There are different opinions about who invented the umbrella. Some people say that the people of ancient Egypt invented it, some say the Romans invented it and some say Luban's wife invented it in ancient China. There's even an interesting story about its invention in China.

Luban was the most famous craftsman(工匠) in ancient China. One day, Luban and his wife were taking a walk and enjoying the beautiful view. Suddenly it began to rain. Both of them were wet when they went back home. Luban's wife said, "If there is something that can protect people from the rain when they are walking outdoors, it will be wonderful." Then Luban said,"That's easy. I will build many pavilions(亭子)." His wife replied, "That's a good idea, but it is not convenient.Is it possible to make a movable pavilion, which could always follow the people?"She thought about it all day and night.

One day, she saw some kids playing in the rain, and each kid held a big lotus leaf over the head to protect themselves from getting wet. That gave her great inspiration. Then, she made the first umbrella in ancient China.

Since the umbrella was invented, it has been part of people's lives in every corner of the world. Right now, there are many kinds of umbrellas, such as beach umbrellas, kid umbrellas and market umbrellas.

How many umbrellas are made every year in the world? Maybe millions or even more. One interesting thing is that most umbrellas in the world are made in China. Shangyu in ZhejiangProvince alone has more than 1,000 umbrella factories and it is called"China's Umbrella City".

I am Lu Xin. I went to Yunnan Province with my parents last summer vacation. We spent a week there. We visited Kunming, Dali and Lijiang. We climbed Kunming Xishan, visited the Stone Forest, went to the Flower Market and went boating on Erhai Lake. We also tasted the delicious food like the crossing bridge noodles. It was really a wonderful trip. And I would never forget it.

I am Ma Yue. Making a trip to Shanghai on May 18 was an experience which I would never forget I arrived in Shanghai at about 2 o'clock, and immediately took a No.5 bus to the sea area. The beautiful blue sea is so large that I couldn't see the other side of it. After getting off the bus, I went straight to the shore. Taking off my shoes, I put my feet into the sea. The sea was cool, and walking in the sea was such a great joy that I didn't want to stop. Then I collected shells. When it got dark, I sat on the shore, watching the sea. The night scene was simply amazing! Finally I had to go back. It was an unforgettable day in my life.

It's always a good thing to have a hobby. For Miss Patty, a school bus driver in Erie County, her 1 of knitting（编织）has made her really touch the community.

Miss Patty always wanted to do 2 in her spare time to help the students. After a 3 with one of the students, things took a turn from knitting one hat to knitting more hats.

Li Yue is a 16-year-old boy from China. In January this year, the young boy reached the{#blank#}1{#/blank#}of the highest mountain in Africa. The boy completed the climb {#blank#}2{#/blank#}his father and thre guides in five hours. 

The climb began early at 2 a. m, and it was still{#blank#}3{#/blank#} at that time. So they had to wear heard lamps to light{#blank#}4{#/blank#} way up the mountain. About one-third of the way up, Li began to feel sick. He slowed down and even fell onto the ground. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}, afer a short break, he decided to keep going. Witha strong will, he got over the dificulties{#blank#}6{#/blank#}. He was also the first in his group to reach the peak (顶峰）

Standing at the top of the mountain, Li finally{#blank#}7{#/blank#} one of his greatest dreams. As he wrote in his diary, "I thought I woud fail, but I'm so{#blank#}8{#/blank#}I succeeded. " From this expeience, Li has developed a strong{#blank#}9{#/blank#} in mountain climbing. He also plans to climb another high mounain in Europe next year. 

Mountain climbing can not only help children exercise, but also{#blank#}10{#/blank#} them the spirit of never giving up. "It will greatly influence their future growth and development. " his father said. 

Lisa had always been overweight. She wanted to 1 weight (体重), not just because she wanted to look 2 and healthier, but also because it would make life easier. For example, it was 3 for Lisa to find ready-made clothes that would fit. She had to ask a tailor (裁缝) to make clothes that were 4 enough.
