l live in a beautifulcity. Many visitors come to my city. Here are so many colourful peacocks(孔雀)here. The peacocks mostly live on the grassland of Dongfeng Square.They are given food freely by visitors. They usually throw food to themm anddon't think about at all whether the food is right or not. Some of the peacocksbecame ill, and some even died after eating the bad food given by the visitors.I'm sure most of the visitors who throw food to the peacocks really like thebirds. but don't realise (意识到)that they may be doingthem harm(伤害).

The visitors should betold that what they have done is very harmful to the birds, and this kind of thingmust be stopped from happening.

Perhaps we can buildsome small shops beside Dongfeng Square to sell peacock food. For us, it's our dutyto give more love to these beautiful birds and to look after them carefully.

Ethan was riding his new bike. When he got to the end of the road, he turned around. He stopped the bike in front of Mom. 

"See? I never fall anymore. Can I ride to the park alone now?"

Usually, when Ethan rode a bike to the park, Mom or Dad came along. But this time, he was sure he could do it on his own. 

Mom looked at Ethan and said, "OK. But there are lots of cars on the street when you ride. You must be careful of them. And remember to come home early. Now, have fun on your own!"

Ethan felt excited to hear this. The park wasn't far from his home. Ethan looked both ways when he rode into the street, and he remembered his mom's words. At the end of the street, Ethan had to turn right to get to the park. He used his arm to make the signal (信号) so cars would know where he was going. 

When Ethan arrived at the park, he slowed down. He parked his bike and ran to find his friends. 

"You know what? I rode my bike here all by myself!" Ethan said. "It's very cool to do it on my own."

I like traveling alone. I have been to the Terracotta（兵马俑）, Disneyland and the Bird's Nest（鸟巢）. Attracted(吸引) by the beauty of the Great Wall, I flew there by myself this time.

At the entrance (入口), one short old woman followed me all the time. She wanted me to buy some cards. Finally, I became angry. "Don't you understand the meaning of ‘No'?" I shouted at her and left.

As soon as I walked along the Great Wall, I felt very excited. Then, when I was halfway, I found I was on a very dangerous road, and there were no walls. When the cold wind came, I was afraid. Suddenly, I heard a soft voice behind. Someone told me not to be afraid and she would help me. As I felt a pair of hands trying to keep me safe, I calm down(镇静).

Half an hour later, we arrived at a safer place. Feeling better, I turned around to see who she was. She was the short old woman. I felt humiliated for what I did and gave her a big hug (拥抱).

Through this experience, I learned that we should be kind to others because we never know what situation we'll be in and when we'll need help.

 That cold January night, I was growing sick of my life in San Francisco. There I was walking home at I am in the morning after a tiring practice at the theatre. With opening night only a week away,I was still learning my lines(台词). I was having trouble dealing with my part- time job at the bank and my acting at night at the same time. As I walked, I thought seriously about giving up both acting and San Francisco. City life had become too much for me.

 As I walked down empty streets under tall buildings, I felt very small and cold. I began running, both to keep warm and to keep away any possible robbers(强盗). Very few people were still out except a few sad- looking homeless people under blankets(毯子).

 About a block from my apartment, I heard a sound behind me. I turned quickly, half expecting to see someone with a knife or a gun. The street was empty. All I saw was a shining streetlight. Still, the noise had made me nervous, so I started to run faster. Not until I reached my apartment building and unlocked the door did I realize what the noise had been. It had been my wallet falling to the sidewalk.

 Suddenly I wasn't cold or tired anymore. I ran out of the door and back to where I'd heard the noise. Although I searched the sidewalk anxiously for fifteen minutes, my wallet was nowhere to be found.

 Just as I was about to give up the search, I heard the garbage truck pull up to the sidewalk next to me. When a voice called from the inside," Alisa Camacho?"I thought I was dreaming. How could this man know my name? The door opened, and out jumped a small red- haired man with a cheerful look in his eyes." Is this what you' re looking for?" he asked, holding up a small square shape.

 It was nearly 3 am by the time I got into bed. I wouldn't get much sleep that night, but I had got my wallet back. I also had got back some enjoyment of city life.

I'm Tony. I'm an English boy, but now I'm in Wuhan. My parents come to Wuhan for work. So I come here with them. 

I like Chinese very much. It's my favorite subject. My Chinese classmates can speak Chinese very well. I always ask them for help. And I help them with their English. In my free time, I like watching TV and practicing (练习) my Chinese from TV. After eight months, I can speak Chinese very well. 

My science is good, too. I think it's very interesting and useful. But my math is not very good. I don't know much about math. Math lessons are not easy for me. I want to thank my Chinese classmates. They always help me with it. 

On Saturday and Sunday I like to play with my Chinese classmates. I know many things about China from them. And I make many Chinese friends. We always have a good time!

 In China, a year has 24 solar terms. They were created thousands of years ago to guide people's lives. Grain Buds or Xiaoman, the 8th solar term of a year, begins on May 20 this year, and ends on June 4. Grain Buds holds both natural and cultural importance. It means that the seeds of summer crops like wheat are becoming full but are not ripe(成熟的). The name xiaoman has also special meanings in Chinese culture and shows how Chinese people think about life. The word mixes xiao, meaning little, and man, meaning"full". Together, it means"things are not yet completely full". This name shows that it is best not to do too much or too little.

 Let's see what we can do during the"Grain Buds" period.

A good season for eating

 During the Grain Buds period, summer harvest is about to begin. A saying about rain during this time goes, "A heavy rainfall makes the river full." Because of the great increase in rainfall, rivers are full of water, which makes fish and shrimps big and fat. This is a good time to enjoy them.

 Grain Buds is also a season for eating mulberries(桑葚) and bitter herbs(苦菜) which can cool the blood and remove harmful things from the body.

A key period for flower caring

This time is a good period of the quick growth of flowers. It is also a season when plant diseases and pests are the most, which makes growing flowers even harder. Caring for your garden becomes even more important than any other time. If you take good care of them, your plants will be healthier.

 High temperatures and wet days are common during the Grain Buds period. The increase in temperature over this season may make you get skin illnesses easily. It is also important to exercise during the hot summer days. Walking, jogging and practicing tai chi are popular.
