How do you usually go to school? Most of you may go to school  {#blank#}1{#/blank#} foot or by bike, {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Wu Yahan rides a horse to school every day.

Wu Yahan is a student from Inner Mongolia(内蒙古) in China. She is 13 years old. It is about ten {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (kilometer) from her home to school. In her class, some parents drive {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (they) children to school every day. But Yahan's father doesn't do it like them. He {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (ask) his daughter to ride a horse to school because he thinks it is good exercise and that is good for her {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (healthy). Yahan is not good at {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (ride) the horse at first. But with her father's help, she can ride it very well now. The horse runs {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (quick) and it only takes Yahan half {#blank#}9{#/blank#} hour to get to school. Now her classmates think it is cool on the horse and they want {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (go) to school on a horse, too.

I had an accident with my plane in the Desert of Sahara (撒哈拉沙漠) 6 years ago. One morning, I heard a 1 . It said, "Could you please draw me a sheep?"

I looked 2  all around me and saw a very very small person. "Who are you?" I asked. However, he seemed not to 3  my question. 

"Could you please draw me a sheep?" he asked again. I was not good at drawing,4  I didn't want to say no. Then I drew a picture for him—a picture of a boa constrictor (大蟒蛇) eating a(n)5 . 

"No! I don't want an elephant inside a boa constrictor. It is very 6  and I'm afraid of it! I need a sheep!"

Can you 7  how surprised (惊讶的) I was at his words? Because people around me thought the 8  was a hat when I first drew it at 6! So I drew the 9  picture—a sheep. He looked at it carefully and said, "No. This sheep doesn't 10  so healthy. Please draw me another one."

So I drew the third picture. "This is not what I wanted 11 . This is a goat (山羊), not a sheep."

Then I did the fourth drawing. "This one is too 12 . I want a younger sheep. I hope it can live for long."

After hearing his words, I 13  my patience (耐心). Then I drew a box and told him, "This box is for 14  sheep. And your sheep is in it."

Bayika Kalidibek is 72 years old and he lives in Xinjiang. In 1972, he took over his father's position and worked as a border patrolman (护边员).

Being a border patrolman is hard. The border area has high mountains and difficult roads. Bayika got hurt (受伤) many times during patrols. He faced many problems, but he never gave up. He said, "Protecting the border is a job for all of us, not just the country's."

In 2004, his son Laqini started to work as a border patrolman. Unluckily, he gave up his life when he saved (拯救) a boy from a cold river in 

2021. He was only 41 at that time. "I'm really sad, but I'm proud (自豪的) of him," Bayika said. "Our family has protected the border for more than 70 years. We will pass down our family's tradition from one generation (一代人) to the next."

Bayika's story is touching. We should learn from the old man.
