The boy wants to go out to fly a kite. But his father does not agree{#blank#}1{#/blank#}him because the rain is coming. So he asks his mom whether he can fly the kite indoors. His mom doesn't agree. The boy is sad. And then he asks whether he can watch TV for a while. Luckily, his mom finally agrees {#blank#}2{#/blank#}the idea.

It's a fine Saturday. Emily and her mother want to go to the Great Wall. They are taking the 1 to get there now. An old man is on the bus. He has no seat (座位) to sit in. Emily asks him to sit in her seat. The old man 2 Emily very much. There are two foreigners (外国人) on the bus. They want to go to the Great Wall, too. But they can't 3 Chinese. So Emily talks with them in English. She says that Beijing is a big city 4 a long history. Emily also tells some stories about the Great Wall to them. They think these stories are so 5 that they want to visit other places of interest in China. 

Zhou Yichen, 11, is a primary school st udent from Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province. In July, he got to the {#blank#}1{#/blank#} of Mount Elbrus. The mountain in Russia（俄罗斯） is 5,642 meters high. And it's the highest mountain in Europe（欧洲）.

The boy climbed（攀爬） the mountain with his father in five hours. "It was difficult. I thought I would fail（失败）, but I made it. I'm so {#blank#}2{#/blank#}," Yichen said.

Zhou Shuangliu, Yichen's father, is an outdoor lover（户外爱好者）. He climbed Mount Qomolangma in May. Together, they got to the top of the Siguniang Mountain in Sichuan Province twice - when Yichen was 9 and 10 years old. To prepare（准备） for their latest trip, Yichen ran 5 kilometers twice a week and {#blank#}3{#/blank#} every week.

"In the past, my son often played games when holding a phone. I told him that he could use the phone {#blank#}4{#/blank#}, because one day he will need it for climbing in other countries. And he really started learning English on his phone," says Zhou Shuangliu.

Yichen developed（培养） a {#blank#}5{#/blank#} interest in mountain climbing from his Russian experience（经历）. He hopes to get to the top of the 6,178 - meter Yuzhu Peak in Qinghai Province next summer.

My name is Wang Lin and my English name is Linda. I am 13 years old and I 1 No. 1Middle School of my city. I usually 2 at 7 a. m. in the morning. I have breakfast at home, but I have 3 at school. My school is close to my home, so I have to go to school4

We have eight classes every day. I 5 all the classes, because my teachers can make the classes interesting. My  favourite6 is English, so I go to the English Corner every week. After class, I always 7 with my friends. We play basketball, volleyball, table tennis and so on. 

I 8 my home at about 5:30 in the afternoon. When my parents prepare our dinner, I usually practise playing 9 guitar to have some fun. I also love to read some books 10 sleep. I usually go to bed at about 9:30 p. m. 

Eric is my cousin. He is1 14-year-old middle school student. He is different from other children in many ways. Though most kids like to watch cartoons, he never watches 2 . He thinks cartoons are meaningless. He likes to watch educational TV shows. For example, he likes watching documentaries(纪录片). He says he can 3 learn about different cultures of different countries from them. He likes to watch the news, too. "It can tell me what is happening 4 the world, " he says. And he tells me that the news is 5 than game shows. He can't stand game shows. 

Eric doesn't expect vacations. He likes having 6 . He hopes he can go to school every day, 7 he has a lot of questions to ask and his teachers are always ready to give him the answers. 8 kind they are!

Eric's favorite place is the library. He always 9 there early. In his free time, he enjoys reading books about famous people. He wants 10 a successful person one day. He plans to work hard for it. 

One winter morning after breakfast, I went to the garden and was very surprised. I saw my father's big footprints in the snow. I knew those footprints well. I didn't know what to do—I need help. 

When I got back to my room, I opened the door. And there was my father, sitting on my bed!

The man sitting on my bed was about fifty and had long, dirty black hair and a black beard(胡须)—he was my father. His clothes were very old and dirty, and his face was terribly white and thin. His shoes had holes in them and his hat did, too. He looked terrible. 

" I see you're wearing nice new clothes, " he said, looking at me. 

" Widow Douglas bought them for me, " I said. 

" And look at this nice bed and soft blankets(毛毯), and I have to sleep with the pigs!" he said. " I know that she's sending you to school, and you probably think you're better than your father, don't you?"

" Maybe I do and maybe I don't, " I answered without thinking. 

" Remember, Huck, I'm your father, not that Widow Douglas, " he cried, looking at me angrily. " Now I'm here and you're my son again, and sons do what their fathers tell them. I've never been to school and your mother couldn't read or write when she died. You don't need to learn anything. I don't want to see you near a school! Is that clear?" He saw a book near my bed and threw it across the room. 

I was really afraid and said, " Yes, father. "

I couldn't look at him. He got up and said, " I know Judge Thatcher has your money. It's my money now because I'm your father. " He got up from the bed and left. I knew that he was going to get drunk(喝醉酒的). 

The next morning he was drunk and he went to Judge Thatcher's house. He tried in every way to get my $ 6, 000 but Judge didn't give it to him. Judge Thatcher wasn't afraid of my father and that made me happy.
