A Frenchman went to New York to take a holiday. He didn't know a word of English. When he arrived in New York, he took a bus to a hotel. 

It was a sunny day. The Frenchman went out for a walk. When he went along the street, he thought he must remember the name of the street. On the wall near the street, he saw some English words. He wrote them down in his notebook. "Now I know the name of the street," he said to himself. "It will be easy for me to get back to the hotel. "

He walked for a long time in the city. Then he felt tired and wanted to go back to his hotel. He took the notebook out of his backpack and showed the words to a young woman. The young woman read the words and looked at the Frenchman. She didn't know what he wanted. 

Then the Frenchman stopped an old man and showed him the words. The old man didn't know what the Frenchman wanted, either. 

At last, the Frenchman saw a young man. He knew some French. When the Frenchman showed him the words and asked where the street was, the young man laughed, because the words in the notebook read: One-way street(单行道). 

We all know that family life is very important for a person. If a kid is well treated by his parents, he will grow up happily. Bob Courtright is a good example. Deeply committed to his family, Bob Courtright will be remembered as a loving and selfless man forever. Born with an optimistic personality, he was always the one to look on the bright side and made everyone he met feel comfortable. Equipped with a set of skills, an ability to please others, and a strong sense of adventure, Bob lived his life to the fullest. He left behind a rich collection of wonderful memories for his friends and family.

Bob's life story began in 1937 when the Golden Gate Bridge opened, which gave Americans renewed pride and faith in the economy after a hard period at that time. Having moved several times during his childhood, his family eventually settled on the south side of their city.

With a strong desire to make a living on his own, Bob eventually dropped out of school to pursue（追求）a career in painting, leading him to a lifetime of success as a master painter and tradesman. He also served as a doctor in the army. Besides, he took an interest in roller skating and enjoyed competing as a roller skating dancer. He made many friends along the way and enjoyed filling each of his days to the fullest.

As a father, Bob was patient and supportive. He enjoyed his role as a father and always encouraged his children to lead a life of honesty and service.

He also tried hard to be a strong role model in their lives. He and his wife worked together to teach their children the value of hard work and faith in life.

When I was very young, people in our village lived by planting fruit trees. My grandmother always took me to the orchard(果园)on the hill. At that time, they had to carry water from the river at the foot of the hill to halfway up the hill. Even though we worked so hard, the production level of fruit was still low because it was short of water there.

One day, two young men led a group of workers to our village. They learned about the difficulties we faced, and later, canals and other projects began to be built in my village."Who are they? "I asked."They are good men from our government," my grandma replied.

Shortly afterwards, I moved to another city for my junior high school. The only reason I ever came back to my hometown was my grandmother.

One day, my family and I made time to return. We were surprised because everything had changed. The canal ran past every orchard so villagers didn't have to go up and down the hill anymore. The river was now so clean that fish swam happily in it. When we arrived home, my grandma took out some fresh pears and apples. She told us that after the water conservation project(水利工程)was completed, a policy(政策)was made to encourage more people to increase the fruit production with clean water in the river.

Thank those good men who have devoted themselves to the development of our countryside. Nowadays,people work hard to live in a big city. However,we should not forget our hometowns where we are from.

Mary had a nice summer vacation last year. She went to Hawaii （夏威夷） in July. Mary likes fruits, and the Hawaiian bananas and oranges were great. The weather was very fine, but sometimes it rained heavily. On Monday she went to the museum. It was an interesting place and not very crowded （拥挤的）. On Tuesday she went to the mountains. On Wednesday she visited an old friend. They went to the movies in the evening. 

The movie was so funny that they laughed again and again. On vacation she felt like that she was a flying bird！The vacation cost （花费） her about 600 dollars, but Mary had a fun time.

We are happy to say that there's a trip to Apple Farm for all the children in Class 2. The trip is on Wednesday. On this trip, your children learn about farm life and have great fun in the open air.

There are lots of animals on the farm. In the morning, the children can feed the hens and the ducks. They can also see the cows, horses, and sheep. Then the farmer, Mr. James, teaches the children about life on the farm and about where food comes from. In the afternoon, at about 2 o'clock, the children can also ride in his big tractor（拖拉机）. This is always very popular.

We are traveling by school bus. The bus goes at 9 o'clock, so please don't be late. Please bring lunch boxes and drinks. Also bring boots, as the farm can be muddy（泥泞的）! It's also sunny at the farm, so bring a sun hat, too. We will be back to school at about 4:00 p. m.
