited {#blank#}5{#/blank#} over 3.5 million people a year. The wheel has 32 boxes and each can carry about 25 people. Visitors can see the whole London from the top.

Back in New York, I am fighting fires as the assistant captain (副队长) of a volunteer fire company.

I still remember my first fire. I was the second volunteer on the scene (现场). The captain was talking with the homeowner, who was surely having one of the worst days of her life. At midnight, she was standing outside in the heavy rain, under an umbrella, barefoot (赤脚的), while her house was in flames (在燃烧中). The other volunteer, who had arrived just before me, was asked to go inside and save the homeowner's dog. The captain then waved (招手) me over. He said, "Bezos, I need you to go upstairs past the fire, and get this woman a pair of shoes." So, not exactly what I was hoping for, but off I went up the stairs, down the hall, past the "real" firefighters, who were pretty much done putting out the fire at this point, into the bedroom to get a pair of shoes.

Now I know what you're thinking, but I'm no hero. (Laughter) I carried the shoes downstairs where I met the other volunteer with the valuable dog. We took our treasures outside to the homeowner, where, not surprisingly, his received much more attention than mine.

A few weeks later, the company received a letter from the homeowner thanking us for saving her home. The act of kindness she noted above all others was that someone had even gotten her a pair of shoes.

Here, I would offer this reminder: don't wait. Don't wait until you make your first million to make a difference in somebody's life. If you have something to give, give it now.

Not every day is going to offer us a chance to save somebody's life, but every day offers us an opportunity to affect (影响) one. So get in the game. Save the shoes.

Last summer, my friends and I noticed how messy our neighborhood park was. We wanted it to be different. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} . We had a great time making the park even better than before, and now the whole neighborhood is able to share and enjoy it again. 

Maybe cleaning up a park isn't your choice, though. No problem! {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. Do you like playing chess, reading or spending time with your pet? You can volunteer to do what you love. For example, you could help at an old people's center, simply by talking or playing games with them to make their days better. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}, you could volunteer to be a homework helper at your school. You're always needed to walk dogs or play with cats. Or you can collect things for homeless people, such as soap and toothbrushes. 

You see, there is something for everyone. Whatever you do as a volunteer, your time will be enjoyed and that always feels good. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}. You can, too!

There is nothing like chocolate. Just thinking about it can make your mouth water. September 13 is the International Chocolate Day, which gives us a good reason to celebrate the world's most popular sweet. 

Chocolate comes from a civilization（文明）called the Maya. They had a special food called cocoa. The word cocoa means" gift from God". About five hundred years ago, the Europeans found the Mayans and used cocoa to make chocolate. 

For centuries, only the rich could enjoy chocolate, and normal people could not get hold of it. All this changed when European companies started to produce chocolate bars in the 19th century. Chocolate comes in different colors and sizes. People often eat white, dark and milk chocolate. The biggest chocolate bar was ever made in Italy in 2011 and weighed almost 6 tons! That's as big as an elephant. 

There are also different shapes of chocolate and people often take them as holiday gifts. Chocolate bunnies（小兔子）and eggs are popular on Easter, chocolate coins are common on Christmas Day, and chocolate hearts are great gifts for Valentine's Day. At certain parties and wedding ceremonies(结婚典礼), chocolate fountains always surprise guests. 

Lots of people say chocolate is bad for your health. Not necessarily so! Scientists now say it is good for people's heart and can make the body release chemicals that actually make us happy and make us feel better. But don't eat too much of it. 

Everyone has problems in their lives. Is there anything you are worried about? What are they? Some people share their experiences. 

Helen: My job is to take care of people's health. I feel satisfied when I see my patients get better. But I'm so busy. I have to get up very early and go back home late, feeling tired. I can't have a good rest at night. 

Mary: I'm a volunteer teacher in a village. It is exciting to work with kids. However, living far from my parents makes me miss them very much.
