Several years ago, I spent most of my time at a mental hospital (精神病院) in our town. I found much joy there. At first it was a little scary to be there, but I stayed on, because I had a reason for doing this.

I volunteered in a locked-up (封闭的) environment. To my surprise, I found that a friend of my parents' was a patient in this hospital. I knew, when I was a baby, this woman wanted to keep me because she had no children. I looked after this woman and showed my old photos to her. Finally, she was able to remember some old things, and she said to me one day, "Dear, you should not come here." But I wanted to bring something happy into this woman's life. I learned that because she had no family, she couldn't leave here and go home. So I brought her to my home twice and I still remembered the happy smile on her face.

I have never forgotten this volunteering experience. This woman later passed    away. I can't see her anymore, but I'm happy that I have done something to make a difference in another person's life.

World Bee Day falls on May 20 every year. And we have been celebrating this day {#blank#}1{#/blank#} 2018. This day reminds the importance of bees and beekeeping. Bees play a role in keeping people and the planet healthy. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} few people know how helpful these little insects are. Bees pollinate（为……授粉）about 75 percent of the world's crops. The insects help to keep the balance between life forms and their environment. 

However, scientists say there {#blank#}3{#/blank#} more challenges for bees today. They include climate change, illness and habitat（栖息地） loss. According to the United Nations, about one million bee species are dying out. 

What can we do to {#blank#}4{#/blank#} bees then? Well, you don't have to be a beekeeper to protect them. Here are some easy choices. You can grow more bee-friendly {#blank#}5{#/blank#} and other plants. Don't cut the grass or use pesticides（杀虫剂） too often. Instead, let the plants grow wild. This way, you can make a more bee-friendly environment! 

Everyone has a family name. My name is Jane Armstrong. Armstrong is my family name. What does Armstrong mean（意思是）？Does it mean my arms are strong（强壮的）？But I am a slim    girl. I don't have strong arms. My best friend is Lucy Long. Is she a tall girl？No，she isn't. She is short. But she has long hair. 

Some family names come from jobs. My cousin's name is James Cook. Does it mean he can cook？No, it doesn't. And he doesn't like cooking . He only likes eating nice food. And he likes the TV show A Bite of China（《舌尖上的中国》），because it is all about nice food. Some people get family names from places. Ann Hill is my classmate. Is there a hill near her home？Yes, there is one hill behind her home. But her uncle, Tom Hill, lives 20 km from a hill. 

Look! This is my uncle's{#blank#}1{#/blank#}. It is big and {#blank#}2{#/blank#}. There are many {#blank#}3{#/blank#} on it. There {#blank#}4{#/blank#} ten pigs. They are very cute. They're eating vegetables. There are two {#blank#}5{#/blank#}. They are very clever. They' re eating meat( 肉). The two dogs can help a lot. Look at the cows there. How many? Oh, {#blank#}6{#/blank#} cows! They are {#blank#}7{#/blank#} and white. They're eating grass. They are very fat. Look! Twelve hens. They're eating rice. The rabbits are {#blank#}8{#/blank#} carrots. Look there! The {#blank#}9{#/blank#} are swimming in the lake. {#blank#}10{#/blank#} to my uncle's farm.

Our teacher did a survey about what his students did during the summer holidays in class, and here are their answers to the questions.

 We' ve talked about snails(蜗牛) and their slow move. But much of the time snails don't move at all. They' re in their shells - - - sleeping.

 Hot sun will dry out a snail's body. So at the least sign of hot sun, a snail draws its body into its shell and closes the opening with a thin cover. Then it goes to sleep. A snail will die in a heavy rain. So whenever it rains, it goes inside its shell house and goes to sleep. A snail can sleep for as long as it needs to. It can take a short sleep. Or it can sleep for days at a time. And it spends all the winter months in its shell, asleep.

 In spring the snail wakes up. Its body, about three inches long, comes out of from the shell. When hungry, the snail looks for food. It can' t see very well. Its eyes, at the ends of the top feelers are very weak. But its sense of smell is very strong. It helps the snail to the new greens. Then the snail's little mouth goes to work.

A snail's mouth is no longer than the point of a pin(针). Yet it has 256,000 teeth! The teeth are so small that you can't see them. But they do their work.. If you put a snail in a hard paper box, it will eat its way out. And if a snail wears out its teeth, it will grow new ones.

 Mostly, a snail looks for food at night. But on cloudy days it eats in the daytime. It eats all day long. A snail can go on eating for hours and never feel full.
