Paper cutting is one of the oldest Chinese traditional skills. People first started paper cutting in the 6th century. Scissors and paper are usually u{#blank#}1{#/blank#} in paper cutting. People cut different patterns like animals, plants and Chinese characters for health or good l{#blank#}2{#/blank#}. Zhang Xiufang is an inheritor (传承人) of Yangzhou Paper Cutting. Her works always make a deep i{#blank#}3{#/blank#} on others because she can cut fine patterns without cutting the paper into pieces. A{#blank#}4{#/blank#} she is 81 years old now, she keeps on p{#blank#}5{#/blank#} the skill every day. She hopes this valuable traditional skill can be passed down from generation to generation.

How do you find the street cats in your school? Cat food? At Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), students made on their phone a mini-program(小程序) Beiwai Cats to help students find the cats in their school and get to know them. 

On Beiwai Cats, every cat on the eastern campus ( 东 校 园) of the university has an"ID card". The cards show the cats' photos with information(信息), like what the cats look like, where to find them, whether(是否) they like people. Cat lovers can even adopt the school cats to give them a home on Beiwai Cats. 

Zhou Hengxiao, 20, helped make the mini-program. He said it is good for both the students and the cats. With the"ID cards", students can learn more about the cats. If students know the cat is afraid of people, they will be more careful not to touch(触碰) it. So the cat may not get scared so often and the students are less likely to get scratched(被抓伤). 

Zhou's group are working on platforms like Weibo, Bilibili and Xiaohongshu to make more people know Beiwai Cats. "When we make money from these platforms, we can use the money to buy more food for the cats, "he said. 

Zhou said they hope to help more street cats on Beiwai Cats. "We don't have much money, but we want to do our best to give these small lives a home, "said Zhou.

"For most of the young people, {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(wear) the skirt is not just for fashion."said Mao, one of the Hanfu lovers. "It is a way that we remind {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(we) of the value of the Chinese culture. We also want to tell the world how much we are proud {#blank#}10{#/blank#}China."

 You don't need money for this vending machine(自动售货机), and it also won't give you any food like chocolates, chips or cola. What you' ll get from the vending machine is a book. First graders at A. M. Kulp Primary School were the first to try out the new machine. It was installed(安装) at the school during the third week of February 2024.

 Alyssa Nedorezov— the librarian, the person who works in the library, has been dreaming of this for about a year. She always wants to help students read. She says when students read both in and out school, it will greatly help with the students' reading and make it easier for them to keep a reading habit. Students like getting anything from a vending machine. Alyssa Nedorezov thinks it is fun for kids to get books there. So they will be really interested in reading and fall in love with it.

 Here's how it works. When students do something good, their teachers give them something called" cat paw". Then they can change their cat paws into the vending machine tokens(代币). The token works in the vending machine, and students can choose any book to take home to read for some time or keep forever.

 What if there is such a machine in your school in the future?

A recent study in a British medical magazine shows that many kinds of foods we enjoy, such as chips, cookies, and ice cream, are all ultra-processed (超加工的). What are ultra-processed foods(UPFs)? In short, we can't re-create them in our kitchen. They are usually made in factories. They have long lists of additives (添加剂)— some we may never have heard of.

 The study shows that people may strongly crave such food. We usually can't stop eating it, or we may feel sad. But why do UPFs make us want to keep eating them all the time? Usually, natural foods are either high in sugar or high in fat. UPFs, however, are usually high in both. It makes us feel happier and want to eat more.

 It is said that 14 percent of adults and 12 percent of children crazily love UPFs. However, they cause problems to people's health around the world. Eating too many UPFs will lead to poor diet and increase the risks of serious illness. For example, UPFs lovers are more likely to get heart disease and certain cancers.

 Governments are taking action right now. Some governments put taxes (税) on sugary drinks to make them more expensive, so fewer people will buy them. This idea can be used on the UPFs as well. Besides, in order to let people know the dangers of UPFs, these kinds of companies arc required to print out the additives on their products. Finally, governments are asking companies to use less unhealthy additives in UPFs so that the food can be made healthier.
