Yesterday evening, when I went to town with my 1, we met a strange old man. It was raining 2and we had no umbrella. We were trying to get into a taxi when he came up to us. He was carrying a nice 3 and he said he would give it to 4 for only one pound.  He said he had 5 his wallet and he needed taxi fare(费用) to go back home. My mother didn't believe 6 he said at first, and asked him a lot questions. but she finally believed the man and gave him a pound. She was 7 to buy a good umbrella for so little. but the old man didn't get into a taxi. We followed him and found he went into a pub(酒吧) and bought 8a glass of whiskey(威士忌) with a pound. 9he drank it, he put on his hat and took one of the many wet umbrellas there and went off with the new one. Soon after that, he 10 it again.

    Mr. Young has a big shop in the center of the city. He tells all his employees（雇员） to be1 to the buyers and he gets a lot of2. One day an old woman went to the shop to3a silk blouse.     Mr. Young asked him the other questions, and the young man's 14 satisfied him. Before he employed him, he asked him 15 question, "You have no shortcoming(缺点), do you?" "No, I don't, sir. " said the young man. "I only like telling lies.”

    It's very common to meet different people in public places.

    When I was  12 years old, I got a small job in a 1,On my first day at work, I didn't come home for lunch. When I came home at night, Mum asked, “How did you 2 your lunch, dear?" I answered, "I made some new friends in the supermarket, twin brothers, their mom and dad. They were my customers. They invited me 3 lunch."

    Mum was happy that I had made new friends but she wanted to know what kinds of 4they might be.

    Several days later, I asked my friends to come to the supermarket where l worked5let Mum meet them. Mum was very 6 to find out that the twin brothers were joined at the chest（胸部）.She felt very strange because I didn't tell her about that before.

    When Mum asked me about this, I said, "I know that too. But do you know that their mom has to make all clothes because it's 7 difficult to find anything to fit them? They're also good 8  .That day, Joe, the one on the right, made me noodles for lunch."

    When Mum saw the twins, she must have thought how strange they9But to me, what I cared about was that they had difficulty10clothes and they were good cooks.

    My mother told me that when I was born, I was the most beautiful baby in the world. Time passed, and I started to be a 1 and happy girl.

    Then, one day when I was five years old, my life 2 a lot. I had a high fever. The doctor gave me the wrong medicine 3 it brought me a lot of problems with my speech. So I couldn't speak. And the doctor told us I would 4 be able to speak well again or learn another language.

However, my mom couldn't believe I lost my speech. She sent me to a lot of teachers. 5, she found the right teacher, Nina, to help me make my dream come true. She was a very    6 person. She encouraged me and told me that I would speak again. The most amazing thing was that she taught me to read my 7. I'll always remember the beautiful words my mom said to me 13 I was a child and began to learn to speak again." You are fighting in a war. Trust yourself and try your 14, and then you will get a beautiful medal for your success. You will achieve an impossible dream that people say you will never do.     Now when I am going to take every step in my studies and in my life, I try to think about my experience and be a thankful person.

    One hot afternoon, a poor farmer was digging his field. Suddenly, his spade (铲) hit something. It was a big metal 1 which was big enough to boil rice for more than one hundred people. "It does not seem to be of any use to me, I will dig 2. Maybe I will find something else," thought the farmer. He 3to dig. Feeling tired, he threw the spade into the pot and sat under a tree to have a rest. When he got up to leave, he could not 4his eyes. There were one hundred spades in the pot. What a 5 pot!

    After that, he put a mango(芒果) into the pot. Then he found one hundred mangoes in the pot. With that pot, he became a rich man. The King came to know of the pot, and he was very greedy (贪婪的). "I want to find out the 6 of the magical pot. If it is valuable, it should be mine," the King thought. So, at once, he ordered his men to bring the farmer and his pot.

    The King 7the .pot and did not know what to do. He thought, "Let me see what is inside this pot that makes this pot so magical?" He slipped (滑) and 8inside the pot. After climbing up out of the magical pot, he was 9 to find that there were one hundred Kings. All the Kings then 10among themselves and died. This magical pot has killed the King himself!

    Stuart and Steve were twin brothers. Stuart loved to play basketball. But Steve loved to read books.

    One day Stuart was playing basketball 1 he fell and broke his leg. When they took him to the hospital, the doctor said he wouldn't be able to play for six months. Steve went 2 him and brought him books on basketball. At first Stuart wasn't going to read them. Then he began to read them and 3 that there were ways he could play basketball better. He began to think that books weren't 4.

    When Stuart's leg started getting better, Steve would help him by going for walks with him. 5 Stuart's doctor said he could start playing basketball again. Then Stuart showed Steve how to toss(投) for baskets. Steve found that he enjoyed it.
