Names are important for Chinese people. Parents choose （选择） a good name for their baby. They think that the good name will bring good luck （运气） to their child.

Chinese surnames (family names)

Chinese surnames come first. They are different from the order of the Western names. There are over 3000 Chinese surnames in use today, but about half （半） of Chinese people use the same 19 surnames. The most common （常见的） surnames are Wang and Li.

Chinese given names

Most Chinese given names have meanings or good wishes. Many Chinese women's names mean "happiness", "beauty" or "flowers". Chinese men's names often mean "strength", "greatness" and "happiness".

Funny Chinese names

Some Chinese names can be very funny. For example, a man's surname is Qian (with the meaning of "money"). His full name is Qian Duo (with the meaning of "much money"). Someone has the surname Zhou ("Week" is one of the meaning of Zhou) and his given name is Mo (with the meaning of "end"). Then his name would mean " ▲ "!

Liu Mei: Where is John? Mr. Smith wants to talk with him.

Bai Ling: Maybe he is at the school shop. Does John often eat ice cream?

Liu Mei: Sometimes.

Tom: Sometimes he plays music in the music room. I think you can find him there.

Mike: He isn't there today. I often play basketball after school in the playground. Sometimes John plays basketball with me.

The Big Parade

On October 1st in 2019，to celebrate the 70th birthday of the People's Republic of China（中华人民共和国），there was a big parade on Tian'anmen Square.100，000 people and 70 floats（巡游花车） joined the parade.There were workers，farmers，teachers，students，and the Chinese women's volleyball players.I was one of them.As a Young Pioneer（少先队员），I stood on a colourful float with many other primary school students.We waved flowers.We sang and danced.We all wished our motherland a happy birthday and a glorious future（光明的未来）.That was the most exciting day in my life.I will never forget it.I am so proud of my motherland!

I make my friend Cathy with the dough. My teachers and friends help me. Let's have a look of my production process(制作过程)!
STEP 1(步骤1): Prepare(准备) a soft dough and make her head. She has long hair.
STEP 2: Make her body. She is tall and thin.
STEP 3: Make her clothes. She likes to wear dresses(连衣裙), so I make one for her. Then I make a pair of shoes for her.
STEP 4: Colour it. Her hair is black and her face is pink. She likes yellow, so I painther dress yellow. And then I paint her shoes red.

I'm very happy today. Because I not only experience(体验) the process of making dough sculpture, but also get a deep friendship(深厚的友谊).
