It was Lisa's seventh birthday. She received a special gift from Uncle To by. It was a box of little ducks. Lisa was very excited, because she was looking forward to playing with little ducks.

Lisa tried to carry the box to her garden. However, the box of ducks was heavy and she dropped it. The box fell to the ground and broke. The ducks all ran out. They ran everywhere—into neighbours' gardens, into the field, even into the next street. Lisa spent hours trying to find them and took them back to her garden.

Then she called her uncle and told him about the little accident.

"Did you find them all?" her uncle asked.

"I hope so," Lisa replied. "I caught ten of them."

"That's very interesting," her uncle said with a smile, "because I only sent you eight."

Today is Father's Day. It's a festival to thank fathers for doing so{#blank#}1{#/blank#} for their families. I'd like to say something about my father, too.

Many people say the father's love is as {#blank#}2{#/blank#} as the mountain. In my heart, I always admire my father and regard {#blank#}3{#/blank#} as a real hero. He is a great doctor, he always {#blank#}4{#/blank#} each sick person patiently and wants him or her to become healthy soon. He has saved many people's {#blank#}5{#/blank#} by using his excellent medical skills.

{#blank#}6{#/blank#} he has free time at home, he likes to play video games with me. If I have problems with my study, he will {#blank#}7{#/blank#} me. When I get on with others, he often warns me to {#blank#}8{#/blank#} polite and not to say bad words. He also wishes me to stop complaining(抱怨) about bad things in life. He can {#blank#}9{#/blank#} the correct direction of my life. His words have encouraged me to move on and grow up.

The four Seasons

Many places have {#blank#}1{#/blank#} seasons.  They are spring, summer, autumn and winter.  The weather and sunlight change season by season. 

We see a lot of young {#blank#}2{#/blank#} （animal）in spring, chicks hatch（孵）and lambs（羔羊）are born（出生）.  There are more daylight hours {#blank#}3{#/blank#} spring than in winter.  In summer, we have {#blank#}4{#/blank#} good time in the sun.  We wear short, light clothing.  Summer {#blank#}5{#/blank#} （have）the most daylight hours.  It is very hot and bright.  Fruit grows on trees.  The {#blank#}6{#/blank#} （leaf）fall from the trees in autumn.  Autumn is a cool season.  Birds start to move to warm places in autumn.  You can see them in the sky.  Winter is cold and {#blank#}7{#/blank#} （snow）.  It has the fewest daylight hours.  There are almost no leaves on the trees.  It is interesting {#blank#}8{#/blank#} （make）snowmen. 

Each season is {#blank#}9{#/blank#} （beauty）.  How {#blank#}10{#/blank#} （love）they are!

①The traditional Chinese lunar calendar divides a year into twenty- four solar terms. Start of winter, Lidong in Chinese, the 19th solar term of the year, falls on November 7th this year.

②Lidong was once a big day in ancient(古代的) China. Before the day, the emperor(帝王) would take a shower and have no meat. On that day, the emperor and his officials(官员) would all dress in black and go out of the city to welcome winter. Today, to welcome the day, some people choose to have swimming competitions in the rivers in some cold places such as Harbin in Heilongjiang Province.

③As winter comes, the weather gets colder and colder. Chinese people often eat enough food to keep their bodies warm and healthy. On the day of Lidong, people in North China love eating dumplings. In South China, people love to eat chicken, duck and fish. In some places in Guangdong Province, people eat sugar cane(甘蔗) on the day. They think this is good for their teeth. In Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, people will eat green onions for good health. In Taiwan Province, people often eat mutton.

④Lidong is the time to start wearing warm clothes. In old times, the emperor would hand out warm winter clothes to the officials on the day. People would also remember to give" clothes" to their lost family. They would also have delicious food to show how much they missed the lost ones.

 In China, a year has 24 solar terms. They were created thousands of years ago to guide people's lives. Grain Buds or Xiaoman, the 8th solar term of a year, begins on May 20 this year, and ends on June 4. Grain Buds holds both natural and cultural importance. It means that the seeds of summer crops like wheat are becoming full but are not ripe(成熟的). The name xiaoman has also special meanings in Chinese culture and shows how Chinese people think about life. The word mixes xiao, meaning little, and man, meaning"full". Together, it means"things are not yet completely full". This name shows that it is best not to do too much or too little.

 Let's see what we can do during the"Grain Buds" period.

A good season for eating

 During the Grain Buds period, summer harvest is about to begin. A saying about rain during this time goes, "A heavy rainfall makes the river full." Because of the great increase in rainfall, rivers are full of water, which makes fish and shrimps big and fat. This is a good time to enjoy them.

 Grain Buds is also a season for eating mulberries(桑葚) and bitter herbs(苦菜) which can cool the blood and remove harmful things from the body.

A key period for flower caring

This time is a good period of the quick growth of flowers. It is also a season when plant diseases and pests are the most, which makes growing flowers even harder. Caring for your garden becomes even more important than any other time. If you take good care of them, your plants will be healthier.

 High temperatures and wet days are common during the Grain Buds period. The increase in temperature over this season may make you get skin illnesses easily. It is also important to exercise during the hot summer days. Walking, jogging and practicing tai chi are popular.
