Are you nervous when you stand in front of the public? Are you 1 to make a speech(演说;讲演)? Li Jun, a middle school student, felt shy 2 he was making a speech the other day. Li had thought it would be quite easy to speak in front of3 classmates.

"I was wrong. It was very different and much 4 than talking to my classmates during playtime,"Li said."I tried, but it was really difficult to speak. I felt like a mute(哑巴) and wanted to leave the classroom 5 ."Li is not alone. Many middle school students now have the same6 as Li. After class, most of them can7 their ideas freely with their best friends. But they8 speak well in public. According to Zhou Hong, a teacher from a university, the main reason is that schools in China pay more attention to writing than 9 .

Sam hated doing chores. And he had many chores. For example, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays he took out the trash. And on weekends he always washed his father's car. He also cleaned his own room once a week. What a chore that was! Sometimes he even had to (1) look after his little sister and brother.

Sam had a foreign friend at school. His name was Kumar. Doing chores in Kumar's family was very different. In the house only the girl did chores. His sisters made all the beds and cleaned all the rooms too, even his bedroom. His mother always cooked the meals, and his sisters help her to go shopping, and prepare(准备) the food. They worked hard at home, doing all the chores with their mother.

So when Kumar talked to his friend Sam about chores, he felt very lucky. One day, Sam had an idea. He asked Kumar, "Could I borrow your sisters?" He wanted them to help him clean his room, but (2) they said "no". Instead, they asked Sam to teach their brother how to do chores, so he could make his own bed.

Sam and Kumar were very good at science. They were going to be scientists after university. They wanted to make a robot to do the chores. Then everyone—mothers and fathers, sons and daughters—would be happy!

One day,I was walking home from school and saw some 1 on the fence (栅栏) of a house.

It said "Happiness is a direction not a place." I was having a bad day but it became a little 2 after reading this. I also took out a pen and wrote one of my favorite quotes (格言) down at once.

When I came back to the 3 the next day, I saw another quote under mine in the  4 as the first one, I added another, so we kept on 5 for quite a while. One day, I was writing another quote on the fence and the old man, one of my neighbors, who  6 the fence, saw me. He came out and I was afraid he would be  7 for writing on his fence; everyone in my

neighborhood knew he was known to be very 8 . He gave me a look of coldness and seriousness and then read the quotes. He then went back inside 9 saying a word to me. I was even uneasier and 10 to go back to the fence. But when I did, I  11 no more quotes but two words in completely different handwriting had been added, "12 ".

Later, I saw the old man in his front yard. 13 , he called me over and told me how my quotes on the fence  14  him, how he thanked me and how he was glad to see young people still have "Values". We are now good friends and I talk to him a lot. This  15 has changed my life. I still don't know who wrote these quotes, but if he is out there, I'd also like to say thanks to that unknown friend.

Jordyn Perez is an American girl. Jordyn was about to turn eight years old when her mother advised her {#blank#}1{#/blank#} her birthday in a new way. "How about donating（捐赠） your gifts to a children's hospital?" her mom asked. 

Jordyn thought about the idea. She already had everything {#blank#}2{#/blank#} she needed. Children in hospital were going through some real difficulties. They {#blank#}3{#/blank#} needed gifts more than she did. "Okay, that sounds cool," she finally said. 

Now Jordyn is in high school, but she has continued to bring {#blank#}4{#/blank#} to kids in hospital. Last Christmas, her eighth yearly gift donation {#blank#}5{#/blank#} . It was for a children's hospital in San Antonio, Texas. 

Children can be in hospital for lots of {#blank#}6{#/blank#} . But whatever the illness, a hospital stay can be stressful. Efforts like Jordyn's are a bright spot during a difficult time. 

Jordyn's gift-giving project begins each year in November. When she invites her friends to her birthday party, each {#blank#}7{#/blank#} includes a list of gift ideas for kids in hospital. Jordyn also shares the list with her family and her school volleyball coach and teammates. With {#blank#}8{#/blank#} help, the number of donations "grows every year," she says. Then, it's time to share the gifts with the children in hospital. "These gifts put smiles on the faces of these little patients. That's the {#blank#}9{#/blank#} thing I've ever cared about," Jordyn says. 

Jordyn has also encouraged others to follow in her footsteps. Some of her friends {#blank#}10{#/blank#} a and donated gifts for their birthdays so far. "It just makes you feel good to give to others," Jordyn says. "I want to keep doing this as long as I can."

My life at school is always wonderful. In the {#blank#}1{#/blank#} grade, my school life becomes more exciting. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} all the subjects I study, science is my favourite. We learned about a great invention that changed the way people travelled. In history class, we talked about how cities grew and how {#blank#}3{#/blank#} people moved to them for work. After classes, the {#blank#}4{#/blank#} school takes part in different activities. Some students play sports, while others enjoy {#blank#}5{#/blank#} meetıngs in clubs. The school offers us lots of new chances to have great fun.

Lion dance is a traditional Chinese art form. It 1 during festivals and is believed to bring good luck. 

Many young people start 2 lion dance because of a strong interest in it. Liu Jianyong, born in Foshan, decided to learn lion dance at the age of 10. Now he is the 3 performer in a famous group. In order to follow 4 dream, he trains so hard that he spends almost all his time in training. Although it's easy to get hurt, he never thinks 5 giving up. Finally, his hard work paid off. He won 6 prize with his partner in a national competition. 

Li Xiaorong also 7 lion dance and runs after her dreams. She is one of the 8 of lion dance. Though she doesn't perform the difficult movements, she can still play the drums during a performance.

The young lion dancers also put short videos online to let more people know 9 lion dance is like. These videos give the world a fuller picture of lion dance. 

The young dancers are proud: of what they are doing. As they dance 10 , the young dancers themselves are writing up their own stories of bravery and growth.
