Don't Let the Candle Off

A man had a little daughter—an only and much-loved child. He lived for her— she was his whole 1 He was so happy to hear his girl's voice that he hardly imagined what he would do 2 her. But unluckily, one day, his daughter became seriously ill. He was very 3. He tried all he could to 4 her. At last, his efforts (努力) was 5 and the child died. The father became a bitter recluse (隐士) after that, shutting 6 away from his friends and refusing(拒绝) every activity that might7 him back to his normal self. But one night he had a dream. He was in heaven, seeing a group of little child angels. They were dressed in white and8 in a line passing by the Great White Throne. Every angel9 a candle. He noticed that all the candles were bright except one. Then he found that the child with the 10 candle was his own little daughter. 11 to her, he held her in his 12, hugged her gently, and then asked, "Why is it, darling, that your candle alone is unlighted?" His daughter said, "Daddy, they often relight it, but your 13 always put it out." Just then he 14 socialized (交际) freely and gladly with his former friends and colleagues. No longer would his darling's candle be put out by his useless tears.

    We can't avoid having a sad 15 during lifetime, but we should remember not to let our beloved person's candle off.

    One day, the students of Class 6 were reading in the classroom. Mrs. Brown came in and told the whole class they would have to change the 1 the next week. All of the students disagreed 2 Mrs. Brown, so they shouted when Mrs. Brown said it was because a new student would 3 the class. "Why must we move to another classroom just because someone new is coming?" One of them asked 4. Mrs. Brown stood there without saying anything. After a few minutes, she told them to be  5 to their new classmate and then she left.

    The following week, the head teacher, Mr White himself brought the new student to their class. 6,he pushed the new student to the class because the student was in a wheelchair(轮椅). Mr. White introduced the new student Jeff to the class. He said that Jeff now was a 7of the class and they should work together. He added," Helping each other is very important. " 8 could fully understand what Mr. White meant at first.

    Over time, they began to understand the reason. Jeff was a9 student and often helped the students who didn't understand their work. The class felt very thankful to him. They took care of him because they knew that when someone did something for you, you should do something 10 in return.

    Steve found a job on a farm. He's the strongest and youngest. He ate most, sleeps most, but worked 1.  He hated to use his 2 and knew little. He had to do some unskilled(无技巧的)  work. He always said he's tired and hoped to have a 3 rest. So he 4 less money than his workmates.

    Winter came. The workers were told to get ready 5 the next year. Only Steve did 6. The farmer told him to cut down some trees in the forest. The young man went there with a chair. He felt lonely in the forest and was afraid of the 7. During his work, he looked around and sang 8, and nobody knew what he was singing.

    Three days passed. Steve didn't cut down any trees. The farmer felt strange. He decided 9 to find out how the young man was doing there. To his surprise, Steve was cutting a tree, sitting on a chair.

    "Because I can't work if lying down sir!"

Tyler was a troublesome student. He sat in the back row. Every time I asked him to answer questions, he'd reply with a flip(轻率的) answer. If he got it wrong, he would get very angry. 

Usually kids could sit quietly in class. However, Tyler was just noisy. One day, Tyler was talking while I was teaching. I said to him, "Tyler, why not join in our discussion instead of having one of your own?" He got up from his chair, pushed it over, and shouted something I can't remember. I sent him to the office and he received a week's out-of-school punishment. 

The week was a wonderful time for me, but when it came to an end, I began to feel worried. So I came up with a plan. On the day of his return, I told him I wanted to start over with him. If he felt like he was going to lose control in class, he could step outside the door for a moment. 

From then on, Tyler was a changed student in my classroom. In fact he was a smart child and he even stopped a fight between two students one day. And he never used the privilege(特权) to leave the class for a moment. I believe that just letting him decide for himself made all the difference. 

When the year was over, he wrote me a thank-you note about how good the year had been for him. I still have it today and find it very moving to reread when I get worried about teaching. 

One day, Jack's parents take Jack to watch a music show. Jack feels happy and sad with music, and he knows the power(力量) of music. Then he wants to play music. 

So they go to a store. His father likes the piano, but Jack thinks it is difficult. Mum likes the violin, but Jack doesn't like it. He wants to play the drums. So his dad buys a drum set for him and his mum helps him sign up(报名) for a drum set class. Then he starts learning to play the drums. 

At first, Jack has a lot of problems when he plays the drums. ____ His teacher teaches him patiently and his classmates often help him. He also spends a lot of time practicing it. He knows practice makes perfect. 

Now, Jack does well in class, and he is good at playing the drums. He knows more about the power of music. Jack thinks the drums open the door of exciting life. 

David wanted to be an airplane pilot one day. He loved everything about 1 . 

David was so interested in his air projects that he didn't remember the time. Sometimes he even 2 to do his homework. Once, he was late in preparing his part of a group report. As a result, all the three students in his group got low(低的) grades. "I'm sorry, 3 look at this fantastic model plane!" 

One day at school, David spent his lunch time under a tree drawing a picture of his new spaceship design. He heard the bell at the end of the lunch, but could not make 4 leave. Surely Mrs. Carl would understand 5 he was late when she saw his wonderful idea, he thought.

An hour later, David walked back to his classroom. "Where were you, David? I sent many people to look 6 you." Mrs. Carl said.

"I'm sorry, but I just had to finish this spaceship design." said David as he tried to show Mrs. Carl his 7 .

"But we had a special speaker this afternoon, an airplane pilot who talked about his job. He just finished his speech(演讲) and left."

David's smile fell, along with his 8 . "I forgot! How could I miss him? I can't believe I missed the 9 part of school for the whole year." 

After this, David learned a lesson. He 10 not only look at the sky, but also come back to earth.
