Mum and Dad have always tried their best to make sure I grow up happily, and I wanted to do something for them. I decided to help them to wash the dishes. But I didn't want to do it in a simple way. I was going to be the best washerup(洗盘子的人) in the world!

At first, I found it was not easy to be the best washer­up. Sometimes, a plate would fall from my hands and break on the floor. Mum had to come to help me and it made me feel ashamed(羞愧的). Soon I had another problem. I couldn't get those bowls and plates as clean as I wanted. But I wasn't going to stop. After trying more than five bottles of washingup liquid(洗洁精), I finally found the best one that was just right for the job. After weeks of practice, I finally became what I wanted to be—the best washerup in the world. Looking at the shining plates, glasses and bowls, I felt so proud.

And then one day, I came home from school, thinking about washing up all the plates after dinner, but to my surprise, a big new machine was standing in the middle of the kitchen—a dishwasher(洗碗机)!

Paper, also called zhi, was a Chinese invention. About 2,000 years ago, Chinese people {#blank#}1{#/blank#} paper-making (造纸). At that time, zhi was made {#blank#}2{#/blank#} silk and was very expensive. Only the emperor and rich people could afford to use {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. About 1,900 years ago, Cai Lun improved the paper-making {#blank#}4{#/blank#}. He made cheap zhi out of tree bark and old cloth.

The improvement in paper-making {#blank#}5{#/blank#} zhi far and wide, and many different kinds of zhi were made by Chinese people. Xuan paper, a type of high-quality rice paper, can show the charm (魅力) of {#blank#}6{#/blank#} Chinese painting and calligraphy best. Later, Chinese zhi spread to the West through the Silk Road. It became one of the {#blank#}7{#/blank#} popular inventions in the world. With zhi, the cost of producing books became more affordable, {#blank#}8{#/blank#} knowledge could be shared more widely. Chinese zhi now is {#blank#}9{#/blank#} used around the world. Humans are full of infinite wisdom. No one knows {#blank#}10{#/blank#} the future will be like.

 Alice is a 6- year- old girl. She likes drawing(画画) very much and she draws every day.

 One day, after the rain(雨), she goes out(出去) with her father and her dog Coco." Wow, what's that?" she asks.

" It's a rainbow. How many colors can you see, my dear?" asks her father.

" Er… one, two, three… seven. Seven colors. It looks so nice."

 Then they go home."I want to draw a rainbow, Dad, but I don't have orange , green or purple," Alice says to her father.

" That's easy. You know what? We have the three colors. Let me help you. Mix(混合) red and yellow, and we can get orange. Mix yellow and blue, and we can get green. Blue and red can make purple."

" Wow, that's interesting! I have seven colors now. I can draw a rainbow. Thanks, Dad!" Alice draws a great rainbow. She is so happy!

My name is Angela. I'm an 8-year- old English girl. All my family like me, especially(尤其) my grandpa. And of all my family, I love my grandpa best. 

One morning, I was playing in our house. Then I saw my grandpa's hat. It was blue and looked very old. "Grandpa doesn't like this ugly hat,"I thought. "I can make it look nice. "So I painted his hat red. When the work finished, my mother saw it and said to me,"Your grandpa must be mad. You made his hat a mess(脏乱). "I was not really sure about it. 

But that afternoon, my grandpa came home and knew this. "My dear Angela, you're so creative(有创造力的),"he laughed and said. "That's a nice hat and I like it. I think my friends will like it, too. "

Not all adults can treat(对待) their small boys or girls like my grandpa. Thanks, Grandpa! You are the best in my heart. 

 Have you experienced heavy rain or storms? What was the situation(情况) like? How did you feel?

 Once, there were two women who lived in the same village. They used to grow the same plants in their own gardens. One woman called Lisa was hard-working and took care of her plants every day. The other woman, named Rebecca, didn't do quite as much. She just let her plants grow however they wanted. 

 One evening, there was a big storm with heavy rain. The destruction(毁坏) of many plants was serious. 

 The next morning, when Lisa woke up, she found that all of her plants fell down to the ground because of the rain. However, when she got to Rebecca's garden, she saw that all of the plants were still standing in the garden. Rebecca's plants lived through the storm. 

 How did this happen? The plants of the relaxed woman learned to do things on their own from the very beginning. They grew deeper roots(根) and made places for themselves in the soil(土壤). They could stand up strong on their own, even during a storm. Lisa found out that since she did everything for her plants, they never learned to live through any difficulties. 

 It is the same for us. Sooner or later, you have to let go and become independent. If you just let others do everything for you, you' ll never learn to do things on your own.
