A person who writesmusic is called a composer. Ludwig van Beethoven was one of the greatest composers.

He was born onDecember 16th, 1770 in Bonn, Germany. He was a clever child who became a great composerand musician. His father died when he was only eighteen years old. From thattime on he had to provide for (供养) himselfand his two younger brothers. He played the viola (中提琴)in an orchestra. In 1792, Haydn, a famous composer at the time, saw Beethoven'sperformance (表演) and realised that he was a verytalented (有才能的) musician. He asked him to come toVienna with him and study' under him.

Beethoven did, andbecame a great composer. His music was filled with his own emotions (感情) which created (创造) a new style of music atthe time. Later on, Beethoven became deaf and had to compose his music entirelyin his head without even hearing a note of it himself. He died on March 26th, 1827.

In the US, about 400,000 students are learning Chinese. Chinese is getting more and more popular there.

Murray is one of the Chinese learners. He became interested in Chinese tea culture when he was 12 years old. To learn more about tea and find the best tea, he started to learn Chinese.

Murray spent two years learning Chinese at the University of Pittsburgh." Those two years of study life were very busy," he said. He went to a class at 8 a. m. on weekdays. All students needed to speak Chinese in class. Every Monday and Wednesday he went to a grammar class at 2 p. m. For Murray, Chinese grammar is easy because the Chinese language has no tense(时态). But the pronunciation is really a hard part of the language. To improve it, Murray needed to practice Chinese four tones(声调) every day.

①The traditional Chinese lunar calendar divides a year into twenty- four solar terms. Start of winter, Lidong in Chinese, the 19th solar term of the year, falls on November 7th this year.

②Lidong was once a big day in ancient(古代的) China. Before the day, the emperor(帝王) would take a shower and have no meat. On that day, the emperor and his officials(官员) would all dress in black and go out of the city to welcome winter. Today, to welcome the day, some people choose to have swimming competitions in the rivers in some cold places such as Harbin in Heilongjiang Province.

③As winter comes, the weather gets colder and colder. Chinese people often eat enough food to keep their bodies warm and healthy. On the day of Lidong, people in North China love eating dumplings. In South China, people love to eat chicken, duck and fish. In some places in Guangdong Province, people eat sugar cane(甘蔗) on the day. They think this is good for their teeth. In Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, people will eat green onions for good health. In Taiwan Province, people often eat mutton.

④Lidong is the time to start wearing warm clothes. In old times, the emperor would hand out warm winter clothes to the officials on the day. People would also remember to give" clothes" to their lost family. They would also have delicious food to show how much they missed the lost ones.

On April 11th, 2024, the third day of the third lunar month, the ancestor worship (祭祀) ceremony (典礼) of the Yellow Emperor {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(hold) in Xinzheng, Zhengzhou, Henan, China. Chinese all over the world once again looked back at {#blank#}2{#/blank#} hometown of the Yellow Emperor to worship {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(they) ancestor Yellow Emperor, Xuanyuan, pray for the motherland, and wish for a {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(peace) and harmonious world.

  {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (join) in the event together, overseas (海外的) Chinese hold a grand ancestor worship ceremony in local areas every year.

In Sydney, more than 400 people {#blank#}6{#/blank#} are from the Australian Chinese community, {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (include) more than 70 overseas Chinese {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(lead) from Sydney and other places, gathered together. In San Francisco, more than a thousand people from various social groups, civil organizations, friends, and media at home and abroad gathered to pray for China. This year marks the {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(four) year that the London Chinatown Chinese Association has hosted an Ancestor Worship Ceremony for overseas Chinese in the UK, which {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(great) helps overseas Chinese to "seek their roots and build their dreams" as well.

Yesterday, Mary didn't feel well. She had a sore throat and a runny nose. She also had a fever. Her mother was worried and took her to the doctor. At the doctor's office, the doctor asked Mary how she was feeling and about her symptoms（症状). Mary told the doctor about her sore throat, runny nose and the fever. The doctor then checked Mary's throat and listened to her breathing with a stethoscope. 

After the examination, the doctor said that Mary had a cold. The doctor advised Mary to drink lots of water, have a good rest and take some medicine. The doctor also told her to avoid eating spicy and cold food for a few days. 

Mary and her mother thanked the doctor and went home. Mary hoped she would get better soon so that she could go back to school and play with her friends.
