Last Saturday evening, my old car broke down on my way home. It was 25 kilometres away from my 1 , so I wanted to take a bus. 

I went to a bus stop and then a bus came. But it was not the 2 bus for my town. The bus driver was 3 and she told me that I needed to take the No. 5 bus. I 4 there for about thirty minutes, but no bus came. At last a 5 came to me and a woman walked out of it. I got a surprise. She was 6 the bus driver.

When I was eight years old，my family moved from Edinburgh to London because my father started a new job here. The new place was far away from my grandmother，so we sometimes spent a couple of hours driving to Edinburgh to visit her when we missed her terribly. Her house was hundreds of miles away but the trip was never boring. 

Grandma never had much. She didn't have expensive things，or live in a nice house. But I could feel with my heart that she loved us deeply，especially when my world was turned upside down two years later. Grandma knew that my mother and father divorced and I lived with my father. I would actually like to live with my mother. 

I still remember those little things. Grandma allowed me to sit on the top of her kitchen table，getting me to dip（蘸）my fingers in the sugar bowl or drink from her coffee cup. Grandma had a beautiful bottle high on a shelf. One day after her death，I received a box. To my surprise，I found the bottle inside. She remembered once I had asked her for it. 

Grandma saved her pennies in a glass jar（罐）. She could have used those pennies herself but she kept them for my brother Tommie and me. And I was always excited to divide the pennies between my brother and me. "One for you，one for me. " I would repeat until the jar was empty. I don't remember how much we got on our visits，but I know that's how she loved us and cared about us when we were far away from her. So if I am lucky enough to find a penny lying on the ground one day. I am sure it is just the one from Grandma in heaven（天堂）. 

Those childhood memories have never gone away from me. Instead，they still give me great feelings through the years. A Grandma's love stays with a grandchild as long as he needs it. You know，love is just like that. 

Xian Xinghai was a very famous musician in China. He wrote one of 1 pieces of music of the 20th century. In his short life, he wrote nearly 300 songs and 2 opera. 

Xian was born in Panyu, Guangdong, China in 1905. His father died before he was born, Xian moved from place 3 place with his mother. He began learning 4 the violin when he was 20 years old. In the beginning, his violin was very old and cheap. So he 5 play it well. His friends laughed at him. Xian did not stop 6 and soon showed his talent. In 1934, he studied in a special music school in Paris. He was one of the first Chinese students to go there. Before he left, Xian became the school's best student and won several prizes for his talents. 

In 1935, he 7 to China and helped fight against the Japanese army. 8 , he came to Yan'an to teach music at a college. 9 there were no pianos in Yan'an at that time, Xian still wrote some of his most important music there. 

In May 1940, the Chinese Communist Party sent Xian to the Soviet Union to write music for movies. In the Soviet Union, life was very hard. Xian got sick and died on 30th October, 1945, aged only 40. However, he gave 10 the wonderful music. And we will remember Xian. 

Last spring, I paid a visit to Italy. It is really a beautiful country 1 a long history. There were so many interesting things 2 and do there. People there were kind and friendly, too. But I was a bit worried at first 3 I could only speak English.

 On the first day of my trip, I went to Rome, 4 capital of Italy. When I was walking in the street, I felt hungry and went into a restaurant. A waiter came to me and said in Italian,"5 can I get for you, sir?"I 6 my mouth, put my fingers into it, took them out again and moved my lips(嘴唇). In this way, I meant to say," bring 7 something to eat." The waiter went away and brought back a lot of drink. First tea, then coffee, then milk, 8 no food. I was sorry that I 9 tell the waiter I needed food. I was ready to leave the restaurant when 10 man came in and put his hands on his stomach. And it was good enough for the waiter. In a few minutes, the waiter brought him bread and meat. Finally I had my meal in the same way.

One day an elephant walked into a forest to look for friends.

Nadia Comaneci, a famous gymnast(体操运动员), was born in Romania in 1961. 

When she was doing cartwheels(侧手翻) on the playground at the age of 7, a PE teacher saw her. He told her family that she was very good and advised Nadia to train in the capital of Romania. Although it was a long way from her home, Nadia went because she loved gymnastics. 

After that, she trained hard and took part in lots of competitions. Later, she was named as one of the Athletes of the 20th Century. 

In 1976, Nadia went to the Olympics in Canada. She was so fantastic in the competition that everyone waited for the score, a high score. But the scoreboard showed 1. 00!

Everyone was surprised. There wasn't a sound for a moment. Then a voice came, " Ladies and gentlemen, Nadia Comaneci. . . 10!"

The audience(观众) cheered very loudly. So what happened? Well, when the scoreboard was built, no one thought a score of 10. 00 was possible. The decimal point(小数点) was in the wrong place! In fact, the scoreboard only had three digits(数位) to show scores, such as 9. 50 or 9. 85 at that time. 

In the 1976 Summer Olympics, Nadia Comaneci scored a perfect 10, which was thought impossible before. From then on, she was looked as a hero. In 1984, she got retired(退休的).
