Last summer, I began the biggest adventure(冒险) of my life. I moved from a small city in England to one of the largest cities in the world.

As the plane landed(降落) in Beijing, I felt excited —I finally arrived here after months of planning! The first thing I did was to visit one of the city's hutongs. I couldn't believe that many people still rode their old-fashioned tricycles(老式三轮脚踏车). Just at that time, I thought, "Wow! I'm in China."

Beijing is very different from my city, Preston. Preston has only one shopping street and on Sunday, all the shops close at 4:00 p. m. There aren't many choices when it comes to the restaurants, either, because the food is very simple. But after I have tasted so many kinds of food here, I still don't have a favorite dish.

I am slowly getting used to the different life, and I find that some habits here are quite strange and humorous (幽默的). English people were told not to make any kind of noise at the dinner table when they were children, so it is a funny culture shock (冲击) when I hear the loud noise of Chinese dinners.

In the future, I will go to many other parts of China. I hope I can travel from one end to the other of this beautiful country, taking photos and meeting new people along the way.

My adventure in China has just begun, and I wonder how it will be.

A man made his living by collecting coconuts in the countryside.One day，he went to a small village that he had never been before.

Towards the end of the day，his wagon was filled with coconuts.He decided to head home，because it was getting late.He wished to know how long it would take to get back to his village.

He saw an old man along the roadside and stopped to ask for directions.

"Excuse me，" he said， "Could you please tell me how long will it take to get to Carson from this village？When will I get to my home？"

The old man showed him the right direction and said， "If you go slowly，it will take only a short while for you to get home.But if you go quickly

The man could not understand the answer.He didn't believe the old man's suggestion was friendly.He gave the man an angry look and hit his horse to make it hurry.The horse began to run quickly.But soon，coconuts began to fall from the wagon.Each time，the man got off to collect the fallen coconuts and put them back into his wagon.

The faster he went，the more coconuts fell from his wagon，and the more time he had to take to pick them up.So he went home very late at last.However，△ ，and the man would have arrived home much earlier.

And so，as the old man said ，go slowly and it will take only a short while.

Olga's school was having a big concert tonight. Olga played second flute (长笛), so if the first flute player got sick, Olga could play his or her part.

Today Olga went to school early for more practice. Her music teacher Mr. Perez was waiting for her. He told her that Alonso was ill and stayed in hospital. It meant that Olga would play Alonso's part tonight.

After hearing the news, Olga was very nervous. Alonso was one of the best flute players in the school. Olga thought that she couldn't play well. Mr. Perez smiled, "You practise it every day. Alonso plays well, and so do you. Please try, Olga."

Olga closed her eyes and began to play, but this morning she still felt nervous. The high notes(音符) were hard to reach and the fast notes were difficult to play. The quiet part seemed too loud. When Olga finished, her eyes were filled with tears.

Without saying anything, Mr. Perez played a piece of flute music on his computer. "That's beautiful. I wish I played like that!" Olga said. "Olga, I recorded the music just now. That was you playing!" Mr. Perez said.

"Do my play really sound like that?" Olga was shocked and doubted(怀疑) whether she could play so well. "Sure, that's you!" Mr. Perez told her. "So, don't worry. You work hard and play very well. Never forget to have fun and enjoy the music. You should be confident in yourself. You're a great musician!"

Stephen Hawking, a disabled man with a strong will, who died on March 14, 2018, was born in Oxford, UK, in 1942. He was a world famous scientist and expert on space and time. Stephen was trying to find the answers to some very big questions, such as: How did the universe begin? How will it end? 

When he was a student at university, Stephen studied math and science. Then, at the age of twenty, he became very ill. He was so young, but the doctors said to his family, "He has only two more years to live. " 

The doctors were wrong. He didn't die. He couldn't walk, but he used a wheelchair. He talked with the help of a computer. After Oxford, Stephen went to Cambridge University. Three years later, in 1965, he became a doctor of philosophy (哲学). 

Because of his health problems, it was difficult for him to draw diagrams or to write. So he started to think in pictures. With this new way of thinking, he became one of the most famous scientists in the world. Then in 1988, he wrote his first important book, A Brief History of Time. It sold about 25 million copies in about 40 different languages. 

Stephen Hawking made great achievements in cosmology with his studies searching the answers to the Big Bang and Black Hole in the universe, which brought him great fame as a leading figure in the science world even though he became totally unable to move in two thirds of his whole life. 

 There is an old tree on a dry land. The tree has so many branches(树枝). It brings shadow to hundreds of travelers.

 One day, two travelers got to the tree. They walked for a long time in the hot sun. They were too hot and tired to walk any more. Luckily, they found the big tree.

 They decided to take a rest under the tree. They slept there for a while. When they woke up, they felt hungry and one traveler climbed up the tree. But he was sad to see nothing.

 He started to say bad words to the tree. "Oh, this is just a useless tree without any fruit on." The other traveler said nothing about the tree but asked his friend to be quiet. However, the traveler in the tree still shouted at the tree.

 The tree couldn't stand the traveler at last. He said in a sad yet strong voice, "You can't be ungrateful(忘恩负义的) to me. Just look back to the moment when you got here in the hot sun! I gave you a cool and comfortable place to rest. You would die now without me!"

 Many people do much for us, but we sometimes forget to give thanks but only complain! Make sure not to say any bad words to the one who has helped you.
