②A new study from the University of Oxford has looked into the health and environmental influences of 15 foods common in western diets．Among these, plant－based(基于植物的)foods included fruits, vegetables, nuts and potatoes．It also studied animal－based foods, including red meat, chicken, milk products, eggs and fish．

③According to the study's lead researcher, Michael Clark, "Choosing better and greener diets is one of the main ways people can improve their health and protect the environment．" That is to say, plant－based diets are much healthier for us and kinder to the environment．

④To get this result, researchers compared the influence of eating another portion(一份)of each food with the increased risk of a few illnesses．They also find out the environmental harm for each animal－based food and each plant－based food．

⑤By using this method, the study found that red meats were the most unfriendly foods to the environment．Keeping farm animals produces a large number of methane(甲烷)that keeps 30 times more heat than CO₂ ． As well as making the earth warmer, eating too much red meat is known to increase the risk of a few illnesses, such as heart trouble．

⑥Plant－based diets can give us the same health benefits in a much greener way．According to the study, without eating or using meat and milk products, global farmland use could be cut down by more than 75% and still feed the world．

⑦Speaking to the Guardian,Tim Benton of Chatham House said, "If we can give people reasonable official advice of what a healthy and green diet is, the world and its people would be in a much better place．"

Taipan Village is a small, mountainous community in the Guizhou Province of Southwestern China. What's special is that this village, home to fewer than 1,200 residents, has become a hot topic on the internet due to its vibrant(活力满满的) basketball competition, often referred to as "Cun BA. "

Since 2020, local farmers in the area have found a fun way to celebrate their successful harvests(丰收): basketball games. The rules of "Cun BA" require that players be local male farmers aged 18 to 35. This means you'll see people with all kinds of day jobs like raising cows, growing wheat, and selling vegetables competing on different teams. These farmers started their own basketball league, comprising a total of 198 teams.

Classic books never go out of fashion. The Outsiders first came out in 1967. Even though the book is old, it is still worth reading. It is written by the US writer S. E. Hinton. 

The book tells the story of a 14-year-old boy called Ponyboy Curtis. He struggles with right and wrong in a society where he believes he is an outsider. The story took place in Oklahoma, the US, in the 1960s. 

In the book, the children are divided into two groups. One includes Curtis and Greasers, which is mostly made up of poor kids. They have longer hair and often smoke at a young age. The other group is called the Soes, which is made up of rich children. They wear expensive clothes and drive high-tech cars. Those two groups do not get along well. 

I was touched by the friendship among the boys. When any of them had a problem, the others would help. Although they are not well educated(教育), they are kind and brave. For example, when Johnny was hurt and in hospital, his friends visited him almost every day. They brought him food and told him interesting stories. I always dreamed of having kind and strong friendships like this. 

This book shows the beautiful personalities(人格) of those ordinary people. I advise that teenagers read this book and I hope they can enjoy it. 

Doorbells are the bells（铃）for people to ring at a door. When someone hears it, he or she can open the door. Do you know that you can ring a doorbell for fish, too?

Every spring, millions of fish migrate（洄游）along the river in the city to find better places to lay eggs. But in the river, there are many locks（水闸）. They stop fish from swimming through. Weerd Lock is in Utrecht, the fourth largest city in the Netherlands. When fish get there, they have to wait a long time before the lock opens for boats to pass through. The lock keeper there is glad to open the lock for fish, but he cannot tell when fish want to get through. So in 2021, Mark a scientist, came up with a good idea to help solve this problem— by using the fish doorbell.

Under the water near the lock, there's a camera. People from around the world can visit a website to see fish through the camera. When you see a group of fish waiting, you can ring the doorbell on the screen. And when the lock keeper notices it, he will open the lock for the fish.

①Lake Victoria is the largest lake in Africa and the second largest freshwater lake in the world. Lake Victoria not only is beautiful but also provides a source(源头) of water, food and power for several African countries. However, the lake has been polluted seriously. People there worry about the problem and take action to protect it. James Kateeba is one of them.

②James Kateeba lives in Uganda, a country next to Lake Victoria. His job is to show tourists around Uganda. He found that during the rainy season, there is a lot of plastic waste floating(漂浮) on Lake Victoria. It not only pollutes the environment but also influences the local fishing industry(工业). 

③James Kateeba wanted to do something for Lake Victoria. Mr. Kateeba watched some fishermen building boats. Suddenly, he came up with an idea. He decided to make his own boat. And his boat is not like traditional wooden boats. His boat is made of recycled things, and it became a recycling project later.

④In 2007, James asked fishermen to collect plastic bottles for some money. They tied the bottles to nets(网) to make a special boat that could float on the water. Mr. Kateeba put soil over the bottles and built a garden. Then he added the board. Tourists like his boat for its rich plants, food and drinks. Today, the boat, marketed(营销) as the Floating Island, can comfortably serve 100 visitors at a time.

⑤Mr. Kateeba isn't the only one who wants to clean up. Local environmental workers also offered money to fishermen to collect all the bottles they caught in their nets.
