Muhammad Ali was born in the United States in 1942. Today, many people think he was the most talented boxer in the world. They call him "The Greatest of All Time". However, few people know how he became a boxer. The story is unusual.

When Ali was a little boy, somebody stole his bike. Ali cried and told a police officer. The police officer was also a boxing coach. He asked Ali if he wanted to learn how to box. Ali said yes. He wanted to learn how to box because if he ever met the person who stole his bike, he wanted to beat him up! Ali probably never found his bike, but that was a very important day in his life. It was the day he started boxing.

Ali became very successful right away. He wasn't just strong. He was also very fast and smart. In the 1960 Olympics, he won a gold medal for the USA. After that, he became the heavyweight champion of the world. In total, Ali won fifty-six professional boxing matches, and lost only five.

Ali wasn't just a great boxer. When Ali was the champion, the United States was fighting a war in Vietnam (越南). Many Americans thought the war was wrong. The government tried to make Ali join the army. Ali said no. He thought that the war was wrong, so he didn't fight in it. Ali was punished. He was not allowed to box, and he lost a lot of money. However, he didn't care. He still refused to go to Vietnam. Finally, Ali was allowed to return to boxing. He soon became the champion again.

Muhammad Ali always did the right thing. He stopped fighting more than 30 years ago, but people around the world still love him.

Many people do not like to stay at home on holiday. They want to go on a trip to some exciting places. They want to see something different and do something exciting. So people from the country come to the city and people from the city go to the country for their holidays. During the holidays, trains, buses and planes are all very busy. It is very hard to buy train tickets. Many people take cars for a trip. Last week my family went to the country by car for our holidays. There was too much traffic on the road, so we had to drive very slowly. It took us about an hour to get out of the town. Then we came to a hill. It was green and beautiful. We thought this was a good place for a picnic, so we stopped and took the food, fruit and drinks out of the car. We sat down and began to eat. Suddenly a strong wind blew and soon it started to rain. We had to run back to our car and had our picnic in the car. Then we drove back home. What a bad trip!

 Dad wanted to take us for a trip. We planned {#blank#}1{#/blank#}( travel) to Dali. It's far from our city. So we {#blank#}2{#/blank#}( decide) to go there by plane. It cost us much money, but it's the {#blank#}3{#/blank#}( fast) way to travel. My sister and I felt {#blank#}4{#/blank#}( excite) because it was the first time that we had traveled there.

 We got there {#blank#}5{#/blank#} the evening of September 15th. We felt a little tired. After relaxing in {#blank#}6{#/blank#}( we) hotel for a few hours, my sister and I went out for the evening sightseeing tour. My parents didn't like it, {#blank#}7{#/blank#} they stayed at the hotel.

 On the first day, we took a taxi to Cangshan. The view was wonderful. To remember the wonderful time, I took many {#blank#}8{#/blank#}( photo). We took {#blank#}9{#/blank#} boat on Lake Erhai on the second day. For dinner, we had something special— rice noodles. We never had that before. On the third day, we visited Dali Old Town. Walking around the beautiful town was {#blank#}10{#/blank#} ( real) relaxing.

 The trip was short, but we had a great time in Dali.

①Do you remember the name of your kindergarten teacher? I do, Her name was Mrs. White. 

②I don't remember much about what we learned in her class, but my mother once told me that we used to write a lot. And I would bring back what I wrote and she would look at it and see there were so many mistakes. But no red corrections. And always a star. Sometimes even a Good! That worried my mother a lot, so one day she asked Mrs. White why she never corrected my mis- takes; in spellings of words or pointed out grammatical errors. 

③Mrs. White said, "The children are just beginning to get excited about using words, about forming sentences. I don't want to dampen that interest with red ink. Spelling and grammar can wait. . . "

④She is right! I did grow up learning to use words with loving confidence just like that. I look back now and think she must have been a rather extraordinary teacher— to restrain(限制) her red pen— to allow the joy, wonder and excitement of expression. 

⑤I used to misspell"beautiful" a lot. I never could quite remember that the"e" went before the"a". It annoyed my teacher in high school endlessly. Eventually the"e" and"a" settled into their right places. I am glad I didn't wait on them though. "Pretty" is easier to spell but it doesn't hold as much as you mean sometimes. 

⑥And thanks to Mrs. White I had no concerns about writing what I meant, even if I couldn't quite spell it out. After all, life isn't pretty. It's beautiful.
