Mrs. Baylor has a pet parrot. The bird is smart and it's learning (学习) to talk these days.

This morning, Mrs Baylor goes shopping and leaves (留) the parrot at home. There is something wrong with her sink (水槽) and Mrs. Baylor forgets a plumber(水管工) will come to fix it.

KNOCK(敲门声) KNOCK "Who is it? " the parrot calls.

"It's the plumber." the man says. He waits, but no one comes to the door. 

KNOCK KNOCK "Who is it? " the parrot calls.

"It's the plumber!" the man says. But still, no one opens the door.

KNOCK KNOCK "Who is it? " the parrot calls.

The man lets out a shout (吼叫), "IT'S THE PLUMBER! " This time, he shouts so loud that he loses his breath (呼吸)and falls down (倒下).

Just then, Mrs. Baylor comes back and she just finds a man on the ground.

"Oh, my dear!" she says, "Who is this?" And the parrot shouts, "IT'S THE PLUMBER!" 

Alice has a restaurant next to her home. Its name is Alice's Restaurant. It opens（营业）from 10:00 in the morning to 8:00 in the evening. The restaurant is not big, but it's clean（干净的）

David and Mike are cooks in the restaurant. They cook well. David can make（做）delicious Chinese food like jiaozi and fish. Mike makes great hamburgers and sandwiches. A lot of people come to have lunch in the restaurant. So David and Mike are usually busy from 11:00 a. m. to 2:00 p. m. 

Alice is kind to people in the restaurant. Kids like her very much. And the food is very cheap（便宜的）and nice, so many people like the restaurant. 

My dad bought me a new Jeep when I was 17，but the real gift was what he taught me about life through this car. very month, on the first day, he asked me to pay him $150 if I wanted to continue driving my Jeep. If I didn't pay， I couldn't drive my car（or "his car"，as he often reminded me（所有权））.My dad was（and still is）a successful businessman，＄150 was more than I usually made every month.I had to work harder. Although I was unhappy about my father's request，I always made sure to give him ＄150 on the first day of each month.

The day I graduated from high school，my dad pulled me into his office at our house for a talk.

"Kevin，"he gave me a white box and said，"here is your graduation present. To be honest，this is actually a present you gave yourself."I opened the box carefully，and almost started crying when I realized he just gave me ＄3，600! It was 24 car payments that he had saved for the last two years.Every payment I gave him went straight into this box.By asking me to pay him every month，how to use my money and how to be responsible.My dad is and will forever be the best man I have ever known.

Four years later he gave me the title to the Jeep，as my college graduation gift.

I love reading. I spend over seven hours a week reading different kinds of books.{#blank#}1{#/blank#}I read a lot at the weekend. 

I am interested in story books. I enjoy reading the books of Robert Louis Stevenson because I find them really interesting. For example, Treasure Island tells the story of a young boy who sailed (航行) the sea to look for the hidden treasure.{#blank#}2{#/blank#} His story gave me a lot of confidence. After reading the book, I am not as shy as before and I am willing to try new things. I also want to travel and have exciting experiences in the future. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Maybe I can become a writer when I grow up. 

I get my books from Sunshine Library- it is just on the other side of my home. My friends give me lots of advice on books. We often meet together and talk about what to read. 

Reading is always a wonderful time. Good books are good friends. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}

They also open up a whole new world to me. 

 There are 35 students in our class. One of them is {#blank#}1{#/blank#} English boy. His name is John. He always {#blank#}2{#/blank#}( wear)a watch. He likes Chinese. But he can't speak Chinese. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}( good). He is not good {#blank#}4{#/blank#} it. Who are the two. girls? They are twins. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}( they) names are Mary and Jane. They are from {#blank#}6{#/blank#}( American). They always have the same bags, rulers, erasers and pencil {#blank#}7{#/blank#}; box). They are both my good friends. The other boys and girls are all{#blank#}8{#/blank#}、 China). Oh! {#blank#}9{#/blank#} are Li Hua and Tony doing? They are reading books in the school library. We like them and they like {#blank#}10{#/blank#}( we) too. We play games together and we help each other. How happy we are!

Jenny used to get angry in the face of problems and didn't know what to do. One day, she asked her father for 1 . Her father took her to the 2 and got three bowls. Then he poured water into each bowl and put them on the stove (炉子). When the water started to boil (沸腾), he put a 3 in the first bowl, an egg in the second and two spoons of tea leaves in the third.

When the time was up, Jenny's father put the potato and the egg on a plate and poured the tea into a cup. He asked Jenny, "Have you learned anything from them?"

Her father smiled, "The potato was hard before it was boiled, now it has turned soft. The egg would 7 easily before, but now it is hard. And the tea leaves are unusual. They change (改变) the water and created something 8 ." 

Jenny then understood what her father wanted to tell her. Each thing responded (应对) 9 though they faced the same situation. She 10 face challenges like the tea leaves. Be strong, but not be weak!
