Bob is an artist. He owns a house in New York. One afternoon when he drives home from work, his three children are playing in the garden. Some of his flowers are broken. The door of his wife's car is open, and the front door of the house is open, too.

    When he walks in the house, his house is messy. In the living room, the TV is on. Toys and clothes are everywhere. In the kitchen, dirty plates and bowls are in the sink(水槽). Breakfast food and dog food are everywhere. A broken glass is under the table.

    Bob runs fast and looks for his wife. He worries about her. Is she sick? He finds her in the bedroom. She is staying in the bed and reading a book. She looks at him and smiles.

    Bob ask, “What's up today?”

    She again smiles and answers, “You always ask me what I do today when you come home.”

    “Yes.” Says Bob.

    “Today I don't do it.” She smiles again.

    In a small village there lived a man. He would do nothing all day but daydream. Whenever he was hungry, he would go out, beg（乞讨）for food, come back and hang out.

    One sunny afternoon, the man was very hungry. With great difficulty, he got up, took out a pot（罐）and went out to beg. By begging the whole day, he finally got a pot of milk. He hung the pot on the ceiling（天花板）, lay down on his bed and started daydreaming again.

   "This pot of milk is going to make me rich, "he thought." I can make butter from the milk. Then I will be able to make ghee（印度酥油）and go to the market and sell the ghee." His dream continued, "With the money I get, I will buy a pair of cows. They will have baby cows. Soon I would have a large number of cows."

   "Then I will continue my business. I will buy come more cows and own a farm. And I will employ people to work on my farm. I can also open a candy shop. I will make candies out of the cows' milk, "the man kept smiling to himself.

   "I am so smart, "thought the man. Lost in his thoughts, he reached out his foot, breaking the pot. He saw the broken pot and cried. He lost whatever he had because he was lazy and spent his time daydreaming.

It's 5 o'clock. SeanMurphy is on his way home from work. He is tired and the bus is full, but whenhe thinks of seeing his lovely family at home, his heart is full of joy again.

"I want to see mywife, my children and my mother," he thinks. "But first of all I wantto sit on the sofa. I want to relax and read a good book."

Finally Mr. Murphy isat home. He is very tired now but he is happy. He says hello to his family.Then he sits down on the sofa, stretches(伸展)hislegs and lifts up his book.

"Now I canrelax," he thinks and smiles. But Mr. Murphy is not alone in the room. Hismother is playing the guitar and his wife is playing the piano. His two youngerchildren are fighting and his two older children are arguing about thetelevision. And the pots and pans are bubbling on the cooker(炊具).

It's the same everyday. Poor Murphy is very unhappy. He talks to his friend about his problem at abus stop.

Mr. Murphy's friendlistens to him carefully. Then he says: "Go and see Linda McCormack! Sheis a very clever woman. She knows the answer to everything."

Mr. Murphy thinks itworth(值得)a try. The next day, whenhe gets home, he doesn't go into the house as usual. He goes to the garage(车库)and gets on his bike.

Jane is from America. She is in China with her parents. Now she is writing an e- mail to her1 back home.
