Australians are different from Englishmen in some way. There is more visiting without an appointment(预约)in Australia than in England. All the same, you have to be careful about your timing.
A very close Indian friend talked to me once about how bad he felt when he visited his friends shortly before "Tea"(the evening meal, or dinner, in Australia). They sat and talked very politely. But clearly his friends wanted him to leave soon.
In Asia, of course, the problem would not arise: the family would ask their friends to have the evening meal with them. But this kind of thing does not come easily to Australians, so do not hope for it. Instead(相反), leave before dinner. Australians give visitors a hug, or even a kiss, but they don't give visitors a drink when they come for a visit, unlike many Asian countries.
If you come from a country where home help is popular, you should remember that this is usually not true in Australia. So it would be a good idea to help clear the table and wash up when you finish dinner at a friend's place. The hostess(女主人)will certainly thank you for what you do.

Ear Cleaning Lesson So you' re watching TV now. Suddenly, your ea r starts to feel a little bit uncomfortable. After you dig your little finger around in your ear for a while, you dig out a little brown ball. That's earwax.
Earwax is produced in your inner ear canal(管, 道). The dead skin cells(皮 肤 细 胞 ) and oils in the canal mix together to form these little brown balls. They help keep the skin in our ears healthy and slightly wet, protecting the ear canal.
However, the helpful earwax can sometimes make our ears uncomfortable. At that point, should we try to get it out? Never use cotton swabs! Millions of people use cotton swabs to clean their ears. Well, in fact, while you may be able to get a little bit of the earwax out, you're probably just pushing more of it back in. And the inner end of ear canal can be filled with earwax. Even worse, the car drum may also be hurt because of cotton swabs. In daily lives, if you really want to, you can clean your outer cars with a little soap, water and a washcloth. And most of the time, there's no need to clean ear canals. The ear canal can naturally push out extra (额外) earwax. When you run, bathe or do other things, the extra earwax will fall out. So the best way to get the extra earwax out of our ears is— just to leave it alone.

A sock is a wonderful thing. It can warm a foot. That's for sure. Better yet, it can be made into different creatures. Let's see how. ① Put your hand into a sock. Your fingers and thumb are in the "toe" part. The back of your wrist is in the "heel" part. ② Make a slit(切口) in the sock between your thumb and fingers for your puppet's mouth. ③ Cut two ovals(椭圆形), one of poster board and one of fabric(织物). ④ Stick the fabric oval to the poster board oval with white glue. ⑤ Once the glue is dried, fold them in half. ⑥ Sew(缝) the folded oval into your sock. Now, your puppet can talk. What your puppet becomes depends on you. Think of how to make eyes, hair, ears, hats, beards, noses, ties, shirts and dressers for your puppet. |
