Yu Hongru, a 96-year-old Chinese scientist, works hard in science. He puts his life into science because he has deep love for it. And a great scientist needs this spirit（精神）. In fact, this spirit came from Yu's teacher, Guo Yonghuai. At the time of Yu's study, his teacher told him to be a hard-working "ox", so he paid attention to every small thing of his study and worked hard. It's not an overnight success（一夜成名）. Elephants are very large animals. They eat only plants. Baby elephants drink milk from their mother up to three years. Elephants like to live in groups. Some stay with their family even when they grow up. A family group has two to eight animals. Elephants are very big and heavy, but they are very good swimmers. They are very strong, too. They can do many things with their long trunks (象鼻), and they are helpful.

In the past, there were many elephants, but now there are fewer and fewer (越来越少). People hunt them for their tusks. They use them to make ivory products (象牙制品). In Thailand, people use elephants to carry heavy things, and they also train (训练) them for a show. Many elephants hurt badly or die because of the training. In 2003, there were only about 30, 000 Asian elephants in the world. To protect elephants, we shouldn't buy ivory products. We shouldn't watch elephant shows.

How time flies! Ann is a girl in Grade Six now. She has changed a lot in these six years. When she was in Grade One, she ate little. So she was short and thin. She was very shy. And she was afraid to talk to her teachers and classmates. She liked dancing very much. But she couldn't write well. Her parents were worried about that. They tried their best to help her. Day by day, Ann has grown up. Now Ann is quite different. She always  feels  hungry  after  school, so  she  eats  a  lot. She  is  tall  and  pretty. She  is active(活跃的) and she has many friends. She often helps her friends when they are in trouble. They all like her. She doesn't dance for a long time because she is very busy now. She has writing and maths lessons every weekend. She is good at writing now.

She can write interesting stories. Her parents are happy for her changes.
