Do you know how words have an influence on others? Amy Beth Gardner chose a 1 way to teach her daughter Breonna about this. She wrote on Facebook,"My daughter will 2 high school tomorrow. We've prepared new uniforms, a new schoolbag and some other things for her. But tonight, just before bed, we did another pre-high school task that is far more 3 than others."

Then Amy Beth took a tube of toothpaste(牙膏) and asked her daughter to 4 the toothpaste onto a plate. After she did so, Amy Beth asked her to put the toothpaste 5 into the tube. It was really a crazy request, so Breonna 6 , "I can't! It won't be like what it was before."

Amy Beth gave an important 7 to her child, "You will remember this toothpaste for the rest of your life. Your words have the power of life 8 death. As you go into the high school, you are going to see 9 strength (力量) your words carry. You are going to have the chance to use your words to hurt, wound and put down others. You are also going to have the chance to use your words to help, encourage and 10 others."

Amy Beth knows that 11 fails sometimes, but it is her duty to teach her daughter about the power of one's words. Just like this toothpaste, once the words leave your 12 , you can't take them back.

My name is Jack. I am fourteen years old. I have many friends. Most of them are as old as me. Some are older than me and some are younger. 

My best friend is David. He is also fourteen and he comes from the countryside. We live in the same neighborhood now. We are in the same class. He sits behind me. David is good at math and he often helps me with my math homework. I often help him with his English homework. He is poor in English, because he never studied English before. 

David is 1. 7 meters tall. He is taller than me. I am only 1. 6 meters tall. We both have brown hair, but David's hair is longer than mine. 

David is a little thin, but I am heavy. I don't like sports, so I don't get much exercise. But David likes sports very much. He often asks me to play sports with him. 

After school, David and I play soccer for half an hour in our neighborhood. Thanks to(多亏) David, I am healthier than before.

The English Language Assistants program（英语语言助理课程）is very famous in the UK. Every year，it sends many language teachers to support the teaching of English in other places around the world. I took part in the program last year and spent six months in a small town called Privas（普里瓦）in France. 

The small town lies in the southeast of France. It is a beautiful place. And it's famous for its chestnuts（栗子）. Lots of chestnuts are produced there every year. There is even a festival about chestnuts. People from Privas have a strong sense of belonging. On weekends，young people who live a busy life in nearby cities often come back to Privas to get together with their family. 

The quiet environment and comfortable lifestyle（生活方式）made me fall in love with Privas. The school where I taught was a great place to learn about French culture. I learned some special French customs there. 

People greet each other by kissing on the cheek（脸颊）. The number of kisses depends on where you are in France. On my first night in Privas，I stayed with a host family. They told me that in most places in France，people give two. In the north of France，they give four kisses. And in Privas，the custom is to give three. This made me sometimes wonder which cheek to kiss first. Since I had long hair，when a person was kissing me，some of my hair would end up in his or her mouth. That was really funny and awkward（令人尴尬的）. But people there were pleased that I was getting used to the local culture. 

Six months of staying there made me feel like part of the town. It was an unforgettable experience and I can't wait to return there some day.
