Dereck and Beverly are wildlife animal filmmakers(制片人). They have made lots of films about animals and plants. Their job is to keep and protect the big cats of Africa from damage(伤害).Beverly also takes photos of the lions, and her pictures have appeared in National Geographic magazine.

When they were kids, Dereck was quiet and healthy, he was good at maths and science. Beverly had a twin brother. At that time, her brother and she often got their mother into trouble! Beverly was a dancer, an athlete, a class leader and she could play the piano. Her favourite subject was science and she always got excellent grades in her science exams.

When in the field, their work starts at around 4 am. After drinking a cup of tea, they drive out into the bush(灌木丛) to find their subjects. Sometimes that is a lion pride(狮群).Lions are family animals and they usually live in groups of 15 or more. Sometimes that is a single leopard(豹). They follow the animals for the day, filming, researching, and collecting facts, information or pictures. They don't stop working even when they have lunch. They are often back in camp by 8 pm.

When talking about the favourite places to explore, Dereck says, "We live in it!"Beverly thinks being in nature is her favourite. Dereck thinks running or taking a swim in the Okavango swamp (沼泽) — especially swimming close to crocodiles(鳄鱼) is great fun, but Beverly says,"Swimming is fun but crazy in these waters!"

Han Qian, 35, is now responsible for recruitment（招募）at the Volunteer Department of the Beijing 2022 Organizing Committee. Thirteen years ago, he was a volunteer at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. 

"I'm honored to take part in two Olympics," said Han. "Being a volunteer is different from organizing them, though both are great experiences. Passion is necessary for being a volunteer, which requires volunteers to be in high spirits and warm-hearted. But being an organizer, they may face many new challenges because more thinking and planning are needed in organizing volunteers."

Because of COVID-19, volunteers need to be quarantined（隔离）after the test events as well as after the Winter Olympics and Paralympics（残奥会）. This means they have to give up more time for this job. As around 90 percent of the volunteers are university students, according to Han, this could affect their schoolwork. So Han's team has helped schools to support the students as much as they can. 

Han's team worked with schools to recruit students. "For example, volunteers from Tsinghua University are responsible for the National Stadium, while those from Peking University take care of the National Aquatics Center, Han said. The cold weather is another challenge, as some games will be held outdoors. The outdoor volunteers need to have physical training, like 15-kilometer walks, to prepare for their work. The organizing committee also provides hats, warmer pads and more frequent shifts for them. 

"Many volunteers have developed interest in winter sports because of this experience," Han said. "I've seen them post pictures of themselves skiing and skating. I'm happy that the volunteering experience is meaningful for them."

One day, a boy fought with one of his classmates at school. In the evening, he {#blank#}1{#/blank#} his grandfather what happened. "He is really bad, "the boy said {#blank#}2{#/blank#}. "And I hate him."

The grandfather said with a {#blank#}3{#/blank#}, "Let me tell you a story, dear. When I was a boy at your age, I sometimes hated others, for what they did, too." The boy listened carefully as his grandfather went on. "There {#blank#}4{#/blank#} always two tigers in my heart. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} is good and kind. He gets on well with people around him. But the other is bad and {#blank#}6{#/blank#}. Even the smallest thing will make him angry. It's hard for me to live with {#blank#}7{#/blank#} two tigers in my heart. They {#blank#}8{#/blank#} try to control me."

The boy looked into his {#blank#}9{#/blank#} eyes and asked, "Which tiger controls you, grandfather?" The old man said slowly, "The one that I feed. I always {#blank#}10{#/blank#} the good tiger, so I never hate others and seldom get angry."

A mother returned home from work. She was tired after working 1 long hours. Her 8-year-old son was waiting for her. He wanted 2 her something about his younger brother. "While I 3 outside, Tyler took his crayons and wrote on the wall! He wrote on 4 wall in the living room. 5 dirty the wall is! I told him you would be angry with him for doing it again". The mother frowned (皱眉), "Where is your little brother now?" "He's in the bedroom. He knows that it's not good to do that." She walked to Tyler's bedroom. She called 6 full name when she opened the door. 

For the next 10 minutes, she was angry 7 shouted at the little boy. The more she shouted, the 8 she was. Then she went to the living room to see what the wall was like. 9 she saw the wall, she felt moved (感动的) and her eyes were full of tears (眼泪). It said "I love Mommy" and there were some 10 . Here is a lesson for everyone: we should spend more time playing with the children at home. 

One afternoon, my son Eric asked me, "Are all people the same even if (即使) they have skins (皮肤) of different colors?" It was a difficult question. I 1 for a minute and said, "Let's go to a 2 shop. I'll show you something."

At the shop, we bought some apples in different colors--red, green and yellow. After we 3 , I told Eric, "It's time to 4 your question." I put one apple of each color on the table. Eric watched them with a surprised(惊讶的) look on his 5 . "Eric, can you tell me which apple you like best?" Eric picked up the red apple 6 . Then I peeled (剥皮) all the apples and put them back on the table. "OK, Eric, now tell me which one you like best." He said, "I can't tell. They all look 7 now." I said, "Eat them and see which one is which." He ate and said, "I got it, Dad. People are like 8 . They are in different sizes and 9 . On the outside of the apples, some of them may not look as 10 as the others, but are the same inside."

Eric knew everything. I didn't need to say or do anything.
