Andrew has a mental illness. He doesn't speak. He had used a picture chart to communicate. The pictures stand for words—people, places, food and activities.

Years ago, Andrew's parents discovered that he could communicate more by a letter board. He could point to and spell out words and thoughts. Using the letter board needs time and effort for Andrew. He hated to use the letter board, so his parents always offered it to him.

On Andrew's 15th birthday, his mother took him to a shoe store. After buying the shoes, she said. "It's Andrew's birthday today. Fifteen! Now we're off to celebrate."

The salesmen said happy birthday to Andrew. Instead of having Andrew point to the "thank you" on his picture chart, his mother held up his letter board and asked Andrew how he'd like to respond. Andrew pointed to each letter one by one on the board— "Thank you." Andrew's mother smiled.

One of the salesmen asked what it was. "This is a letter board that Andrew uses to communicate," his mother replied. "We've practiced it for years. It's amazing. It's changed everything for us." Then the salesman told them he had a brother called Jason. "Jason is 30 and doesn't speak," he said.

"Andrew, what do you think?" his mother turned to Andrew. Andrew started pointing to letters, "Tell Jason..." She was excited. Andrew continued, "Tell Jason he will change everyone's opinion of him in 26 letters." Andrew's mother and the salesmen were all moved and happy.

Months later, Andrew's mother returned to the shoe store and learned that Jason is now using a letter board to "speak". This is how Andrew affected another person's life in a split second (瞬间).

A WELCOME TO TONGJIANG ZOO

Do you want to see the animals from nearly every part of the world in just one place in one day? Come to Tongjiang Zoo. 

The zoo has more than 2,000 animals of 400 kinds. Big elephants from Yunnan, tigers from the south and the northeast of China, and the African lions, giraffes and zebras, are all waiting for you. Lovely pandas and clever monkeys are going to make you laugh. A lot of other animals which you have never seen are waiting to meet you. It's home to a collection of animals.  

Tongjiang Zoo was built in 1985 and is about 20,000 square metres. There is basic information of each kind of animal about their birthplace and living habits. You can certainly learn a lot. You are welcome to take photos with some animals.

Kunqu Opera (昆曲), also called Kunqiang or Kunju, is one of the oldest operas in China. It has a long history of over 600 years and people call it the Mother of Chinese Operas. 

At the end of the Yuan Dynasty, Gu Jian, an artist in Kunshan near Suzhou, worked together with other artists and they first created (创作) Kunshan qiang. Then in the Ming Dynasty, Wei Liangfu, a great opera artist, changed it and a new kind of opera, Kunqu Opera, came into being (形成). After that, his student Liang Chenyu made more changes to Kunqu Opera and made the first Kunqu play in Chinese history—Huanshaji. Later, more and more artists started to write plays. In the Ming and Qing dynasties, Kunqu Opera was quite popular in China. It was the No. 1 opera until Beijing Opera took its place because Beijing Opera was easier to learn. 

Kunqu Opera has lots of excellent plays from the old times. Many of them are still popular today, such as The Peony Pavilion by Tang Xianzu, The Kite by Li Yu, The Peach Blossom Fan by Kong Shangren and The Palace of Eternal Youth by Hong Sheng. The Peony Pavilion is the very best of all Kunq u Opera plays. It tells the love story between Liu Mengmei and Du Liniang around a number of dreams.

Because of the hard work by opera artists and the help from our country, Kunqu Opera is coming back to life.
