It was a cold snowy morning after the winter vacation. And it was my first day at my new school. I was walking alone slowly and worrying about lots of things. It was early and there weren't many people on the road. Suddenly a girl who was riding a bike on ice fell down. She was trying hard to get up but fell again. Without thinking, I went over and helped her. She said" thank you" with a smile and then rode away. Her words warmed me a lot.

    Finally, I got to school. The teacher led me to the classroom and introduced me to the class. Then he asked me to sit down beside a girl. I felt so nervous that I didn't dare to look at her. Soon the first class, English, started. Their textbooks were different from those in my old school. As I was wondering what to do, an English book appeared in front of me. "Let's share," the girl beside me said. "Hi, I'm Carrie." I looked up. It was the girl I helped this morning. Later on, we became good friends.

    From that I learned: To help others is actually to help ourselves!

    A school was near my home and I often watched the kids from my window when they played basketball. One day, I saw a little girl playing with boys. 1played very well and no one could stop her. Sometimes, I saw her play 2 She often practiced by herself until dark.

    One day I asked her 3 she practiced so much. She said, “I want to go to university. The only way I can go is to get a scholarship（奖学金）. I like to play basketball. If I play well, I can get a scholarship. My Daddy told me that if the 4is big enough and work hard for it, I can be successful.” Then she smiled and ran to go practice. 

    I watched her through junior high and into high school. Every week, she and her school team won in the basketball matches.

    One day, I saw her 5 in the grass. I went over there and sat down beside her. I asked her what was wrong. “Oh, nothing,” she answered, “I am just too short.” The coach told her that she would probably never play for a university team，so she should 6 her dream about university.

    She was sad, but she told me that her father said those coaches were not 7. They did not understand the power of a dream. He told her that if she really wanted to play for a good university, and wanted a scholarship,8could stop her.

    The next year, when she and her 9went to the Northern California match, a university recruiter（招生官员）noticed her and10 her a full scholarship. Her dream finally came true.

    What can you make with pieces of paper？Look at Chen Yiyan's works!The 14﹣year﹣old has Origami（折纸） talent at Hangzhou Entel Foreign Language School．Zhejiang．   ①   But he wasn't born with this talent．

    When Chen was a fourth﹣grader，he found his brother's paper﹣folding book．   ②    Following the 50steps shown in the book，he made his first work，a paper peacock，within two hours．Since then，he has read many books about Origami and practices in his spare time．So far，his“fantasy world“has man members，such as monsters and robots．And he made his favorite work last year．   ③  

    Chen used to fold （折叠）paper himself until he met Chen Changnan，an eighth﹣grader at his school，who also loves Origami．They set up a paper﹣folding club last year．With support from school，they host a paper﹣folding class every Wednesday afternoon．The club soon attracted people．Now it has more tan 20 members．   ④   On February 14^th ． The club also held a speech for the kids in wenzhou Children's Library．

    “It's really exciting to develop my hobby and share it with others at the same time．”said Chen，“I hope more and more people get to know Origami and love this art．”

    Lisa has always been fat. She wanted to lose weight, not only because she wanted to look more beautiful and healthier, but also because it would make life easier.

    For example, it was difficult for Lisa to find ready-made clothes. She had to ask a tailor (裁缝) to make clothes that were large enough. In school, she needed a special chair that was bigger and stronger than other chairs. If she went for a walk, she got tired very quickly.

    She was also unhappy about the way people treated (对待) her sometimes. "People look at me and even make fun of me. It's true that I'm fat, but I don't think people should treat me differently. I can't enjoy having dinner with my friends because I'm afraid of getting fatter." Sometimes when Lisa was feeling sad, she didn't want to speak to anyone.

    But now things are quite different. Last month her classmates were preparing for the School Art Week. Someone advised Lisa to play the lead role (主演) of the proud Queen who was tall and fat. Lisa agreed and practiced a lot.

    Soon after the play, Lisa became a star! She did so well that everybody remembered the proud Queen. Best Actress Award for her wonderful performance (表演).

    Now Lisa doesn't worry about being fat any more. She believes in the English saying "Every dog has its day".

A few years ago, my husband and I were in a village for the weekend with our daughters. One day when we walked around the 1 and didn't know what to do next, our daughters told us 2 what they wanted to do. "We want to 3 the rose garden", said Lisa and Emma.
