Have you ever been sad because you failed in something? If so, please remember achieving(实现) what you expect(期望) is not the most1 thing.

One day after watching a science program, a little boy 2 to dig a deep hole behind his house. As he was working, a couple of boys stopped to watch. "What are you doing?" asked one of them. "I want to dig a hole all the way through the 3 !" the boy answered excitedly. The older boys laughed and told him that it was 4 to do it. Then they left.

The little boy kept on digging and digging. Suddenly, a few small colorful stones caught his eyes.

Last month，calls were made to raise the taxes for sugary drinks. This shows growing worry over the amount of sugar that kids are taking in through cola，juices and other beverages（饮料），a new study has found that one in five children did not drink any water on a given day﹣and that those kids took in more calories（卡路里）from sweetened beverages than kids who did drink water. 

The study surveyed on 8，400 children across the country between the ages of 2 and 19. Researchers found that around 20 percent of children are reported drinking no water throughout the day. And they took in almost twice as many calories than kids who did drink some water. Overall，the children drank 132 calories of colas and other sugary beverages per day. That number dropped to 112 calories if they drank any water. But kids who didn't drink any water at all took in an average of 210 calories from sweetened drinks. 

This can cause a lot of problems. "Those calories don't provide much nutrition （营养） and they can add up，" according to professor Asher，sugary drinks have been linked to a number of diseases，such as childhood obesity，dental problems and high cholesterol. "I've seen 6﹣year﹣olds with high cholesterol and teenagers with Type 2 diabetes，" said Natalie

"Kids should take in water every single day，and the first beverage choice for kids should be water，" according to Natalie. "Because if they're not drinking water，like sugar﹣sweetened beverages，that are less healthy and have more calories. " Adults should take up their responsibility to encourage kids to drink water so that they don't take in something less healthful. And things need to be done to ensure childhood health. 

In China, the Spring Festival is a big event. I spent it in a special way last year. So I had{#blank#}1{#/blank#} very nice winter holiday last year.

On the Spring Festival, I went to Mount Tai with my parents for the {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(one) time. Mount Tai isn't very high,{#blank#}4{#/blank#} it's very beautiful. We could still see many different kinds of green trees there. Of course, a lot of trees had few {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(leaf). We climbed up the mountain. When we {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(arrive) at the top of it, we saw some snow there and the wind blew {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(strong). . It was very cold. At that time, we {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(hear) beautiful music from a restaurant. When we went in, we saw a lot of people there. Then we had some rice and chicken there. 

Happy time always went fast. When we got back home, it was 9:00 p. m. We enjoyed{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(our) that day. We were {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(tire) but happy. 

 The class in America is almost the same as that in China. But something is different. 

 In America, if the teacher asks you a question but you don't understand, you should put up your hand and ask the teacher to repeat it. If you don't know the answer, it is all right to tell the teacher that you don't know. Then he or she knows what you need to learn. 

 You mustn't be absent on a test day. If you' re seriously ill, call and let the teacher know you will not be there for the test. If your teacher allows make-up test, you should take the test in one or two days after you go back to school. 

 Be on time! It is impossible to be late. If you come in late, be sure to do it quietly. Take your books out of your bag after you enter the room. Then go to your seat and sit down quietly. In the US, you needn't knock before you come into the classroom. 

 If you have to leave during the class, do it quietly, too. There is no need to ask for the teacher's agreement(同意). 

 Mr. and Mrs. George and Olivia Ransom bought an old house, and were spending time fixing it up. The walls needed painting and the wooden floorboards(地板) needed replacing.

 One day, they pulled (拉) up some old floorboards and were surprised to see a case under the floor. They pulled it out, dusted it off and opened it. It was full of old newspapers from the year1977. George and Olivia were interested to read the news stories at that time. But as they took the newspapers out, they noticed a black box at the bottom of the case. It was locked.

Then Olivia remembered that there were some old things in the kitchen. There was a cup with old keys in it. She ran to get the cup, took out the keys and tried them in the lock. One of them opened it!

 The box was full of jewellery (珠宝). There were necklaces and rings of silver and gold. Olivia and George were amazed. Who put the jewellery there, and why? Who did it belong to?

 George remembered a story in the old newspapers. He quickly found it again and they read it together.

"That name— Jensen, said George. "It's familiar to me— why?"

"It's the old lady who sold the house to us!" replied Olivia. "Her name was Mrs Jensen. She told us her husband died in 1978 and he was a jeweller."

"That's strange," said George. "I wonder, was there really a jewellery theft? Or did Stanley Jensen hide the jewellery under his own house? But why...?"
