Korean Vacation

Last Monday, Soobin got a surprise text message from Klara. She is Soobin's German online friend. She was visiting Seoul（首尔）with her family!

Soobin replied. Soobin waited for Klara's reply and thought of things to do. 

Soobin was a little disappointed. She was also thinking of folk villages and pansori. Klara texted again. 

Soobin smiled. She was about to suggest Insadong. The class was fun. 

At lunch, Soobin suggested a bulgogi restaurant. 

"I'll introduce you to Korean food!"

"Thanks, but we already have plans to eat Buddhist（佛教）temple（寺）food," Klara said. "And we have bulgogi restaurants at home. "

Soobin laughed. "I guess they're introducing themselves to Korean culture," she thought. 

Jessica stopped to look at the poster in the hallway (走廊) at school. There was a competition from CNSA, one lucky student would have the chance to do his or her experiment in space. But it was just in four weeks, Jessica felt worried and she didn't even get an idea for the project.

Jessica had a biology class next period, and she stayed for a while to talk to her biology teacher, Ms. Li.

"Do you have any idea what I can do for the competition, Ms. Li?" Ms. Li looked at Jessica thoughtfully. "Well, Jessica, I can't tell you exactly what to do, but maybe you could think of an experiment that will be good for people's health. Many plants in China are used in medical treatments. You could consider doing an experiment using one of them." Answered Ms. Li. Jessica smiled and said, "Thank you, Ms. Li, you've given me a seed (种子) of a thought!" Jessica walked away and headed straight to the library. She asked the librarian to help her find books about plant science. After looking through many books, her eyes were drawn to the picture of foxglove (毛地黄), a plant which was in her grandparents' garden.

Then, Jessica did further reading about this plant. She found that it was often used to treat the irregular heartbeats. She was excited about her discovery and believed that her experiment would find out if foxglove would grow more rapidly in space. In the next few weeks, Jessica designed an experiment that tested how different light, soil and water can affect the growth of foxglove plants. A week before the competition, Jessica completed her project, made a few changes her teacher suggested and mailed it to CNSA.

A break one day, Jessica told Ms. Li, "My work is done. The next step is...space!"

Helen is my friend from London. She always tells me that London is a{#blank#}1{#/blank#}（绝妙的）place. And she believes {#blank#}2{#/blank#}（每人）will enjoy themselves there. There are lots of tall {#blank#}3{#/blank#}（建筑物）. And she is{#blank#}4{#/blank#}（外向的）and she is interested in travelling. She travels with her parents at{#blank#}5{#/blank#}（至少）twice a month. She believes that travelling is an important part in her life. It is{#blank#}6{#/blank#}（健康的）for body and mind. Of all the places she has visited, she likes New York best, because it is both modern and{#blank#}7{#/blank#}（有名的）. She was told that China is a large country with a long history. She is interested in Chinese {#blank#}8{#/blank#}（文化）. This July, her family {#blank#}9{#/blank#}（计划）to come to China. I'm very happy they will first come to my city. They will stay here for two days. So we can{#blank#}10{#/blank#}（分享）many things together.

Writing a story can be a fun and creative way to express your ideas and imagination(想象). But how do you go from a white page to a good story? Here are some tips to help you get started. 

Choosing a Topic

 The first step in writing a story is choosing a topic. Think about what you enjoy reading or what interests you. It could be adventure, fantasy, detective, romance tale, or myth. 

Understanding the Story Mountain

 The Story Mountain is a visual tool that helps you organize(组织) your story:

· Background(Introduction):

 This is where you introduce your main characters, setting, and any background information that's important for the reader to know. It sets the stage for the rest of the story and it should be written according to the topic. 

· Rising Action:

 This is the part where the story starts to move forward. Things happen and lead to conflicts(争执) or problems for your characters. It's important to create tension(紧张气氛) and keep the readers on their toes. 

· Climax(高潮):

 This is the most exciting part of the story. It's the turning point where the main conflict reaches its highest point. Often, this is where the biggest revelation(内情) or twists happens. 

· Falling Action:

 After the climax, the tension starts to lighten. This is where the characters face the outcome of the climax and start to move towards solving the main problem. 

· Resolution: This is the end of the story. It's where all the loose ends are tied up, and the main problem is resolved(解决). The resolution gives the reader a sense of closure and satisfaction(满足). 

Creating Characters

 Your characters are the heart of your story. You' ll need at least one main character and some other characters around. Sometimes, bad characters are important to the story too. Take time to develop them. Give them names, personalities, backgrounds, and goals. Think about how they would react to different situations. Conflict between characters can drive the story forward and keep it interesting. 

 With your topic, structure, and characters in place, it's time to start writing. And after finishing the draft(草稿), you should check and read it for many times to make it successful. 

Every child has a hobby. My hobby is studying the night sky. But some friends of mine have special hobbies.
