 阅读理解

Alex set his lunch tray on the table near his friend Leo. "Trade you some fries for some pretzels" Alex said.

"Deal," said Leo, taking his bag of pretzels out of bis lunchbox.

Alex noticed a folded piece of paper at the bottom of Leo's lunchbox.

"What's that?" asked Daniel, another boy in their class.

Before Leo could answer, Daniel grabbed the paper. He unfolded it and read in a loud voice: "Dear Leo, I hope you have a great day. Love. Mom."

Daniel snorted. "Your mom puts notes in your lunchbox?"

"Yes," Leo said.

Daniel read the note again, to himself. It almost looked as if he wanted to keep it.

"Give it back to Leo," said Alex.

"Well, who wants a note anyway?" Daniel said.

"I do," said Leo.

Alex liked getting notes too.

Daniel tossed the note and it fell to the floor.

Alex picked it up. He handed it back to Leo, who put it into his pocket.

On the bus that afternoon, Alex thought about what had happened.

Alex's older brother, Mateo, arrived home just after Alex did. "How was your day, little dude?" Mateo asked.

"A boy in my class was mean to Leo," Alex said. He explained the way Daniel had acted.

Mateo shook his head. "How would Daniel like it if people picked on him for getting a note?"

"Daniel never gets notes," Alex said. Suddenly, he had an idea. "That's it! I know how to help Leo and Daniel."

Alex explained his idea to Mateo. Mateo agreed to help, and they worked on the plan all afternoon.

At lunchtime the next day, Alex hurried to the cafeteria. He set out 23 folded pieces of paper on a table by the entrance. Each piece of paper had the name of a classmate on it.

"What are these?" asked Mira.

"We all have notes," said Sabrina.

Alex watched as Daniel picked up the note with his name on it. Alex knew that the note said Daniel,  ▲  Have a great day.

Alex saw Daniel smile as he put the note into his pocket.

"Great idea, Alex," said Leo.

"Now everyone knows how it feels to get a lunch note," Alex said.

Thanks to its rich history, the Palace Museum is home to over 1.86 million cultural relics(文物). However. there aren't enough exhibition spaces for them. It's said that only 10,000 cultural relics can be shown to the public each year. That's why the Palace Museum decided to build a new branch.

The plan to build a branch in the north of the museum was first made in 2013. After years of preparation, the building work finally started in 2022 December. The branch is located in Xiyuhe,a village in Haidian District, Beijing. It's over 30 kilometres away from the Palace Museum, about an hour's drive.

With an area of more than 100,000 square metres, the northern branch will have an exhibition space of 60,000 square metres for cultural relics and over 35,000 square metres of restoration space. More than 20,000 to 30,000 relics could be shown in the new branch every year, and it will offer larger and better-equipped spaces to objects like silk pieces, which require greater attention.

"We'll have a much larger space to meet people's expectations and improve our ability to show ancient Chinese civilization(文明),"Mr. Wang, director of the Palace Museum, said in an interview. The new branch is expected to open to the public in 2025 and further meet the different needs of the public in the near future.

"We are going to build the branch into a museum inheriting(继承) ancient classics and leading the future at the same time, "said Mr. Zhang, chief architect(首席建筑师) of the new museum. It's believed that both the Palace Museum and the new branch will protect and carry forward the fine traditional Chinese culture. The completion of the new branch will provide new development space for the Palace Museum, making Beijing the national cultural centre and a "City of Museums".

The opening ceremony(开幕式) of the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou was held on September 23nd,

2023. People could see the electronic fireworks (烟花) in the night sky above the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Stadium. It showed us beautiful pictures, the latest technologies and environmental thoughts.

" The electronic fireworks paid attention to environmental protection," said Sha Xiaolan, the director of the opening ceremony." As long as fireworks are set off, there will be smoke in the air. It will cause pollution. Compared with normal fireworks which we usually set off, electronic fireworks never produce smoke and noise."

Why did they use this kind of fireworks? Because they were ' green', and Sha Xiaolan hoped to show environmental protection to the world. It did not mean there would be less excitement of the opening ceremony. According to the digital technology, 3D pictures, AR technology and more, the electronic fireworks have left a deep thinking on the people." People have rich feelings while they are watching the fireworks. Today is the first time I have seen electronic fireworks, and they are very eye- catching." He told China News reporters.

" High technologies helped produce environmental- friendly fireworks," Sha said." The research team designed fireworks with 3D technology. Then they did many experiments so that the fireworks had the best show without pollution."
