Bob likes to play sports, but he doesn't have any sports things.{#blank#}1{#/blank#} He wants to buy a basketball, a volleyball and two pairs of ping-pong bats. He goes to the sports store. The basketballs are $ 10, volleyballs are $ 9 and ping-pong bats are $ 5 for a pair.{#blank#}2{#/blank#}Then he buys a basketball, a volleyball and two pairs of ping-pong bats.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}And then he wants to buy a soccer ball.{#blank#}4{#/blank#}He thinks it's too expensive(贵的).

"I want it for $ 12. Is that OK?" says Bob to the salesman(销售员).

{#blank#}5{#/blank#} So he buys the soccer ball, too. He is very happy.

Fleming saw many soldiers die from infections (感染) in their wounds as he worked in a hospital during World War I. This made Fleming decide to find a way to help the body fight infections. 

In September 1928, Fleming left some glass dishes on a bench in his laboratory for two weeks. When he came back, he noticed something puzzling. Bacteria (细菌) were growing on all the glass dishes except one. On this dish mould (霉菌) had started to grow—the kind found on old bread. The mould seemed to be giving off something that stopped the bacteria from growing. Fleming called it "mould juice". He tried it on other bacteria, and it killed them, too. Fleming became wild with joy and named it penicillin. 

Unfortunately, Fleming's boss thought he was wasting his time and it was impossible to kill bacteria at that time. Fleming did a few more experiments with penicillin, and he also wrote about it so other scientists could learn about it. However, because no one seemed interested in his discovery, he forgot about penicillin and started to work on other things. 

In 1939, Ernest Chain, a scientist, and his boss, Howard Florey, were looking for medicines that could kill bacteria. They discovered Fleming's notes and decided to test penicillin. In 1940, they gave penicillin to some sick mice, who survived later. But those who didn't get it died. Florey declared: "It looks like a miracle!" By 1943, the final tests on humans were finished successfully and the world had its first antibiotic (抗生素) medicine.

Alice has a restaurant next to her home. Its name is Alice's Restaurant. It opens（营业）from 10:00 in the morning to 8:00 in the evening. The restaurant is not big, but it's clean（干净的）

David and Mike are cooks in the restaurant. They cook well. David can make（做）delicious Chinese food like jiaozi and fish. Mike makes great hamburgers and sandwiches. A lot of people come to have lunch in the restaurant. So David and Mike are usually busy from 11:00 a. m. to 2:00 p. m. 

Alice is kind to people in the restaurant. Kids like her very much. And the food is very cheap（便宜的）and nice, so many people like the restaurant. 

What makes you laugh? Maybe it's a1 story. For some people it may be spending time just being2 with friends. Maybe you even like to laugh for nothing. People laugh when they think something is funny, but they also laugh when they are happy or excited. 

Ha ha ha! Hee hee hee! Ho ho ho! People laugh in many different3 . Sometimes it's quiet and some-times it's4 . How do you laugh? Do you laugh so5 that your body shakes? Or maybe you sound like a duck. 

People are born to know how to laugh. Babies6 laughing when they are very young. Both the young and the 7 know how to laugh. Even8 can laugh, such as dogs and cats. Laughing is a way to show someone that you are 9 . 

Scientists don't know why people and animals laugh. However, they know that it is difficult to10 . You can try not to laugh when you hear a funny joke, but it might not work. When your body really wants to laugh, it does!

Our family went to the Yellow Stone National Park last summer vacation. Our son, Tom, wanted to see bears there. And what an experience it was!

When we got there, we put up our tent and went to explore（探险）. As we returned, we heard our daughter Susie cry out. And then we saw a bear go into our camp. 

Tom wanted his father to chase（追赶）him away. 

His father said, "No. It's dangerous to chase a bear. And don't let him chase you."

Susie said, "What shall we do? Maybe we should climb a tree."

Tom said, "No. We have to get him out of there. He might go to sleep in our tent."

"Maybe we could make him leave if we put some honey outside for him to eat." Susie suggested. 

Then I said, "How are you going to get the honey? It's in the tent."

We watched the bear go into the tent and heard him upset（翻倒）everything inside. 

"It's foolish for us to try to chase him away." said my husband, "Leave him alone and wait for him to come out."

We waited, but the bear stayed inside. We had to sleep in the car that night.

In May, 16-year-old Alktur Dibat became the youngest Chinese climber to reach the top of Qomolangma (珠穆朗姆峰) . 

The boy is from Urumqi, Xinjiang.  He arrived at the South Base Camp in Nepal on April 15.  He spent 28 days getting used to (习惯) the new place and then started his climb with about 10 other good climbers. 

On May 19, Alktur finally reached the top of the world, breaking the record set last year by Xu Zhuoyuan, a girl from Hunan.  Reaching the top of Qomolangma is my biggest dream.  I feel very happy that I made my dream come true, Alktur said.  During his climb, he sometimes felt terrible, but it didn't stop him from keeping going. 

Alktur is a student at Urumqi No.  13 Middle School.  He started to learn rock climbing at 7, skiing at 8, and ice climbing at 9.  He climbed his first mountain with his father when he was 10.  In July last year, they climbed a high mountain called Muzta Ata in Xinjiang.  In February this year, Alktur climbed Siguni Mountain in Sichuan. 

To climb Qomolangma, Alktur ran 10 kilometers every morning and took special training classes on weekends.  He also took a training class organized by the Chinese Mountaineering Association. 

Alktur now wants to climb the other highest mountains.  He loves the feeling of climbing and wants to keep trying.
