Once an old man who had four lazy sons fell sick and was counting his last days in bed. He was very worried about his sons' future because they always believed in luck {#blank#}1{#/blank#}of hard work.

    The old man decided to play a trick{#blank#}2{#/blank#} he died to make his sons realize the importance of work. He told them that he would leave them a treasure box {#blank#}3{#/blank#} gold coins and wanted them to share the treasure.

    The young men asked where his father had placed the treasure. The old man replied," I can't exactly remember{#blank#}4{#/blank#}place. However, the treasure is buried in our land."

    After a few days, the old man died. The sons decided to{#blank#}5{#/blank#}the land to find the treasure box. They worked very hard, but they couldn't find the box. They dug even{#blank#}6{#/blank#}, but they still got nothing.

    Later, one of their neighbors {#blank#}7{#/blank#} by and saw the loose (松的) soil. He suggested that the sons should turn it into a farm. Soon, good fruit and vegetables grew out of the land. The four sons sold them at a good{#blank#}8{#/blank#} and made lots of money.

    Then they realized that the {#blank#}9{#/blank#} box their father mentioned was hard work in fact. The father successfully played a trick to {#blank#}10{#/blank#} his sons how important it was to work hard. What a clever father!

Isaac Newton was a very great English scientist. He made great success in many areas such as physics and Maths. Newton was born on 4th January, 1643 in a small town named Woolsthorpe. Newton's father died three months before Newton was born. When Newton was older, his mother wanted him to learn to take care of the family farm. But Newton was more interested in reading and thinking. Newton was very lucky. His uncle persuaded (说服) his mother to let him finish middle school.

In 1661, Newton went to study in Cambridge University. Newton read lots of books by famous scientists and took many notes. Newton was very crazy about science. When he was working on an interesting problem, he often forgot about eating or sleeping. He worked so hard. In less than a year, he began to have his own ideas. In 1665, Newton finished his study in Cambridge University. But he was still at the university, giving classes in most years until 1696. In the university, Newton was at the height of his creative power (才能). Let's take what Edison said about Newton as an end，"All his life he worked on science."

Twelve teachers and students from the University of Verona in Italy recently went to Liangnong town, Yuyao city, Zhejiang province, to do research and learn about traditional Chinese culture.

The group went to Liangnong's Intangible Cultural Heritage(非物质文化遗产) Exhibition Hall, where they learned about Yuyao's unique cultural heritage and the local ways of life and traditions.

With the help of a skilled baker, they also learned how to make Liangnong Rice Cake, a traditional local food. People in the area eat this cake during special events like the Lunar New Year, weddings, housewarming parties, and birthdays. It'a symbol of the hope for a good life.

" First, we pour the mixed rice flour into the rice cake mold(模具). Then use tools to make square holes. Next, put sweet fillings into the holes," The skilled baker carefully showed the steps of making Liangnong Rice Cake while telling the Italian teachers and students about its history and culture. The finishing touch, which the students found most interesting, was to print Chinese characters on the cake with a special tool.

"Today's experience was fantastic. We learned how to make Liangnong Rice Cake, and I really enjoyed it. This is my first time in China, and I hope to come to China more in the future," said Giordano Giada, an Italian student.

Barbara Bisetto, the head of the Chinese Department at the University of Verona and an expert on Chinese culture, said in fluent Chinese, " China has a long history and a rich and beautiful culture. This time, I also learned about Chinese manners, customs, and traditions. So for me, as someone who studies Chinese culture, it is a very special experience."

This summer camp is a project between Ningbo University and the University of Verona. By inviting Italian students to visit Liangnong, the university wants to present local culture to a bigger world and support rural revitalization(乡村振兴) with cultural strength.

Today is Saturday. It's half past seven in the evening. Rick is in the living room reading a book. He is reading the story of a young man called Yang Zhiyang from Baoji, Shaanxi. 

Yang Zhiyang is 23 years old. His mum has ALS(渐冻症) and she has difficulty speaking and walking. Yang's father has to work to make money for the family. So Yang doesn't go to work. He has to take care of(照顾) his mum at home. 

To take good care of his mother, Yang looks at her eyes very often. When his mother wants to sleep, she looks at her room. Then, Yang takes her to the bedroom. When she wants to drink water, she looks at the water cup on the table. Then, Yang gets water for her. It's important for people with ALS to do exercise. Yang always takes his mother's hands and does exercise with her. To make it fun, Yang often sings to her. 

Taking care of the mother with ALS is not easy, but Yang says, "She is my mother. I'm just doing what a son needs to do. I want to do my best to help her live happily. "

Nadia Comaneci, a famous gymnast(体操运动员), was born in Romania in 1961. 

When she was doing cartwheels(侧手翻) on the playground at the age of 7, a PE teacher saw her. He told her family that she was very good and advised Nadia to train in the capital of Romania. Although it was a long way from her home, Nadia went because she loved gymnastics. 

After that, she trained hard and took part in lots of competitions. Later, she was named as one of the Athletes of the 20th Century. 

In 1976, Nadia went to the Olympics in Canada. She was so fantastic in the competition that everyone waited for the score, a high score. But the scoreboard showed 1. 00!

Everyone was surprised. There wasn't a sound for a moment. Then a voice came, " Ladies and gentlemen, Nadia Comaneci. . . 10!"

The audience(观众) cheered very loudly. So what happened? Well, when the scoreboard was built, no one thought a score of 10. 00 was possible. The decimal point(小数点) was in the wrong place! In fact, the scoreboard only had three digits(数位) to show scores, such as 9. 50 or 9. 85 at that time. 

In the 1976 Summer Olympics, Nadia Comaneci scored a perfect 10, which was thought impossible before. From then on, she was looked as a hero. In 1984, she got retired(退休的).
