Albert Einstein（1879—1955）

Early Life

Albert Einstein was born in 1879 in Germany. He was an extraordinary person since he wasborn. Einstein wasn't able to speak a word until three. He was always interested in things around and full of imagination. He loved watching things carefully and asked a lot of questions about them. His questions were often hard to answer for teachers. 

Schooling

Einstein started school in 1885. Though he did well in maths and science，he failed in many subjects like history，geography and languages. Einstein finished high school in Switzerland and entered a university in Zurich. He graduated（大学毕业）as a teacher of maths and physics in 1900. 

Scientific Work

After graduation，Einstein worked at the Patent Office. He spent much time studying physics. By 1909，Einstein had become a top scientist. Though he became successful in the field of science，he won the Nobel Prize for physics in 1921. 

Later life

Einstein kept at his research until he died in 1955. Scientists studied his brain after his death to see if there was anything special about it. However，there was no answer. 

Today，many famous scientists still think Einstein is the smartest man in the world. 

Xian Xinghai was a very famous musician in China. He wrote one of 1 pieces of music of the 20th century. In his short life, he wrote nearly 300 songs and 2 opera. 

Xian was born in Panyu, Guangdong, China in 1905. His father died before he was born, Xian moved from place 3 place with his mother. He began learning 4 the violin when he was 20 years old. In the beginning, his violin was very old and cheap. So he 5 play it well. His friends laughed at him. Xian did not stop 6 and soon showed his talent. In 1934, he studied in a special music school in Paris. He was one of the first Chinese students to go there. Before he left, Xian became the school's best student and won several prizes for his talents. 

In 1935, he 7 to China and helped fight against the Japanese army. 8 , he came to Yan'an to teach music at a college. 9 there were no pianos in Yan'an at that time, Xian still wrote some of his most important music there. 

In May 1940, the Chinese Communist Party sent Xian to the Soviet Union to write music for movies. In the Soviet Union, life was very hard. Xian got sick and died on 30th October, 1945, aged only 40. However, he gave 10 the wonderful music. And we will remember Xian.

Last summer holiday, I went bungee jumping (蹦极) with my best friend, Tony. I was very happy at first. But while Tony was going up, I just stood on the {#blank#}1{#/blank#}because I was a bit afraid. "Come on, Bill.{#blank#}2{#/blank#} me!" Tony said. I thought about it for a while and went up. I took all the things out of my pocket. I tried twice. Then I jumped and {#blank#}3{#/blank#} down. It was fast. Finally, I {#blank#}4{#/blank#} safely. I was so {#blank#}5{#/blank#} that I wanted to go bungee jumping again. 

It's never too late to learn. 66-year-old Xu Baokun is a good example to show that. The grandma learned to play the drums and got popular online because of her drum playing (打鼓).

Xu comes from Guangxi. She is a farmer. When she was young, she worked in the fields (田地) all year round. But, with age, she had some health problems. That stopped her from going here and there. As a result, she lived a boring life.

Xu's son teaches others music in Guangdong Province. Last year, he brought a drum set (架子鼓，爵士鼓，套鼓) home for Xu to play. At first, Xu thought playing the drums was too noisy. But after watching her son play a few times, she became interested in it and decided to learn to play.

Because Xu knew nothing about music, ▲ . She spent lots of time practicing playing the drums every day. Now she can play many songs. What's more, she is healthier than before thanks to drum playing.

Xu's son put her videos (录像) of drum playing online. To his surprise, Xu quickly got popular. Now Xu plays at some weddings (婚礼) and the TV station. She is anxious before she plays in front of others, but when she sees the drum set, she knows she will do a good job.

"Age is just a number," Xu said. "I'll learn more beautiful music to bring happiness to more people."
