③Lesein, 14 years old, first learns about climate change when he is twelve years old. His home country of Kenya loses about 29,650 acres (英亩) of forest each year.

④With a deep love of soccer, Lesein starts Trees for Goals, planting a tree for every goal he scores in a match. Later the school's soccer and basketball teams all follow him. In 2019, almost 1,000 trees in forests outside of Nairobi are planted. Now the government provides (提供) trees for them to plant.

⑤Alexis Lewis, a 15-year-old inventor, designs a simple wheelchair with bamboo to help poor people who need to transport children many miles to hospitals. Another invention of his is a special mask which can be thrown through a window of a smoke-filled building to people inside.

⑥Alexis said, "People are dying because they can't be saved in time. Another reason why I want to invent something is that I love physics and I use it to improve technologies." Alexis also tells our reporter that he wants children to know that ____.

⑦These young people are certainly shining examples to show you're never too young to make a difference.

Marie Curie was born in Poland in 1867. Her father taught maths and physics, 1 she used to enjoy these subjects at school. Marie went to Paris to study physics and maths in 1891. There she 2 a scientist called Pierre Curie. They got married in 1895. Together, Pierre and Marie discovered radium (镭).

In 1903, Marie became the first woman to win a Nobel Prize — she 3 it with Pierre. Then, in 1904, Pierre became a 4 of the "Academie Francaise". Women were not allowed to become members, so Marie was 5 accepted by them. Pierre died in an accident in 1906, but Marie went on working until her death in 1934. 

Lily was a cheerful (开朗的) girl. She always had a big smile on her face. One day, she noticed an old man named Grumble sitting beside a river. The old man looked sad. Lily wanted to make him smile, so she walked up to him with a friendly greeting. "Good morning, Mr. Grumble! Why the long face?" she asked.

Grumble said, "What's there to be happy about? Life is full of troubles." Lily laughed and replied, "Troubles are like big and scary thunderclouds (雷雨云), Mr. Grumble. But just like clouds, they pass, making way for the sun to shine again. You should try looking on the bright side!"

Lily made a bet (打赌) with Grumble, saying, "I bet I can make you smile by the end of the day." Grumble challenged her, "You're welcome to try, but it won't be easy."

For the rest of the day, Lily did all kinds of funny and silly things to make Grumble laugh. She told jokes, sang like nobody was watching, and even made faces. However, Grumble was still unhappy. As the sun began to set, Lily decided to give it one last try. She took a deep breath and broke into a joyful dance.

Surprisingly, Grumble couldn't help laughing. He let out a chuckle (咯咯笑声), and then another. Before he knew it, he was laughing heartily, his sadness giving way to happiness. Lily had won the contest (比赛), but more importantly, she showed Grumble that becoming cheerful was not difficult.

Happiness is a choice, and we can find it when we choose to see the brighter side of life.

"What's wrong, Suzie?" asked Dad. "Why are you looking so unhappy?"

"It is just that Amine's family has moved to Sydney," cried Suzie. "She will go to a new school there, make new friends, lead a new life and… and{#blank#}1{#/blank#} me." Suzie couldn't speak any more with tears in her eyes.

Dad held Suzie's small hand in his large one and {#blank#}2{#/blank#} patted（拍）her on the head.

"It's OK, Suzie," he said. "I am sure you will find another friend. There are so many other children at school, aren't there?"

"But… but it is not the same! Amine is my special friend— the best friend I have ever had. I don't want to {#blank#}3{#/blank#} without her."

"Now, dear, it is really sad to see Amine going away. But you have to move on with your {#blank#}4{#/blank#} life. Listen to me, go to school and get yourself some new friends. Cheer up!"

Suzie nodded her head and began reading her storybook.

I felt coming steps. She was coming to teach all things to me, and to love me. 

I still remember the morning my teacher came, she led me into her room and gave me a doll (玩具娃娃). When I had played with it a little while, Miss Sullivan slowly spelled into my hand the word "d-o-l-l". I was at once interested in this finger play and tried to imitate (模仿) it. When I succeeded in making the letters correctly, I was so excited and proud. I did not know I was spelling, even didn't understand everything has a name. 

 Once, as I was playing with my new doll, Miss Sullivan put my old doll onto my leg, spelled"d-o-l-l" and tried to make me understand they were both dolls. Another time, she tried to tell me that"m-u-g" is mug and that"w-a-t-e-r" is water, but I still mixed them up. Hopelessly, she had to teach me from the beginning.  ▲ , so I threw the new doll upon the floor. 

I was quite happy when I felt the pieces of the broken doll at my feet. I was neither sad nor regretful. In my still, dark world, there was no warmth or love. I felt my teacher sweep the pieces aside, and it seemed that my trouble moved away. 

Later, we walked down the path to a well house. Someone was drawing water(抽水) and she placed my hand under the spout. As the cool stream flowed over one hand, she spelled the word"w-a-t-e-r" into the other, first slowly, then rapidly. I stood still and paid my whole attention on her fingers. Suddenly I knew "w-a-t-e-r" meant the wonderful thing flowing over my hand. That living word awakened my soul, gave it light, hope, joy, and set it free!

I left the well house and wanted to learn more about the world. As we returned to the house, I remembered the doll I had broken. I picked up the pieces and tried to put them together. Then I cried, for I realised what I had done, and for the first time I felt sad and regretful. 

I learned many new words that day. I do not remember what they all were, but I do know that mother, father, sister and teacher were among them. It would have been difficult to find a happier child than I was. While lying in my bed at the end of that day, I hoped for a new day to come for the first time.

I am a middle school student. In the past, I had some bad habits. I almost never had breakfast {#blank#}1{#/blank#}I usually got up late. I didn't like exercising. I only exercised a few {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(time) a month. In the evening, I always watched TV for over two hours. Then I played online games for a long time, so I almost slept {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(little) than six hours every night. My parents thought {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(stay) up late was bad for my body and mind, so they got really {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(worry) about me.

 One day, I fainted(晕倒) in a P. E. class. When I woke up, I found {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(I) lying in the hospital bed. The doctor said that my classmates brought me here. He said that I was not {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(health). Then he told me to eat breakfast every day and do more exercise.

 From then on, I {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(decide) to change my bad habits. Now I usually get up early and have a good breakfast. I try to eat lots of vegetables and fruit every day. After school, I always spend time {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(play) sports together with my friends. It's fun and good way {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(relax).

 Oh, I sleep nine hours every night. People often say, "Old habits die hard." ButI learned a lesson and changed it.
