浙江省绍兴市诸暨市2024年5月高三适应性考试试题英语

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

I am the kind of person who is shy and doesn't express himself much among others. I spend a significant amount of time on introspection(内省). I lack the ease to engage in conversations with others. But I find this, on the other hand, can be an advantage.

Once, as a school boy, I wondered if I, such an introverted(内向的) person, would be considered eccentric (古怪的). And I was even afraid that I could possibly get nowhere in my study.

I went to school, where I was just an average student and struggled with shyness. My parents had high expectations, hoping I would finally be able to secure the first position at the end of the sixth grade. However, achieving that was no easy job. Given the keen competition between classmates and my then situation, it was challenging to stand out. I inquired with my friend, Tom, who consistently ranked first, and he revealed that his two aunts had been helping him, providing tutoring support.

Asking for help was never easy for me; my shyness stopped me from seeking assistance. I believed that I had to depend on myself—it was my sole responsibility to learn and educate myself. This mindset surprisingly ignited(激发)a race within me to claim the top position in my class. However, I realized there were barriers on my path--several subjects troubled me. And I understood that achieving the first position would take a couple of years of hard work.

I embarked on(开始) this journey when I was in the fourth grade. Attention focused in class and more time spent after class, I found I was gradually on the right track. By the fifth grade, work on my study was progressing steadily and improvement was obvious. Even Tom showed his surprise or I could say envy. But I knew my performance in writing still needed improving. And I knew, though without additional support, I could count on myself.

注意:

1.续写词数应为150左右;

2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

Scout could clearly remember the night she had to leave her home in Poland. It was the beginning of World War II and her family had to escape as soon as possible. She quickly packed a suitcase with a few pieces of clothing, her diary, and her most prized treasure, a silk scarf. Scout and her best friend, Betty, had persuaded their parents to buy them matching scarves, which they took as a symbol of their friendship. Scout didn't know she was going to America and would not be returning.

Scout kept that special silk scarf for many years. One day she decided to give it to her granddaughter, Eliza, to wear to her first job interview for good luck. Scout was afraid that Eliza would lose the scarf, but the granddaughter promised, "Don't worry, Grandma, nothing's going to happen to your scarf. You'll see that it's going to bring both of us luck." And with that, Eliza kissed her grandmother and left for the interview.

Leaving the interview, Eliza felt confident that she had got the job so she decided to celebrate by going to a restaurant. Sitting at her table, Eliza felt an elderly woman staring at her for a long time.

"I'm sorry. Do I know you?" Eliza asked.

"I'm sorry, dear, but you remind me of my best friend," the old woman replied. "She looked like you and used to wear a scarf just like yours." Eliza listened carefully, with her eyes and mouth wide open. She had heard stories of her grandmother's best friend and knew the meaning of the scarf. Could this woman be Betty, her grandmother's childhood friend?

It was on September 5th, my birthday, that we left Cambridge and moved away. We went to the seaside,to our holiday house, which was now to be our permanent home.

I remember the day was cold and grey, in falling slowly but constantly. My father drove in silence. No one spoke and all we could hear was the sound of the tyres on the wet road When we got to the small house near the sea, my mother quietly started to unpack the few things we had brought with us. Carol, Julie and I went down to the beach. We said we were going to look for crabs in the rockpools but actually, we just wanted to get away from our father and his cold silence.

We climbed along the rocks by the side of the beach. Julie and Carol became interested in some shells they found in one of the pools. I wandered away, lost in my private thoughts. It was my birthday, but no one had said "Happy Birthday" to me. I had not received any cards or presents.

I walked down to the seashore, where the waves were breaking lazily against the muddy sand. Suddenly, I saw something green sticking out of the water. I looked at it more carefully. The green thing moved closer and closer to the shore, and when it was almost near enough for me to touch, I realized what it was.

It was a bottle. I went over and picked it up, all the time looking at it. It seemed old, and had no label on it. Then 1 realized there was something inside. Slowly, I pulled out the wet cork from the top of the bottle. Inside was a piece of paper. With great care, 1 took out the folded paper and opened it.

Written on it were these words:

"To whomsoever finds this bottle, I promise you a new friend."

"No!" screamed Asha as she saw a huge pimple (粉刺) on her nose. She didn't have time to cover the pimple as she was running late to school. She ate her breakfast fast, grabbed her bag and caught her school bus just in time. As soon as she got on the bus, kids started laughing. Nobody was willing to let her sit beside them. Even Anita, her best friend, acted a bit differently, which made her more upset.

Asha was lost in thought. A new thought popped in her mind every second. Once she thought "Great! I have to worry about my pimple as if homework and exams were not enough." The next minute another thought popped in her mind. "I am tired of using this face wash. I still wonder how I agreed to use that thing!" Then suddenly, Mr. Shetty, the bus driver, said, "Asha, do you want to miss the class?" Asha was so lost in her thought that she did not even notice that everybody had got off the bus except her.

She did not want to step into the school campus. She thought, "What will my teachers think? What will my friends think?" After some time, she gathered courage and entered her class, expecting that she would be laughed at. While entering the class, she heard students commenting on her pimple. A child laughed, "Look, someone's cherry is on her nose! Get it for me." She heard some boys murmuring, "She would definitely be chosen as the joker in the dance."

It was a very hard day at school for her. As soon as she got home, she hugged her mother tightly, with tears welling up in her eyes.

I jumped into my mother's car, shut the door and poured out my recent trouble. "Jenny is playing her mind games again. Training is less tiring than dealing with her and her feelings," I complained.

Jenny and I were co-captains of our cross-country team. We'd been training for the coming tournament (锦标赛) for weeks: stretching, running, and making the seven of us into a team. Jenny, with exceptional running talent, always had a way to get ahead of her competitors on the course. She also helped all of us run faster and cheered us on. It seemed that she was anticipating the final show.

However, this week, her attitude shifted. She kept making excuses not to run with the team, from aching legs to headaches. I had to beg her, telling her repeatedly that the team couldn't do without her. It went on all day and I was worn out. What's her deal?

Mom pulled into our driveway, and turned toward me, "Well, I know a little about Jenny. She and her little brother have been together in foster care (寄养家庭). So close were they that every time they moved, Jenny would say that as long as they were together, they had a family." My heart sank as Mom continued, "Jenny's stepfather (继父) came for her brother this week, with gifts, hugs and big plans for their future. But Jenny wasn't even part of his big plans." My chest felt tight. "Poor Jenny, not to have a family." I was close to tears. My mother patted my knee. "That's it, honey. You got it." And I did.

I decided that I should do something. I proposed that we organize a team gathering before the tournament. Each member was to write a heartfelt message for every teammate and prepare a special gift for the one they felt most connected to. I made sure that Jenny would come. It took some persuading, though.

注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
