I started playing the piano when I was about eight or nine. But when I got to university, I stopped playing it. I just didn't have enough time and there were so many other things to do.

"To see the world, things dangerous to come to, to see behind walls, to draw closer, to find each other and to feel. That is the purpose of life." These words come from my favorite movie, Daydreamer. They are always kept in my mind. The movie, directed by Brahman Turner, taught me to live my own life and to do something 1 . Inspired by the movie, I started to learn skateboarding last summer vacation.

The first 2 are always the hardest. I still remember the first day. The 3 was not great. I fell over again and again. I found skateboarding was a(n) 4 sport for beginners because you may fall over many times like I did. But falling cannot be 5 for anyone. I wore a helmet and protective gear(装备) to help keep safe. I practiced all day until sunset that day. For the next few days, I practiced hard every day. I knew that practice makes perfect. And 6 , I could skateboard. I was so proud of that.

However, as I 7 with my hobby, I met quite a few challenges. I still practiced hard for the rest of that 8 , though made little progress. Unluckily, I hurt my knee. When the summer vacation was over, I had to return to school. But I knew I would 9 skateboarding again later because it is fun and brings me joy.

People all over the world celebrate the new year. On New Year's Day, many children make wishes for the new year. The following are some children talking about their wishes. 

I'm Xu Hui, 13, from Shanghai. I am an outgoing girl. I really hope that I can make friends with some boys in my class. I have many friends, but they are all girls. Also, I am not good at math. I want to improve it. 

My name is Zhao Yujie, a 14-year-old girl, from Jiangsu. My biggest wish is to volunteer more. I want to help homeless children and old people. I think it's important for us to bring laughter and warmth to others. 

I am Li Langjing, from Fujian. I am 14. I am a boy who likes sports. I want to take more trips with my friends. Especially, I hope I can go to Xinjiang and Taiwan. I really want to climb the beautiful Tianshan Mountains in Xinjiang and taste delicious snacks in Taiwan. 

I'm a 15-year-old boy, Ma Yue. I come from Beijing. My new year's wish is to get a ticket to a Scorpions (蝎子乐队) concert. They are a German rock band. I love their metal music. They will have a concert in February. I don't want to miss it. 

Shashiyu was once a poor village in Hebei Province, but now it has changed into a rich and livable place. 

In the 1940s, villagers in Shashiyu had little food and few clothes, but they had a strong wish for a better life. The Party secretary of Shashiyu encouraged his villagers to do their best to pull themselves out of this poor living condition. "In the ancient Chinese story, Yu Gong could move mountains with his strong will and hard work, why can't we? Nobody was born to be poor. " Hearing his words, the villagers decided to make a difference. 

Led by the Communist Party of China, the villagers carried water and soil to their village from faraway places to improve their land. From 1966 to1971, they reclaimed(开垦) lots of land and greatly improved their lives. 

However, the village faced a new problem 20 years later as the environment became heavily polluted by chemical plants and mine refineries(精炼厂) built in 1990s. The polluting factories were shut down in 2004, and villagers started grape planting, which soon became a main industry in Shashiyu. 

In 2009, the city- level government invested(投资) over 1 million yuan to change the village's exhibition hall into a museum in memory of development efforts made by earlier generations. 

After 10 years, the village was called"National Forest Village". 

The Party secretary said that the village has started a yearly tourism festival since 2015 to attract travellers to pick grapes. "The grapes could be sold at a better price once Shashiyu becomes famous through this festival. Our villagers can then live a even better life, " he said. 

Mr and Mrs Mallard are looking for a place to live.1 every time Mr Mallard finds what looks like a nice place, Mrs Mallard says it is not good. 

One day, they get to a new city. "2 at the lake in the Public Garden. And there is a(n)3 in the centre of the lake," Mrs Mallard shouts. "It's my place. We can 4 the night on the island." Mr Mallard agrees with her. 

Next morning, they are swimming in the lake to look for 5 when a boat with many people comes. Some people throw small pieces of  6 into the water, so the Mallards have a nice breakfast. "I 7 this place," Mrs Mallard says as she climbs out of the water and has a break on the grass. 8 , a boy riding a bike passes by and he nearly hits (撞到) Mrs Mallard. "So  9 ! The place won't be good for our baby ducks. We must 10 here," Mrs Mallard shouts. 

Finally, they find the Charles River. "That island in the river looks like a quiet place to hatch (孵化) ducks. It's far away from the 11 city," Mr Mallard says. They choose soft bushes (灌木丛) near the water to12 the nest (窝). Finally, Mrs Mallard produces 8 eggs and the baby ducks ha tch out. 

All day long, Mrs Mallard teaches her babies 13 to swim. She teaches  14 to walk in a line near the island. And she also tells her babies to come back  15 hearing her voice. Mrs Mallard is very busy, but she likes her life.
