外研版英语八年级上册Module 1 Unit 3 Language in use单元巩固练习题

阅读下面短文,在空白处填写1个适当的单词或括号内所给单词的正确形式。

"I want to know how to speak English well. can I do?" Bill asks this question like many students do. I ask(he),"How do you learn English?" He (answer),"Only in English class." first thing I will say is, "That is not enough!"

If you want to speak English (good), you have to practise. Speak to friends, classmates, people online or in stores. Speaking is the best way (learn) a language.

In my class I usually ask my students how they feel  speaking English, and they often say "nervous", "scared" or some words like these. The (two) piece of advice I can give is to relax. Don't worry about making (mistake). If you can't think of the right word to use, don't worry about it and just say what you want to say.

Speaking English well isn't just about practising your (speak). It is also important to listen to English. Listening to the English songs and English tapes is helpful.

The fear of the novel coronavirus(新冠病毒) has turned into discrimination (歧视) against certain groups of people, {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(include) people from Wuhan, Chinese people or Asians in general. However, the outbreak of the disease can't be an excuse to isolate these groups. What we should do is {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(get) rid of (消除) discrimination and show sympathy (同情) instead.

Since the outbreak of novel coronavirus pneumonia (NCP), many people {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(live) in fear. This is normal, as the disease is infectious (传染性的) and dangerous. However, some people turn pale at the mention of "people from Wuhan or Hubei province", the center of the outbreak.

Ding Baixing, a doctor at Huashan Hospital in Shanghai, has seen this himself. He treated a suspected (疑似的) patient {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(name)Chen Hui who traveled from Wuhan to Shanghai. Chen appeared desperate (绝望的) and avoided {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(keep)in touch with other patients, as he worried that they would be afraid of him.

Chen is not alone. Chen Xue, an editor {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(work) in Beijing, went to Chongli in Hebei for a ski trip on Jan 23. Though her temperature was fine and she hasn't been to her hometown – Hubei province – since October last year, the hotel she was in told her that it {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(will not) receive Hubei guests from the next day.

However, the real enemy is the virus – not the patients or people from Wuhan or Hubei province. Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong echoed this idea in a speech at the Chinese New Year dinner. "Even though the virus started in Wuhan, it doesn't respect nationality or race (种族). It does not check your passport (护照) before it goes into your body. Anybody can be infected," he said.

It is not the {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(patient) fault that they have been infected. There is no reason to blame them. If patients didn't go to the hospital for fear of discrimination, the virus {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(spread) to more people. "Protecting them is just as important as protecting ourselves," Ding said.

Poem that inspires

At the CCTV Spring Festival Gala (春节联欢晚会), six hosts read a poem to inspire people across the country. It called for greater respect for medical workers, as well as called on everyone to work together to fight the virus. One of the lines – "we isolate (隔离) the virus, but we don't isolate love" – has been {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(wide) posted online.

Bees are truly fascinating insects that we often see flying around gardens or woods. They move from one flower to another and might even come inside our homes. They make the skies of gardens or forests more beautiful.

What does a bee look like? A bee has six legs and two sets of wings on each side of its body. Its body is divided into three parts: the head, thorax (胸部), and abdomen (腹部). Bees have two feelers on their heads called antennaeand two large eyes on each side. They come in different colors and shapes.

Then, are all bees the same? No, they come in different colors and shapes, and there are many different kinds of bees. In Ireland, there are 101 different kinds of bees. However, only honey bees make honey that we eat, while other bees don't make honey at all. There is only one kind of honey bee that lives in Ireland. The places that honey bees live in are also different, including hives (蜂箱), holes and even nests made from leaves.

What does a bee eat? Bees feed themselves with nectar and pollen (花粉), which they collect from flowers. Nectar, a sweet liquid (液体)found in flowers, serves as the primary energy source for bees. Honey bees use it to make honey. Meanwhile, yellow pollen sticks to the bees' hairy legs as they gather food.

Why are bees important? While we enjoy honey as a sweet treat and beeswax (蜂蜡)for candlemaking, bees play a far more important role in our life. Besides, bees are very important to nature because they bring pollen from one plant to another on their hairy legs. Without the hardworking bees, the growth of fruits and crops would be seriously influenced, highlighting their special role in protecting our environment and farming.

With the growth of pet owners as well as the rise of "Its Economy?,pet cafes, a new business model, are becoming increasingly popular across the country.

For Yu Miao, a cat owner in Hangzhou when she chooses a coffee shop, what matters most is whether it is pet-friendly. ‘There are so many coffee shops in Hangzhou. As a cat owner, I sometimes take my cat out, and I would like to choose a coffee shop that allows my cat to be with me in it," she said.

China's first cat-friendly coffee shop opened in Guangzhou in 2011. With the number of animal lovers like Yu growing in recent years, pet-friendly coffee shops are sprouting up like mushrooms after a spring shower. In February this year, there were more than 4,000 pet-friendly coffee shops in China.

With the development of pet ownership market, pet-friendly coffee shops in other cities are also enjoying wide popularity." During weekends, sometimes visitors have to wait in line before being seated. As customers are all here to enjoy themselves with animals, they think the experience is worth the visit.'' said a pet-friendly coffee shop owner in Beijing.

In Shenzhen, Heytea runs a pet-friendly theme store in Xihui city, Luohu District. The theme store meets nearly all the needs of pet lovers and provides them with a fantastic experience.

Pet-friendly coffee shop can be mainly divided into two types. One keeps cats and dogs in the shop and enables customers to play with them. Customers need to pay for admission fees in addition to the costs of drinks and snacks. Taking Shanghai as an example, admission tickets for time- limited cat cafes are from 40 yuan to 200 yuan per hour.
