Several years ago, the United Nations（the UN）issued（发行） a set of stamps celebrating poetry（诗歌）from around the world. The purpose was to show the important role poetry plays in shaping a nation's culture. For the Chinese stamp, the organization chose Li Bai's Thoughts on a Tranquil Night. For me, it was the perfect choice. I was moved by the feelings that everyone in the world could share: loneliness, homesickness and admiration for beauty and the wonders of nature. 

That poem was written more than 1, 300 years ago during the Tang dynasty. There were so many poets at that time. Li Bai seemed to be friends with most of them, including Gao Shi, Du Fu, Wang Changling and Meng Haoran. Those of you who have watched the film Chang'an probably know that, although being separated, these men knew each other's work and always tried to keep in touch. And, in a sense, they felt connected by a common goal—to do something useful for their country. 

Culture does serve the nation. It is the foundation（基础）on which a nation is built. It provides a nation with its values and spirits. The Chinese appreciate beauty, truth and goodness in their own culture as well as in other cultures. If they had lived during the same era, I believe that Li Bai and Shakespeare would have liked each other's poems. I can imagine them drinking, reading and talking about their poems. Shakespeare would have said, "Ah, yours is a lovely culture. I hope it lasts forever." And Li Bai would've said, "My wish for your culture is the same."

In ancient (古代的) China, people have three names: their family names. given names, and courtesy names(字).

Take the famous poet Li Bai as an example. His family name is Li, his given name is Bai, and his courtesy name is Taibai.

People use their given names when they are with their family or friends. And your elders like your grandparents and parents call your given name at home. But in the workplace, people use their courtesy names.

Men usually get their courtesy names when they are 20 years old. Women usually get their courtesy names after they get married(结婚) .

People's courtesy names have something to do with their given names. For example, Zhuge Liang's given name is Liang. It means "bright". His courtesy name is Kongming. And the meaning is "very bright".

Are you ready to clean or grow plants? Would you like to cook some delicious food for your family? Starting from September, students in primary and middle school will have at least one labor(劳动) class every week. 

These classes will help students learn many useful things and make them happy. In these classes, students will try different kinds of work and learn life skills(技能). This is good for their jobs and daily life. They will also learn the meaning of labor and its value (价值). This can help them study harder and get better grades. 

Some schools already have fun labor classes. For example, in a school in Chongqing, kids have a class about catching fish in a pool and learn about their habits. In Fenyi county, Jiangxi, kids learn to make tofu with a millstone. They even eat the tofu they made by themselves. 

Other schools have small farms. Kids can keep small animals like chickens. They learn how baby chickens are born and how to look after them. These activities are interesting for the kids. 

I Imagine that you have woken up on the first day of your vacation. You enjoy a delicious breakfast, take a walk on the beach, and read the morning newspaper as you drink coffee. You are feeling happy and relaxed. But you may start to feel bored by the time the late afternoon comes around!

If you have ever felt like this, you' re not alone. It turns out that having unlimited(无限的) time is not always as great as we expected. What is the best amount(数量) of free time for our happiness?

 Researchers tried to answer this question by surveying tens of thousands of people, collecting data(数据) on how they spent their time and how happy they were. After looking at the data, the research team found that having less than two hours of free time a day was not enough to be happy. People with under two hours of free time a day usually had more stress. It means that they were simply too busy with work to get their happiness.

 The fact that being too busy cuts happiness is true. It might lead to the answer that more free time is simply better. Surprisingly, having a lot of free time is not a panacea(灵丹妙药) for happiness. People surely get a certain sense of joy from finishing tasks. Having more than five hours of free time a day makes us lose the sense of joy. It is in fact cutting our happiness. But I think it is how we spend our free time that makes a difference. When free time is used in more active ways, like playing a team sport, then five or more hours a day can keep or even produce happiness. However, spending five or more hours of free time alone can stop happiness.

①Playing a sport well may not be easy at first, but don't worry--you can do it! The following are some tips for you.

②      ▲       If you don't know what sport you like to play, try a few! The P. E. class is usually a great chance to try new sports.

③Get the right equipment. You can ask your parents for help. For example, you can ask your parents to buy you a pair of soccer shoes by doing housework for two months for them.

④Practice, practice and practice. Practice playing your favorite sport with your friends as much as you can. If you don't have anyone to play with, then practice by yourself. Sometimes you may get the chance to make new friends when you play.

⑤Eat healthily. A healthy body is very important in playing sports. Stop eating hamburgers and ice cream. Try to eat a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables. Stop eating high-calorie foods like chocolates or cakes. Try to eat some healthy foods like carrots or apples.

⑥Watch games. Watch games to see how the players play. The more games you watch, the more you will know about the sport.
