At eight o' clock last Sunday morning, I was sitting on the No. 101 bus to go to the zoo when I suddenly saw an old man lying on the side of the street. I told the driver 1 it. The driver stopped the bus. All the passengers (乘客) got off quickly to see 2 happened. A woman next to the old man was shouting for 3 She told us that a car just now hit the old man, 4 it didn't stop.

    Then she said, “Well, boys and girls, I've decided to give a9to the student who got the highest grade. It's 10for me to decide whom I will choose, however, because two students, Donald and Brian, got the 11grade.”

    “Let them share it.” one of the 12said.

    “I've thought about that,” the teacher said, “but I've chosen Brian.”

    Donald was 13when he heard this. He stood up and said, “That's not fair.”

    “That's 14,” the teacher said. “However, Brian's answer to Question 18 was 'I don't know.' Yours was 15do I.' ”

    It was a very hot and dry summer. There was no1all seasons（季节）. The lakes and2dried up, so two frogs（青蛙）went to find some3. The two frogs hopped（跳）all morning, and couldn't find4water. In the afternoon, the two frogs found a deep well（井）. One frog excitedly jumped on to the well（井）5looked inside.

    "Look!" the first frog6,"7is water down there. It looks good. Let's jump in! "

The8frog didn't agree. "No," it said. "9the weather is always dry like this, then the well might dry up, too. We will be stuck（受困的）without water again and won't be able to get out. What will we do10? "

    "You're right," the first frog agreed. "It's always wise（明智的）to think twice（两次）before you jump into something. "

    Ever since I was ten years old, I have decided to do everything on my own though I couldn't really understand them.

    When I was young , I always 1 the summer holiday with my grandfather at the mountain farm in Western Norway (挪威). 2 my grandfather had to work all day himself, he could spare some time for me.

    One day my grandfather said to me, "Come. I have a toy boat for you." I followed him to a workroom 3. However, nothing like that was there 4 a block of wood. "Is that the boat…?" I asked curiously. "No one can give you what you do for 5. With your own hands, you'll make it out of wood. Then it will be the 6 boat in your heart." Finally, I finished it with his help. Seeing the boat 7 in the lake Storvassdal, I felt 8 and thought everything nice around me.

    Good times don't last long. I had to 9 to America. Feeling sad, I hid my boat under a big rock at Storvassdal. Moreover, I didn't know that was the 10 time I saw my grandfather.

    Years later, I returned to the mountain farm with my parents and children. I searched for my boat, but 11. I was about to 12 when I touched something different under a big rock. Luckily, I found the boat which 13 grandfather and me. Holding it, I felt my grandfather was there and we 14 were together again.

    As time went by, each time I held the boat, I carved (刻) the year. My grandfather seemed 15. I went on the last trip to the farm with my grandchildren. High in the mountain, I hope they would understand the importance of the boat and its simple sign of self-reliance (自立).
