Emilyand Alex were happy when their family moved to a house with a very big garden. Theycould climb up trees, grow flowers and even play badminton. They liked to watchthe birds flying among the trees in the garden. They even started to put food outto attract（吸引）more birds.

    Everythingwas fine for a few days until one afternoon there was a strange bumping noise ona window. Emily went outside and found a small bird dead on the grass. Its neckseemed to be broken.

    "Itmust have flown into the window," Alex said when his sister Emily called himto have a look. "Ah, yes, look here. You can see the mark where it hit thewindow. There are a couple of tiny feathers stuck(粘贴) on the window."

    "Poorthing!" Emily said.

    Duringthe next month, another five birds died in the same way. "Why would they flyto the windows?" they wondered. Finally they found out the truth. When thebirds were flying, they couldn't see into the rooms. All they saw was the reflection(反射) of the garden. They thought that they were flying into trees becausethey saw trees reflected by the window.

    "Somethinghas to be done to save the birds." the parents decided.

    At first,he family tried keeping curtains（窗帘）across the windows, but thismade the room dark. Then they bought some strong black paper and cut out the shapeof ahawk. They made six hawks—one for each window. They stuck the hawks to the windows. They lookedpretty and did not keep out much light. When the birds saw the hawks, they wouldfly away.

    Afterthat, there were no more dead birds. The family were much happier.

What a difference a day makes！My father and I {#blank#}1{#/blank#} to go to Penang Hill today. We wanted to walk up to the top, but then it started raining a little so we decided to take the train. We waited over an hour {#blank#}2{#/blank#} the train because there were too many people. When we got to the top, it was rainingreally {#blank#}3{#/blank#} . We didn't have an umbrella {#blank#}4{#/blank#} we were wet and cold. It was terrible！And because of the bad weather, we couldn't see {#blank#}5{#/blank#} below. My father didn't bring {#blank#}6{#/blank#} money, so we only had one bowl of rice and some fish. The food tasted great because I was so hungry！

We are happy to say that there's a trip to Apple Farm for all the children in Class 2. The trip is on Wednesday. On this trip, your children learn about farm life and have great fun in the open air (野外). 

There are lots of animals on the farm. In the morning, the children can feed (喂) the hens and the ducks. They can also see the cows, and sheep. The farmer, Mr. James, has a tractor(拖拉机). At about 2 o'clock, the children can take a ride (搭乘). This is always very popular. 

We are traveling by school bus. The bus goes at 9 o'clock, so please don't be late. Please bring lunch boxes and drinks. Also bring boots, as the farm can be muddy (泥泞的). The sun is big, so bring a sun hat, too. We will be back to school at about 4:00 p.m.

Russ Miller,36, from Ohio, was first diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis(类风湿性关节炎) when he was just 26, making it progressively difficult for him to do everyday tasks.

"My hands are deformed(畸形的). I can't bend them like others. Recently my thumb has stopped working," said Miller in a letter to a company. "I can no longer use normal computer keyboards and it's hard for me to even hold a pen anymore."

 Russ' condition resulted in him living on the streets in Florid for 4 years, but in 2018, he started trying to turn his life around. "I was trying to get help and get myself out of my situation. I had a phone, but I struggled to type on keyboards. So I started looking for alternative smartphone keyboards that might enable me to type again. I found the keyboard app Typewise by accident."

 Russ thinks that Typewise smartphone keyboard enables him to get his life back by allowing him to communicate with people, and therefore get help, get an apartment and even get a job. "I am able to communicate a lot better than talking, because my voice is kind of monotone(单调的) so people don't understand me very well. And because I was able to start typing on my phone again, I was able to use social media to reach out to an organisation that helps people with disabilities." It's the hexagonal (六边形的) layout of the keyboard that Russ finds a whole lot easier. "I can move my fingers around and not mess up as often."

"Now I have a part-time job where I take care of dogs and cats on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I can't work full time, because of my physical issues but at least I have something to do and something to look forward to." Russ said.

The company making the smartphone app had been unaware that their unique keyboard design could help people with disabilities until they got Russ' letter.

 Zheng Qinwen, 21, won China's first Olympic gold medal in the tennis singles at the Paris Olympics on Aug 3rd. 

"Nothing can describe my feeling right now. It's unreal. I' ve always been hoping to get a medal for China. Finally, I made it. " Zheng said after she won. 

 From 2020 to 2024, Zheng's world ranking(排名) jumped from over 600 to No. 7. Years of competitions taught her to play with patience and control her energy in matches. Her performance has won her the title of"Queen Wen" among fans. 

"I love my fans for giving me this title, honestly, because it fits my character well. You need to show yourself as a queen of the court, because you need this energy, this power to show that you are the best. " Zheng told China Daily. 

Playing for China at the Olympics gave Zheng power. She made her way to success after getting through tiring matches that went on for three hours. 

"What I can be sure is that I'm going to fight until the last moment, because I'm not only playing for myself. I'm playing for my country. " Zheng told China Daily. 

 This great success is just the start of a new journey for Zheng. Just a few days after her Olympic victory, she took part in the Cincinnati Open but lost to a Russian player Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova ina third-round match. 

"I was proud to win the Olympic gold medal, but it's time to forget it and start over again. If I think too much about my past success, I won't play my next match well. " Zheng told CCTV.
