I know how hard it is to make friends in a new school. I once joined the football team and the music club in my school of Toronto. I was very popular at that time and made a lot of friends. It made me very happy and my school life was very great.

Everything became different when I was 16 years old, because my parents decided to move to    Florida. Who can quickly adapt to (适应) a completely strange environment? So changing to a new   school was not easy for me. At the beginning, days in the new school were much more different than I thought. The class schedule (时间表) was different, and the teachers and students were strange and fresh to me. Some kids tried to be nice to me, but I was afraid to have a talk with them.

After staying in the new school for a few weeks, I realized that no one tried to communicate with me anymore, so I began to feel lonely. Two months later we had a course that required teamwork. Then, all the students came to study and even tried to help each other. I realized that they were hard-working and friendly just like me. I began to make friends with them. Several years later, we still keep in touch with each other and they have become a great treasure to me.

Sometimes, if we can't change the environment around us, change ourselves in time. And try to get used to the life in different places.

Of all the Chinese 24 solar terms, Clear and Bright (清明) is the only one whose first day is also a traditional Chinese festival, the Qingming Festival. The words "clear" and "bright" describe the weather during this period. Temperatures begin to rise and rainfall increases, making it an important time for growing crops in the spring. As is known, it is a time to worship ancestors (祭拜祖先). However, here are some things you may not know about Clear and Bright. 

Spring Outings

Not only is it a period to honor the dead, but it is also time for people to go out and enjoy nature. As trees turn green, flowers come out, and the sun shines brightly, everything returns to life. It is a fine time to enjoy the beauty of nature. 

Flying Kites

Flying kites is an activity loved by many Chinese during Tomb-Sweeping Day. Kites are not only flown during the day time but also in the evening. Little lanterns are tied to the kites. And when the kites are flying in the sky, the lanterns look like twinkling stars at night. What makes flying kites during this day special is that people cut the string while the kite is in the sky to let it fly freely. It is said that this brings good luck and that diseases can be driven away by doing this. 

Cuju

Cuju is an interesting game played during this period. Ju is a ball made of leather with hairs in it. It is said that the Yellow Emperor first invented it for training warriors. Later, Cuju was used by people to build up their bodies when they were unable to eat hot food during the Cold Food Festival. 

Qingtuan

In the lower parts of the Yangtze River region, qingtuan is very popular on Tomb-Sweeping Day. Qingtuan is a kind of round green cake. In order to make the cakes, people mash (捣碎) barnyard grass (艾草) to squeeze juice from it and mix the flour and juice to a paste. Then they put fillings into the paste and steam them. Pretty and delicate, qingtuan tastes special. 

Do you know Gui Haichao? He is the first astronaut with glasses. In May 2023，Gui Haichao joined the Shenzhou 16 mission （太空飞行任务）.After five months，he successfully came back from space.

Gui Haichao is from a small town in Yunnan，China. His parents are farmers. He has a dream.He likes looking at the sky. He has two idols （偶像）.They are Qian Xuesen and Yang Liwei. He wants to be an astronaut like Yang Liwei.

To make his dream come true，he always works hard and tries his best to learn.  His teachers and classmates all think he's very hard-working. Every morning，he is the first student to get to the classroom. Every evening，he is the last one to leave. He is good at Maths，and he thinks a healthy body is important，too. So he often runs and rides a bike at the weekend.

Gui Haichao is a hero（英雄）.He is the pride （骄傲） of Chinese people.

Mushrooms are tasty and rich in healthy nutrients (营养物), which makes some people  collect them in the wild. However, eating the wrong mushrooms can make you sick or even dead. Therefore, growing mushrooms yourself inside your own home is getting popular.

There are two ways to do this. You can buy a set of materials from a garden store called a "grow kit (工具包) "or you can put them together yourself.

Grow kits(GK)

Grow kits are a great way for beginners to try growing mushrooms. These grow kits include partly-grown mushroom starters, called "spawn." (菌种体) The spawn is set in soil (土壤) and is planted in its own grow box. You put the spawn in water overnight. Then you return it to the box and open it to fresh air. Water it twice a day.

Within two or three weeks, you will be eating mushrooms with more on the way. It is fun and easy.

Putting them together yourself(PTTY)

If you want a larger harvest, it will cost less to put the materials together yourself. It is easy, too.

For starters, you will need a wooden, metal, or plastic box and some soil mixed with compost (肥料) and other materials. You will also need to buy fungal spores (真菌孢子) (something like seeds).

With clean hands, fill the box with your soil and materials. Put the spores evenly over the soil substance (物质) and water it twice a day gently.

To grow quickly and effectively, the spore-topped soil material should be kept away from direct sunlight. It should be kept at or close to 21℃. Put a piece of cloth lightly over the top of the box to keep moisture(水分) in. But do not cover it tightly (紧紧地). After it was coated with mycelium (菌丝体), move the box to a cooler place —12℃ to 15 ℃.

Mushrooms grow very quickly. With their tops fully open, they will be ready to harvest. That will be in about three to four weeks. Use a sharp, clean knife to cut them at soil level to avoid influencing nearby growth.

When Zeki Basan was 16, he lived in a tent for almost a year on the island of Skye in Scotland. It can seem unusual for someone to live like that, especially if you are a teenager, but it wasn't for him. He was on a course at the School of Adventure Studies, and thought it was good to learn how to live away from the city while he was studying. The fact that some of his best memories were of growing up in the mountains in the Highlands with his mother and sister probably helped him make this decision. They used to live far away from any towns and even had to use cross-country skis(滑雪板) to take food there every winter.

Zeki experienced a few difficult situations while he was learning how to live alone in the tent. Once he was in the mountains when the weather got really bad while he was hiking. It was impossible to see very far in front of him, but he knew to stay calm and not panic (恐慌). That ability was also really useful when he was on a camping trip with his classmates and the weather was terrible. Some people were extremely tired and anxious and had to leave, but it wasn't a problem for him.

Zeki doesn't live in a tent anymore, but would like to see more people living the way that he did, so close to nature, for a short period of time. He says:"People don't really know their environment... they don't tend to explore it. But to really know your own environment... is quite an incredible thing." He feels that if people connect more with nature, they will understand and enjoy it. Zeki continues to enjoy the outdoors and to use his skills in his life now as a young adult - he works in Iceland as a guide, and in Scotland as a survival(生存) skills instructor.
